  • Nice work guys! That was perfect. Im a huge fan of call and haul as opposed to stay and play, especially something as serious as a stroke. I think it took no less than 30 seconds for that decision to be made in the video. This should definitely be a teaching aid for EMT Basic students especially!

  • my father just went to the hospital in an ambulance. i think he is having an stroke. i called 911 and tried to massage his left and right common carotid arteries and veins. i also did many flexion and extension of the limbs while waiting for the ambulance to arrive.

  • Id give him a GTN immediately and 2 aspirins.

There is no two ways about this.

  • @Dynaverse Hell no. First of all, you can't possibly tell if it is a haemorrhagic stroke or an occlusive stroke. If it is the former then you have just deactivated this patient's TxA2 coagulation pathway for the life of the platelets and just made it very difficult to stem a IC bleed. 2ndly, trying to bring down systemic hypertension in stroke is rookie mistake 101. With increased intracranial pressure, the only thing maintaining cerebral end tissue perfusion is the high systemic BP

  • @Dynaverse The only thing dangerous about an acute high BP is the risk of haemorrhage which at worst has already happened and it is hasn't, it mostly likely wont happen unless it is sustained for weeks-months. and now the high BP is the only damage control taking place.

Anti-coags you have suggested without a contrast CT and or lumbar puncture will kill a haemorrhagic stroke patient and the GTN you have suggested will kill a haemorrhagic or occlusive stroke patient.

  • @Dynaverse There is a time and a place to try to screw with people's chemistry and physiology... in a heart attack, go your hardest with your suggested treatment. But there are times such as this to treat conservatively until you have all of the facts or risk FUBARing your patient.

  • Cincinnati stroke check nice
