  • Big Jim Tyrer. He had plenty of happiness on the field but plenty of sadness off of it.

  • This game was also known for the infamous "kick to the clock" decision by Abner Haynes. During the coin toss before the first overtime, Dallas won the toss and Haynes told the referee "We'll kick to the clock" giving the Oilers first posession. It didn't matter as the Texans won the game.

Nine years later Hank Stram and his team would be playing another six quarter playoff game against the Dolphins on Christmas Day. They lost that game.

  • Do you have any more of this game?

  • Years later, Hank Stram would make it up to the broadcast booth at CBS...and his play-by-play partner would be none other than Jack Buck (whose son Joe just got through calling Super Bowl 45 as I type this out).

  • Classic. Gowdy, Buck, Stram, Dawson, Dallas Texans Uni's. Thanks for posting.

  • @djianh Amen.

  • If I remember my history right, the Texans left Dallas shortly after this game and became the Kansas City Chiefs.

  • @gfpirate Yupe they did.

  • i couldnt agree more dude.

  • The NFL network should do 30 minute videos of each the AFL championship games like they do for the Super Bowls.

  • @FAITHandLOGIC You mean those episodes of "America's Game"?

  • @neoprankster

    Yup. That's the one.

  • @FAITHandLOGIC great point.

  • @FAITHandLOGIC They should also do it for the NFL Championship Games which get no respect. I hate it

when people today say who how many Superbowls has you team won. It should be how many Superbowls

and Championships has your team won.
