I've never been there, but I've watched many vids about Auschwitz. That wall is called the "Wall of Death". Approximately 70,000 people were shot in front of that wall.

I've read that the "Black Wall" or "Wall of Death", was removed by Arthur Liebehenschel a camp Kommandant. It was built originally to protect the beautiful brickwork behind it from bullets. It was replaced after the war as a monument, that's why there are no bullet holes in the present wall. And yes, it's pretty crazy.

Much of the camp has been re-created, it is around 70 years old, and things, especially wood deteriorate. Not to mention the Nazi's destroyed things to try to hide their crime. The black wall, the standing cells, the Hoess gallows, the holes in the ceiling of Krema 1, have been modified.

What took place there is pretty obvious however. May the victims RIP.
