I am just a vegetarian because every "doing it for centuries" argument is invalid, because animals have never been treated this cruel. Back in the day you treated them well because you knew you would starve without them and wanted to have good food. Its sick to put a living creature in a cage thats just a little bit bigger then they are themselves.

Humans have a responsibility to use our intellect and wisdom and empathy to be a step up from our primate ancestors, because we can CHOOSE what we're gonna do next. Therefore, when we are cruel, it is premeditated, and so it's much worse than when a lion kills an antelope.
I do agree that the fixation on cute animals is crazy, but hey, that's what the majority of people care about, so they are more likely to donate to help those animals, and so more money goes into animal welfare overall.

Atheist: noun - a person who denies or disbelieves the existence of a supreme being or beings. How are these incompatible? I disbelieve yet hold that the ultimate truth in these cases is unknowable. There are also "gnostic" atheists. I'm just not one.

Now I've looked up some claimed definitions of "agnostic atheism", and the definition is right in the ballpark of "gnosticism". I disbelieve "god" because there is no evidence to support it, this makes me an "atheist" by the definition with regard to any concept of "god" which has ever been presented to me. I admit to having no knowledge (gnosis) or experience of god, this makes me an "agnostic" with regard to the general proposition of god. "Agnostic atheist" ... NOT an oxymoron. You ... just a moron.

On the part of making sense: disbelieving something due to lack of any evidence in either direction is the least sensible of all.

My disbelief stretches as far as the unliklihood of any given "god" proposition. Why do you insist on limiting the term agnostic to a belief in god? I can be agnostic about ANYTHING for which there is insufficient information to form a testable hypothesis. The term "atheist" on the other hand applies ONLY to "god(s)".

The thing he says about the dog licking the gun can be likened to human babies. They just don't know the pain it can cause. If you shot a dog's mother/father/brother/sister etc. and it died, then obviously the dog would be scared of any other gun he saw.

It is intriguing that there are only activists for CERTAIN animals while the others are completely ignored. It's better if you're an activist for restoring endangered species, so then you wouldn't be so contradicting. It is simpossible to break the food chain. All we can do as humans is to make sure it's well balanced. Now THAT'S a realistic approach.

I got about half way through and couldnt finish it. One of the good things about being human is having the ability to take care of others. He says we are better than animals but enforces stooping to their level by eating/killing them. How is it being better than them if you encourage doing exactly what they do?

They dont fear pain or death, they know what will hurt them, its not that they fear it. In one of my nursing classes (cant remember the part of your brain that Im talking about) we learned that there is one distinct part of our brain that animals do not have. And that part controls reasoning and fear and what not. So get off the tree and step back into the real world. I mean seriously, its scientifically proven that animals are inferior.

@PurrimofLeir We have very good evidence that dolphins, elephants, and great apes like chimpanzees are aware of their own existence to an appreciable degree. Further, chimps and elephants show signs of mourning dead friends and relatives. This doesn't mean that they're automatically equal to humans - it just means that the whole issue isn't as simple as Stine portrays it here.
