  • What standard of units are you using here? When I got my results 4 days ago, it said it was 19nmol/L which converts to about 7ng/ml... (we're in winter here still)

  • @jamesbomb0069

    Normal in nmol/L is 50-140

    Optimal is probably 115-128 nmol.

So you are extremely low in vitamin D.

I recommend taking 5000-6000 IU of vitamin D daily for 6-8 weeks and then retesting.

There is a small subset of people who have viral or Lyme disease issues who may not benefit from high doses like this.

  • @InnovativeHealing -- Can you explain why patients with Lyme or viral infections wouldn't benefit from D supplementation? Is it being confiscated by the pathogen? Does the pathogen make the D unabsorbable? How does the patient get enough D, then? Or do they never obtain satisfactory levels? Would sublingual vit D work better for those people?

Thank you, in advance. And thanks for the video; it was easy to understand for laymen.

  • Dra,

Eres tan querida y antenciosa ! Gracias por toda esta informacion tan útil para todos .

  • We use 4000 IU daily, so at 2000 you may not be increasing your level at all. I you were my client and you had vitamin D levels of 14, I would recommend 10,000 IU daily for 6-8 weeks and then recheck. I'd also advise spending time in the sun without burning without sunscreen.

  • How much is consider as over dosage for Vitamin D3? Overdo of anything could be harmful than benefit. I am taking vitamin D3 from many fish oil and multi vitamins, 1000 IU each. Thanks

  • I have -14 Vitamin D level result and my doctor advised me to take 2,000 IU of Vitamin D3 daily. Thnx for this video and it opens my mind how important Vit D in our body that we have forgotten for so many years...

  • Hi Liz! if I wear a 30 spf sunscreen and sit out in the sun for 30 minutes, about how much vitamin D would I get. I like to protect my skin, so I never go out in the sun without protection. Please let me know.

This was an amazing video. Thank you :)

  • my vitamin d level was very low only 10 i was feeling awful i would spend most of my time in bed. i was fatigued, moody, joint pain with horrible tmj symptoms. Since taking vitamin d i no longer have tmj flare-ups, it has completly cleared 100%. i think anyone with tmj should have thier vitamin d level checked. I HAVE NEVER FELT BETTER!

  • I came down with an Exacerbation that only lasted for three days I had a cause of steroids, and am fine now Ive had MS 15 years, just before I had the flair-up I'd had a HD25 test, it was 229! but all other levels like Calcium are all fine and so am I, Thanks! my last flair-up was a 10, this one was a 2 (or less) I do not take MS Drugs and never did!

    Thanks!

  • @gekiryudojo By most standards levels of 229 are way too high; yet there is some evidence that some people benefit from having such high levels. I would advise monitoring this with your physician and also seeing where you actually feel best. How you feel is often the best measure of what your levels should be.

  • Being disabled & rarely getting out, I figured my vit.D3 levels had to be as low as you can get. After some research, I took 34,000iu a day for 17 days & my fibromyalgia pain was gone. I lowered intake to 8,000iu a day for 19 days & pain returned. I did 40,000iu a day for 10 days & pain was gone in 3 days. It's been almost 4 months now since I started & am now doing about 10,000iu day & pain free. I've had FM for 10 years.

  • @cindyaustx Dear Cindy,

Congratulations on this. Do monitor your vitamin D levels. Optimal is probably between 60-100 ng/ml but we don't really know. Really high levels can cause their own problems, so MONITOR. typically once you are where you want to be, 200-5000 IU will keep you there. best, Liz

  • @cindyaustx Dear Cindy,

Congratulations!!! Self-care is amazing isn't it?

  • I hate sunlight, I curse the sun!! TAKE D3 SUPPLEMENTS!

  • I posted earlier 2 months ago i was just starting to take 10'000iu a day I now have been taking 20,000iu a day for the last 2 months walked to town for the first time in 10 months after researching all this

I have had RR MS for 15 years may 2009 I could not walk 15 feet, I now 1 year later can walk 5 miles, had a Hd25 test and waiting for results, a lot more energy and feel great! will keep you posted

  • @gekiryudojo Thanks for staying in touch. This is terrific. Your last post indicated that your levels had gone way too high..... Do also get your vitamin A levels checked, and if possible vitamin K and E as well. The fat soluble vitamins work together. Too much of one or an auto-immune issue can push them all out of whack. Liz

  • very very great clip, very informative and motivating! Thank you!

