@cassavelli I agree, but there's absolutely no reason to bring that up here. You're going to start another retarded argument about something that's subjective.
It';s sad how youtube has a Justin Beiber channel but not a Frank Zappa channel. Why aren't the fore bearers of progressive rock/metal treated like they should be?
@Rush3524 Did you know that Beiber's fame is caused by people talking on the internet about him? Even the hate is free advertising for him. What I'm doing now is the same actually...aah nevermiind
I saw FZ many times from '72 onward. The thing about his tone here is amp overdrive, not pedal distortion. He had a Crybaby wah and some chorus units, but the sound is from amps being double plugged in a chain. I saw him at Cobo Hall in 73 and the sound was crazy.
this is the guy!!! is just impossible think about music at the last 50 years without his name on the top positions. please , for those who want to know about , listen one of these:

finally , there isn´t one man abble to substitute Zappa´s geniusly and feeling.
sorry the poor english , hughs form south brazil to every zappamaniacs!!
Every note he hits, is genius! The complexity of his ever changing improvisations is gold. This is true music at it's best! Screw anyone who thinks otherwise! Because it's fact. Frank Zappa is the best music this Planet we call Earth, has to show for itself! In a class of his own! No one can match the genius of Frank Zappa! Untouchable. This is what God would have on his iPod!!
I have to say I was curious about Zappa's work for a long time, I managed to buy about 6 or 7 of his more well known albums and proceeded to listen to over the course of a month. Boy was I disappointed, Zappa is hailed by a genius and when he decide's to make music he does have some interesting stuff, ultimately I think he is one of the most over-rated musicians I have ever encountered, his music is overshadowed by his "zanyness" and this leaves him in the ranks of talented clown.
@Thespeakerofmanytru8 Overrated? compared to who?,Beethoven?,maybe. Are you sure you feel confdent about your innaccurate opinion of the maestro? Many people were dissapointed wiith stravinsky. It's not a matter of taste,t's a matter of greatness and you certainly have no reputation to make any judgement on his music. You're just a mediocraty.
@heyschmuck LOL not everybody wants to listen to pretentious art rock....get over it. Zappa's nowhere near Beethoven, anybody could listen to Beethoven and end up feeling and appreciating a few pieces, few can listen to any Zappa record without zoning out once and thinking what the fuck is the big deal about Zappa? or saying in plain english "some of this is fucking Shit."
@Thespeakerofmanytru8 Pardon me? Everyone loves Frank. How do I know this? I wrote up an application form for women to be my girlfriend. One of the mandatory questions asked what they thought of Frank Zappa. All of them gave the correct answer.
Epic performance by one of the great ones. Wish he was still alive. He would be running for re-election this year, and life would be a hell of a lot better than it is, right now!!!

I don't get it = this isn't weird. I listen to some weird music and I know when its weird or not. To me this just seems like psychedelic music in a vein with early Pink Floyd or something.
Frank Zappa was an American composer of true genius right up there in his own way with Gershwin , Ives, Berlin, or whoever, and in addition he was one of the greatest electric guitarists of the entire era, as is amply demonstrated in this video. In short Zappa was among the handful of the greatest musicians this country ever produced
@shocktrooper1000 yes there is it's an italian band called ELIO E LE STORIE TESE..they've been playing with ike willis for example which said "it's exactly like playing at zappa's times with them" the only problem is that they sing in italian..and artistically are inspired totally by zappa even playing so many different kinds of music
I read a book by an anonymous writer who claimed she had a 5 yr affair with Zappa, while on tour! Could it have been an unhappy divorcing Ruth Underwoood from her estranged husband,Ian????This affair started just about the time she would have been separating from him and she was on zappas tour without Ian around 73ish!In fact she claimed she played in the tour!Must have been ruth! Also, look at zappas roxy video trailer on youtube. You see frank getting cute with ruth while ruth was playing.HMMM.
@fadethetrade neat tidbit, it is great to see someone else obsess about Frank Zappa. I mean it sucks that he died, because I really would have liked to have killed him and for you know a lot about me. No but seriously thank god he is dead.
Remember going to a Zappa concert back in the day, he had around 10 semi-naked ladies (they had feathered boas on) what an experience, back then the concerts where so much fun, open seating at the Smoke Arena in San Diego.

@shannahlacina exactly.there are so many people who wont consider anything outside of the catchy, where you have to actually think, pause and listen again to understand (for instance some of the percussion here) in the piece of music
at 1:43 the asian cunt messes up the drum line and she is like fuck and then zappa shoots darts at her with his eyes. holy shit! i bet she never played with those cats again!

You know, a lot of people say his music is crazy and weird. It's supposed to be! Frank knew how it sounded and he intended on it sounding exactly how it sounds! To me it's crazy to listen to the same 4/4 pop songs your whole life and have only that played on the radio. This music is much more sane than anything on the radio! People immediately close their minds to something "weird". If you want to like Franks music, you have to have an open mind! He has a whole different look at music! Rip Frank
@Zombywoof91 Agreed...when I hear the music that's popular on the radio today it's crazy to me that other people enjoy it. Most of the music on the radio is just catchy repetitive choruses with shallow lyrics. This is real creativity...expression. not a shitty hook with a catchy chorus made to make it to the charts to make money. Shame the direction the music industry has gone.
@Zombywoof91 He was too aberrated and subversive for alot of people. You needed to put together many different mixes of Zappa for different type of audiences.I only play his mellow jazz compositions of the late 60's and early 70's in the car when my wife drives(no zappa lyrics allowed!) with me but when I drive alone,I throw in Billy was a mountain or Broadway the hard way! For a britney spears fan, only play love of my life, valley girl, bobby brown, etc.

@TheAlexBrasill well, yeah, the claymation guy, if you saw him in "Baby Snakes", was pretty well baked, can't deny that. Though Zappa never touched the stuff, drank gallons of coffee tho!
He was funny and a great musician but when you do funny music you dont get taken serously and you get tired of hearing the same joke over and over so his disk dosnt get played after a few times thru.
@KadeshLeMort Tell me how many times has that happened to another Artist?Same with Eazy E he got infected with AIDS and died in a couple of months....These people dont fuck arround just look at what they did to JFK.

@TheAlexBrasill well, yeah, the claymation guy, if you saw him in "Baby Snakes", was pretty well baked, can't deny that. Though Zappa never touched the stuff, drank gallons of coffee tho!

ivaa7777JAWA 4 months ago
He was funny and a great musician but when you do funny music you dont get taken serously and you get tired of hearing the same joke over and over so his disk dosnt get played after a few times thru.
Big77Jim 4 months ago
Frank should have just played music and never opened his mouth.. His vocal "performances" SUCK. He is the Weird Al Yankovic of the 60/70's.
dx398 4 months ago
@dx398 dude, yankovic basically based his career off of parodies of other peoples' music. frank wrote his own music.
