If i might add to my comment to part 1, i find the cut unfortunate between parts 1 and 2. This is in my opinion the most dense moment and right there you get torn out of it and have to search for part 2...maybe you can re-edit this.
and why dont we have Laycock conducting major orchestras in the US? we have to be stuck with the likes of Dudamel and Gilbert both of whom are nothing close to being a conductor. Im glad I discovered Laycock today who actually conducts unlike Dudamel who pretty much does everything BUT conduct, i dont know what he does.
The marcia funebre is my lifelong favorite piece and I've heard very many recordings of it. This performance is in the top quarter, which is no insult. The acoustics are very warm. That's often missing. I prefer slower rather than faster, but I think he went a little too far. Still, better than too fast. My biggest complaint would be that the seams showed too many times. Seamlessness is very important and the slower you play, the more obvious the seams are. It's closer to 5 stars than 4.
@ljlemer I too love this piece, and the Wiener does it well; however, Dudamel doing this this piece with the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela is even more phenominal. Deutschegrammaphon puts it out, "Promise of Music" Your library has it.

Tempo sounded dead on to me. Very close to the classic Karajan version. Fantastic stuff!

Part one has 36700 views and this part only 7700. Too bad for those 29000 who have missed the best, climactic part.

Thanks for posting this awe inspiring performance. The musicianship of the entire ensemble as well as the conductor is truly outstanding.
