Project Kaisei is leaving today for their second voyage to the North Pacific Gyre. You can help support their expedition googling “dream sail raffle” and visiting our website, as well as posting it on your pages!
Before we go spending even more $ and oil collecting plastic "out there" in the middle of the ocean, let's collect the millions of tons of plastics on our beaches, in our rivers and nearshore waters...and turn that into fuel. If that works out well, and we can prove the concept, then we can consider the next steps. Seems logical to me.
Most of the plastic in this video is in water less than 2 m in depth. Most of our fish come from the coastal areas.
BRAVO, BRAVO, BRAVO!!! Everyone needs to see this. Material life is a big problem; however, we need to start taking care of ourselves closer to home, as in procuring food and materials, and getting rid of our waste closer to home. Tecnology needs to be developed and shared, so that facilities and minicipalities can take care of their waste closer to home. The soot from ships settles in the poles, absorbing sun light; those same ships are a big part of the plastics spillage into the pacific!
1 Within our lifetime we will have fished the seas of all edible species. We've already reduced fish stocks by 90% in the last 50 years, fish stocks are collapsing, some species are already close to extinction.
2 Within our lifetime we will run out of oil and hence plastic. The global need for oil is still accelerating and all we're doing is burning it.
If we're not willing to tackle these two problems first, why bother with this at all?
Save The Earth should be put in google :)

Thanks for taking care of our oceans. Talk is cheap...more groups should act instead of talk. Good work.

Hmm, this is a non issue for two reasons.

The trash today in the oceans is disgusting. I'm glad Google Earth is being used to help the earth.

This is what the Environmentalists should be putting their efforts into, not some bogus man made global warming theory.

Google is proving the company is a good global neighbour. So what has Yahoo! or MicroSoft done lately?