  • excellent

  • excellent

  • very informative video!!

  • i was directed here by youtube because of another video i watched. I was thinking, if she says 10 mg I'll know she doesn't know what she's talking about.

This video was simply wonderful. And, you referenced the stuff I have read also. I was unpleasantly surprised about the African American levels of vitamin D. I concentrate on us, and am worried about our health.

  • This is THE BEST Vitamin D video I have seen. Thanks for doing such a GREAT job. You gave so much more information than other videos do.

  • THANK YOU!

  • @greatbydesign33 Thanks!

  • Hey i dont have any health insurance and haven't seen a doctor in years, How can I check my own vitamin levels?

  • There are ways you can check it yourself. You can purchase a kit from our office for $95. You can also order your own labs and pay for them through Quest or Lab Corp. You may also want to check out Life Extension for a kit, but you may have to be a member.

  • thankyou!

  • Can anybody tell me the title of the song in the beginning of the video?? Thanks!!!!! :)

  • Yes, it is a custom made intro done for us by Bruce Holms. His website is located in the credits at the end of the video. Thank you!

  • I have MS and have been taking 500iu of vitamin D per day and have been getting well starting tomorrow 29th jan 2010 I with be taking 10,000iu a day of vitamin D3

  • Let us know how u get on on the 10000 does of Vit D3

  • @Irishgeraldine I went to to 1000iu a day, then 25.000 a day for three weeks and then on to 20K iu a day, which I am staying on until my HD25 is right, then I will maintain it with 10.000iu a day, I feel great have a lot more energy, everyone around me has had colds but I've not this year. I can now walk 5 miles stay up all day and well have not been ill! even my neurologist said keep on with it! Meds? I'm not on any! just D3! had RR MS 15 years

  • @gekiryudojo - happy to hear that, Im a nurse and actually heard it can help MS. Hope you continue to improve.

  • this is so true, great video.

  • That is a great reminder to stock up on vitamins. Codex Alimentarius starts on Dec.31. The culmination of more than 30 years of planning by the organizations of world power to deprive people of adequate nutrition in order to reduce the world's population with multiple and swift pandemics. Have a nice day people

  • I'm taking 5,000ug daily feel absolutely great. Natural and herbal remedies are true healers. Peace brothers and sisters

  • That is great! Peace to you.

  • got tested today at 128ng/ml and I feel much better than 2 months ago when I was tested at 27ng/ml

  • @gledalac1979 Just don't go higher than that. Too much vitamin D is as bad as too little vitamin D. There's controversy and we don't know exactly what's the right level, but we think between 60-100 ng/ml. Everything has the right balance point.

  • google codex alimentarius!!!

    serious stuff!!!

  • Brilliant!!!

  • love Vitamin D

  • That was very informative thanks!

  • I have been studying the Cannell and Holick work, and just started taking 5,000 iu's of Vit D3 (plus Calcium, Magnesium, and Omega-3) each day due to concerns with H1N1. Are there reported concerns with the ingested version of D3 via tablet supplement? Is the sunlamp preferred over tablets in the winter?

  • First, you should have your vitamin D levels checked to see where you are. Supplements are fine. If you would like to try the sunlamp, Sperti has some good models. You should get retested every 5 weeks.

  • thank you. I would like to get my entire family tested (frequently) as we go through this Vit D therapy together, but it is cost-prohibitive to keep re-testing all of us so often. Do you know of any tests that are not so expensive but are accurate?

  • This is best done from a nutritionally oriented physician. It is very important that they order the correct test.

The advantage of having your medical or chiropractic physician perform the test is that it will usually be covered by your medical insurance.

  • I didn't even think to go the standard route. Thanks, I will look into it!

  • @fabmd8 Sorry for the delay in responding to you. This isn't a place that I typiclaly keep track of. We know that there is absolutely NO toxicity from use of sunlamps or being in sunshine. Some people have gone gung ho with vitamin D supplements and eventually got too much. For most of us taking 2000-4000 IU daily will be safe, but I do like to have people check vitamin D levels to see what they are doing. We're looking for balance.

  • Theorectically then ~ if we are headng into winter and colds, flu and H1N1 are going to spike....Vitamin D could reduce the number of sick and spread of the virus. This could prevent medical resources from being overloaded since people will likely have regular flu or a cold and go to a hospital thinking it's H1N1. I've been taking vitamin D3 since I saw Dr. Cannells videos and did my own research. Thanks for the video...you've likely got nearly 8 thousand people who will do so also.

