  • I like how Norman is black and white :P

  • Gorgeous < great music, great era !

  • @EnglishStan it isn't on an album, came out in 1980 as a b-side to 'the earth dies screaming"

  • @fuckamericanidiot yeh its on the best of ub40 - volumes 1&2, track 5 disc 1.

  • @blsbutcha haha ok but that's not a proper album, it's just a compilation

  • what can i say ive been a fan since 79, they,ve been fantastic insperational totally amazing seen um 8 times yur gonna be missed lads, soarly missed and this tune is one of my favs

  • ojala puedira conocer esta banda es la mejor bando de todos los tiempos personalmente y esta cancion de las mejores varias generaciones crecen con esta musica nunca moriran ......

  • Thanks heru1966. The vid makes a lot more sense to me now in light of your comments.

  • I don't get the part about the obese family eating while watching tele.

  • It's actually a running theme through a few of their videos, I think when watched all together it may make more sence, I know they appear in "Maybe Tomorrow" and "earh dies screaming" videos to.

  • @Smart9682

There was a Best of UB40 VHS out in the late 80s or early 90s. The fat family were sat watching all of the videos and making comments during and in between each song. My guess is that the videos now on youtube have been ripped from that VHS

  • @fixedathome ahh I see cool, I wasn't aware of the VHS coming out back then, that makes sense, cheers.

  • Kid growing up on a brummie council estate it was never about race or colour because we never thought about it we just wanted to play footie. unfortunately there were grown ups!

  • bad, bad tune, u play it boyz . big-up ub40 4eva, magicangel xxxxx

  • And here I was always thinking this song was about unrequited love or something. It's a bit of a weird video to be honest. Nice reggae song though.

  • ..and one of their best video's

  • @betichi smoke some weed and hopefully you will work it out i will give you a clue the blacks are white and the whites are black there only colours what matters is while we are all hateing the real arseholes (goverments)are getting away with murder !

  • @betichi sorry that should have posted to the person below you !

  • classic tune!!!!

  • am white but wots the vid all about??

  • sorry spelling mistake on jamaicans,

  • UB40 at there best, class band, class song, love it

  • heru , i bet even UB40 didnt realise the multicutural mess this country would be in today tho , I dont them singing songs about Islam the Sharia Law or Jihad which are the problems only the BNP are addressing today , "do many people know that"?

  • how exactly are BNP addressing the problem of terrorism? Blaming a countrys problems on people of a different colour or religion is a scape goat for why the problems exist.

  • by not letting anymore islamic nutjobs preaching hate on the streets of Britain , i say only Britain because there is nothing great left about it . i dont see Jamicans or Africans preaching hate on the streets nor far east asians, just the muslim hate clerics and hundreds of muslim yobs. my comment was to heru who seems to think UB40 are all for this ,

  • bnp supporters always gonna look for some bullshit excuse....an its always gonna be bullshit...nuff said...an ye im white

  • Look out for the British Lovers Rock Gala Awards dvd OUT NOW IN YOU SHOPS OR ON LINE

  • this is a fcuking tune man one of thier best riddims

  • Probably my favourite UB40 track - used to get passed over for "Earth Dies Screaming" on the radio at the time - maybe this very clever vid had something to do with it - might have ruffled some feathers!!!

  • my god I've not seen this in years thank for the posting lol thank a lot!!!

  • Redpat: For your information UB40 consist of eight members, four of which are black or mixed race. Where do you get "racist trash" from?

  • Hahaha! Fuck soulja boy!

  • Idiot

  • what a tune its sickening the shit that gets to no 1s these days, UB40 all the way

  • fucking turd. you must be one of the PC brigade. how is this racist ?

  • Love It!!! and I didn't even know it existed!

As for you, redpat...The band is multi-cultural buddy...or did you notice Earl and Astro?>>apologies Norman..tisk tisk

  • get a life

  • they also released "present arms in dub" a sort of instrumental remix of the album, check it out!

  • JohnElliot said it right. 1980 they were still showing that ridiculous show on the BBC & this is their way of showing exactly how stupid it looks to them. I got it too John, although it took me a while to actually realise this is actually Ali lol!

Never seen it before. Thx for posting UB.

Btw, look how Ali is moving his hips at the start. He might be exaderating it 'cause he's

in costume & all but that is raw, natural rythm right there.

I can't stop watching it. RED hot!

  • Wow, from ub40file album, the best. This song is so sad but beautiful!this is a shortened version. Thanks for posting.Love and Respect for ub40.

  • Top Tune Top Band!!!

  • fukin magic one of my all time favourites!

  • My fav #. DUBWIZE!

  • It was a good vid and now the keyboard player has quit UB40 are no more in my eyes

  • Yes thats right gotta be the best double A side of all time in my opinion

  • I agree

  • The video was their way of taking the piss out of the black and white minstrel show by the white guys blacking up and the black guys whiting up i was 13 when this came out and got the meaning in 2 secs.

  • For me the best of the early tunes to never make a major hit love it as much now as did in then

  • I dont understand the video

  • there old stuff is there best

  • I love this song!

  • Im black, and there's no such thing as a 'black issue' what we have are moral issues which need to be addressed. stop living a lie!!

  • do you have the 12 inch version coz i want someone to post it on here, not heard it for ages1

  • I was listening to this on my old album "UB40 best of volume 1 track 5" this morning and it brought back alot of good memories :)

  • great song again that I loved when I was younger too woohoo

  • My last comment was directed at SidewalksOfNY315 (JaFAKEan comment)

  • Don't know why this song never made it to the 'Signing Off' album, it's a good song, yes, but why leave it off completely?

  • it came as a 12" single with signing off originally i think, then was released as a single with 'the earth dies screaming' on the flip side! the 12" version is brill, over 8 mins long with earl doing most of it on the bass!

  • tremendous bass line eh guys! iam busy trying to play it....its solid man! great tune

  • ... by far my favourite UB40 song. Remember buying this in 1980, and I'm sure this was the one with the record sleeve printed like a signing-on card - a UB40.

  • still got the album gary oh they were the days i remember seeing these live in 1979/80 at the derby assembly rooms although a small venue they packed the joint memories my friend

  • Is it me... or does this song seem to be about inter-raciality... rather the Dream of it, and it's non-fulfillment?

    Like dreaming a lie?

The (scuse the colloquialism) white dude's painted black and the black dude(again plz excuse) painted white :) auspicious as!

  • y my vid keep jumpin? who got da 12" o dis? it ova 8 mins long check the base!

  • JaFAKEcans dressed up as minstrel show characters!

  • Stop talkin shit man, if white people dont like black music it makes them racist and when they are influenced by it morons like you say they are TRYING to be black - STFU. They love the old black music and it comes out in the songs as well as black issues raised in the lyrics - does not mean they want to BE black you tool.

  • Well how can a white man possibly know anything about going through a "black issue"?

  • You are such a fool - Tyler is a song about a black man going to jail for a crime he did not commit and 30 years later he is still there - that's a human rights issue, not just a black issue. That's the sort of stuff they sing (or used to anyway) about. People would listen to them BECAUSE they are white (the singer anyway) so they could highlight 'black' issues as you call them.

  • no colours to music, chill man

  • great song

  • This is wrong on so many levels.

  • mayne bin lookin 4 dis 1
