Gotta say I am much more the Genesis Gabriell kinda girl really of the 2 eras but this ... this is wonderful - and a great great song turn it on and turn it up again!!!
I LOOOOOOOOOOVE this sont by genesis but..but..but ... the beguining is similar " prone accident " trought status quo no??? in 1978 ... and turn it on again in 1980 !
Genesis is/was 2 very different and distinct sounding bands:one fronted by Collins who has the better voice and one by Gabriel who had the vision, both of which are far superior to anything out there now, I mean really for all intents and purposes ROCK IS DEAD! ;o)
@DrumminAnimal73 You should watch that video. It's hilarious and a total goof. The guys in the band have even said in interviews it was a joke. Funny stuff.

1ST time since 1830 that the nation Belgium is OVER ONE YEAR on the road with no government. Turn it on again! But do we still need them? The "administrative-inhabitants" of 7 SEVEN governments-in-THE-government , so much people evendo not believe the fact!!!- that cost us all that money FOR WHAT than heving their asses assured??? I'd like to know.
it really is a shame genesis became this peter gabriel era and early collins was awesome but this no.........well i guess money does this to a great band
@nicothemusicfan Such a tired cliche. Honestly the prog era is amazing and the Rock era is fantastic as well. I don't let mindless bias get in the way of enjoying albums like Genesis and Invisible Touch.
@pinkfloydrule27 Well said, I used to completely discount the later era Genesis, but I've realized that they're just as good, they're just different. They didn't lose their ambition like most people seem to think, and they didn't sell out.
tony Banks, is one of the best if not the best keyboard player out there! He is always so cool, you never hear him mess up, never see his struggle with it, it's just easy to him. you see him, just kicking back playing flawless music, every now & then you will see a beer next to the keyboard, rock n roll bad ass? lol. a bad ass for sure!
Damn... that brother playin the drums belongs there. Phil originally played the drums in the studio. Phil is a World Class drummer for sure. To keep up with Him you have to be good. To hear Him in a more ''Rock'" context listen to His playin on Robert Plants; Pictures at Eleven album 1982. For those of you that don't know, He plays on 7 of the 9 songs and it is well worth a listen. Genesis are great in their own right . One of the best bands around especially in the 80's and 90's. Long Live Rock
i really don't understand how people can't love this man, and it honestly pains me that he quit the business when he's such an amazing singer and songwriter. sure, a bit cheesy at times, but name on big artist that hasn't been/isn't cheesy at times. i like cheese though.
i tried showing my sister this to teach her a little about time signatures in music so she could understand how basically all rhythms in music work and how you can manipulate a melody to be the best fucking thing in the world with it...
and she said it wasn't important to her and that she "didn't care" and "she thought it was something funny."
I like the fact that they seem to be like every one else in the world, not rock star. It would be awsome to be Phill's son: "Look!! my dad plays the drums and got a kick ass voice" =D
You have to give Phil credit for bringing the band into the 80's, but I still think Duke was the last album that connected with the 70's Genesis, at all. Most would probably say that it was ATTWT.
yes - 13/8 there is absolutely no excuse for the blatant lack of creativity in today's pop music. call it prog rock, call it rock, call it music. It is imaginative, creative and inspired. This a 13/8 dance song. I played this song in a top 40 band at high school dances when it was a smash and never lost a dancer. (BTW - it is alternating 4/4 and 7/8) This song is a testimony to great songwriting and having the courage to letting creativity be your guide!!
@inneswarbeck1 Phil isn't a founding member of Genesis and all three surviving members wrote this song. They started in 1967, Phil came along later in 1970 as their drummer. After Peter Gabriel, (yes the same Peter Gabriel that did In Your Eyes and Sledgehammer) left in 1975, he very reluctantly took over singing duties. In multiple interviews he has stated that Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford are the real creative soul of the band, not him.
@inneswarbeck1 Actually, it was Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford who formed Genesis - Phil Collins joined in 1971 as the band's third (and definitive) drummer. :)
I love this song. BUT, could someone PLEASE tell the editors of live videos that we do NOT need any views from beyond row 5. AND STOP SWITCHING VIEWS EVERY HALF SECOND!!!!. JESUS!!! How about 5 to 30 seconds of one shot then maybe got to another one. This totally ruins trying to watch any live videos. I swear I could put these idiots to shame if they would just let me do the editing.
I come from times where Genesis were singing about Kings , Queens , Harrold theBarrel, Nursery crimes , The Knife...and Suppers Ready!... and all that.
But like Genesis , I never stopped turning it on again!
AND ME!!! The best way to announce oneself... Heard it once on a live album, now I use it to end the presentation of my band... Seems to work better than everything else so far :)