  • hello from ireland. i am seeing a lot of evidence that vit d3 is good.. what i cannot find out is what is 10,000 units.. it how many spoonfulls of cod liver oil do i have to take to make sure there is 10000 units in there?. thanks for making this video.

  • I assume you have been tested by your doctor to determine your low levels. If your doctor has recommended you take 10,000 units of Vitamin D you should do this for 6 weeks and follow the instructions on the label of the cod liver oil or supplement. After 6 weeks, have your levels tested again to determine if you need to stay at such a high level of Vitamin D. If you have questions, follow up with your doctor.

  • I have been taking 10,000 iu daily for a year and my blood level is only 45, while most benefits kick in at 75nM/l. (There is no toxicity with 25OHD levels below 200nM/L.) But use fish oil, not cod liver oil for your D levels because cod liver oil alone would raise your Vitamin A intake to toxic levels. You can use cod liver oil for your Omega 3s, to provide 1 gram of DHA, but after that use liquid D3 supplements to get up to an appropriate level..

  • Don't take cod liver oil to get 10,000 units of Vitamin D. The Vitamin A levels in that amount is too high. You will get 400 to 500 iu of D per tablespoon (but 1000 of A). D toxicity isn't an issue but A toxicity is.

Also the level of D in cod liver oil is lower due to new manufacturing. I take cod liver oil for the EFAs, but supplement with 10,000 iu of D3.

  • This is very good advice, I've read up a lot on Vit D and this is definitely the most current research results on the subject.

  • Hi Danny!

Vitamin D3 can absolutely help you feel better. It has been shown to help with insulin resistance and blood sugar control.

So not only may it help with your diabetes, it can also help your bones and mental outlook.

    Thank you.

    In health!

  • Hi Dr. I'm danny, I have a question, can Vitamin d3 help me to have a better health if I already have diabetis?

and thanks for the video the info its very helpful .

  • I found out last week I have a severe Vit D Deficiency.

I had no idea I had it. My Dr prescribed 50000IU per week to start with

  • Yes thats good, get a book

    "Nutrition and Degenerative diseases"

    Will explain all . . . .

  • Normally I've always managed to fit time in to get some sun. Recently then I found myself caught up in watching the election along with some other stuff going on and now realized that through these past three months I've spent a minimal amount outdoors and all my muscles are aching or having spasms. I purchased a 5000 IU D3 from NOW brands supplements and wondered how long it usually takes to see some results and feel more like yourself again and bring your levels back up?

  • You should have your levels retested in 6 weeks. If you have a sever deficiency it may take a couple of months to bring your levels back up to where they should be.

  • Thanks for all the info - had been getting muscle spasms and muscle cramps. Realized it was from not getting out enough during the day these last few weeks. Made me wonder how many people rush to the doctor for what I'd been feeling and wind up medicating for something as simple as getting outside and getting sun or taking a cod liver oil supplement which I plan to add now as well.

    Very informative - Thanks!

  • Thank you. It really is amazing to start looking at how many ways you can feel a lack of sunshine, the ways that your body interprets its needs and lets you know something isnt quiet right. There are more people than you know that wind up feeling poorly, and treating it with prescriptions. Just some simple sun shine and cod liver oil will do the trick, who would have guessed how easy that could be?

  • When you recommend a blood level of 45-70, are you referring to nanograms per milliliter or nanomoles per liter?

  • It's nanograms per ml. Thanks for asking.

  • What foods have Vitamin D so I can eat?

  • Egg yolk, salmon, sardines.

  • The situation in Scotland is extremely dire! You can't make Vit D for over 8 months a year! I need at least 6000ius daily year around.

  • thank u for the video.

  • Who knew that Vitamin D was so important. Thanks for the great video!

  • Could you please clarify - 4 to 6 weeks or 46 weeks? (doctor's Vit D test).

    thanks

  • Recheck your vitamin levels in 4-6 Weeks.

  • recheck yoru vitamin levels in four to 6 weeks, any where in that time frame will give you the info.

  • The best supplemental form in which to take the sunshine vitamin is vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol), the same compound that's synthesized in your skin by ultraviolet radiation; a related compound, vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol), obtained mainly by synthesis from a plant precursor, is not recommended. Some of the leading authorities in this field are now recommending at least 2000 IU/day. It's important to note that there is no evidence of any harm from taking up to 10,000 IU/day in supplemental form.
