I began looking at Modigliani again after many years. In the early 1960's every Greenwich Village book store had posters of his work everywhere. However, it was always the same 6 or 7 portraits that had been made into posters, which everyone was aware of. Seeing all of this work, really helps one to see the vastness of his talent. The reproduction market really minimized him, but his work would not succumb to being so trivialized. Great post!

@Veldiw My experiences in the Village began when I was 17 (1959) when I was still living in Jersey City and taking the train into the Village on Sunday afternoons to meet friends at the Gaslight Cafe to hear poetry readings, discover Cappuccino, and flirt with the torn t-shirt crowd. This was the last of the Beatnik era. Later, living there, I enjoyed the non-restrictive environment which was always in the air. I love the streets in Spring. View documentary: The Cruise (Netflix)
