@geonerd Only the lower part of the pylons were build on place. The deck and the upper part of the pylons were build on the mountain next to the bridge and then pushed (from right to left in the photo) onto the lower pylons. So what you see here is the deck not yet fully in place.
the whole time i was on that bride, IF i ever went on it i would be like " I don't wanna do this, I don't wanna do this!" Probably need a change of pants 3 or 4 times before the end.
There is no amount of money that would make me work on a bridge that high up. I don't even care if Megan Fox herself offered me multiple lays and $1,000,000,000 cash. Fuck. That. (P.S. Not a fan of Fox.)
@Ice1200000 ^^But you know, when you are on it, you don't really see the landscape and the void. This is very protected. I think this is more inpressing when you see the bridge (when you'r not on it) ;)
This can't have possibly been more cost effective than just building on the hills. Someone, somewhere just said "F*ck it, we'll build a bridge over the WHOLE DAMN VALLEY!
The Bridge is used to pass the valley below because there was too much traffic in the city of Millau. People had to leave the A75, go all the way through Millau to reach the other side. That's why they made the bridge to make a smoother traffic to the mid. Sea.
It is not World's highest bridge. The highest bridge is in Jammu, India which is about 359 meters above the ground over the river Chenab and that is a railway bridge
What is the point of buidling a bridge that high? Wouldn't it have been easier to build a road from one side to the other? Only make it so the road goes up and down each side of the valley. There's no way I'd drive across it because it looks too flimbsy and fraile (look at time frame 1:36)
@eddog6666 Sorry, that footbridge in Colorado is only 955 feet above the water. There is a road bridge in China though that is 1,550 feet above the river. Go to highestbridges(dot)com
The highest bridge in the World is the Siduhe Bridge in China - 1,550 feet (472m) from roadway to river. The Millau Viaduct here is only 910 feet (277m) from roadway to river. Siduhe's height makes it 425 feet (130m) above the tallest tower holding up the Millau Viaduct.
Engineered by Michel Virlogeux ( France ) and designed by Norman Foster ( GB ). Built by Eiffage ( French company --> Eiffel Tower ). I like the "says it all", it's funny. The concorde was a great partnership between France and GB. Actually GB prefers to suck balls of USA, it's a shame...
Areva ( french nuclear company, 1rst in the world ) will build all nuclear plants in GB. The contract is signed. And if you make a little effort with your rails ( hard work ), we'll can sell you few TGV, you'll enjoy the comfort of an high speed train...lol
Made in France. Says it all ( I'm ironic, of course ). Good night England.
Just wondering... why did they have to make it so high? was it really neccesary??? I wuld like to know the reason why this bridge is so high lol I don' t know nothing
@Haulero The valley that the bridge crosses over is quite deep, flanked on both sides by hills. Rather than have the highway snake down the sides of the valley and back up, the engineers decided to take the highway directly across the valley for a more streamlined approach.
Tubester4567, the road bed of the bridge is actually ABOVE the clouds. People can walk or drive along the bridge and look down at the clouds in the valley.
