People, people... Who gives a flying frak about what 'genre' they are? You either like them or you don't. Screw labels, I'm sick and tired of people flaming on this site for something as pointless and meaningless as a frakking label. Please, someone, tell me why labels matter so damn much!!!!
@flamesfearfuture i wouldnt call either of those meaningless, they tell a lot abt a band, its just that fucktards really misinterperet all of it, like real emo is Escape the Fate and faggitty bullshit bands like that. emo is under the umbrella term of "scene music" botch isnt anywhere near scene music.
@canthinkverywell you've made a bit of an error there friend. Calling Escape the Fate and shiity bands like that 'emo' would be wrong in itself, real emo is bands like Jawbreaker, Rites of Spring.
But other than that, what you're saying is totally right.
FUUCK. Botch was amazing. if anyone who was into them back when is looking for a great show definitely check out a Russian Circles show - certainly not hardcore, but intense and extreme in many other ways; best show for me in the last couple years... also check out Narrows on Jake Bannon's label Deathwish, fucking great stuff there coming from Botch's guitarist and vocalist, think they may even have a new album coming some time soon? maybe out? Botch=one of the all time greats.
I remember back around 1999 to 2002 you were just spoilt for choice, so many great bands and yet these days you really have to wade through some shit in order to find a diamond.
@kiriyama255 No shit man! I agree completely!!!! I was a little late in the game, early 2000 discovering DEP with Calculating and listening to alot of death metal and shit.. but yeah, those were the "golden" years for me. You have to dig through a ton of shit to find anything worth listening to.. I really like Tombs though.. its got that vibe about it, and some of the new Chariot a little bit. Its hard to find anything like this. Coalesce, Converge, Cave In, Botch, Spitfire, old Embodyment
@nashvegas20 theres a band from the uk called throats who's self titled e.p. really deserves a listen but as the story on these prmosing bands go they played they're last show a few weeks back. hehehe fuck it I might just commit aural suicide and listen to Rebecca Black on repeat....
@kiriyama1011 I really like Trash Talk.. its got a cool vibe. Not like these bands, but its good..sort of reminds me of a converge-ish like sound. I just keep listening to old stuff haha.. but some newerer bands are intriguing me
its soo bad ass to see what came from this. minus the bear is flawless. His guitar style is definitely a lot more orginal than a lot of stuff today. It hard to break that realm of boringness and find something that stands out. Props to these dudes fo sho.
I heard some dickhead say Botch is emo. Im so sick of that label being thrown around for anything people dont like, its idiotic, its no justification just for not liking something.
Botch was a brilliant band. DEP and Sikth were two worthy followers, as well as Poison the well.
Yeah, many retards sling the genre label "emo" at what seems like any heavy band that isn't on the radio.
I wish I knew and liked these guys around the time before they broke up, they sound amazing live. Then again, I would've been anywhere between 1 through 11 years old during the time they were together. Oh well. I will always remember them as pioneers and as a fucking amazing band.
....you'd really classify this as 'post-hardcore'??????? NOT fucking emo. NOT post hardcore.... many different things, maybe from a technical aspect it could be considered post/hcore, but genre classifications are just trying to fit shit into a box it was never meant for in the first place! fuck the genres!!! this is HARDCORE. maybe a fucked up take on it, but at it's most basic-
The dude with the backpack that stagedives/crowdsurfs in this video is the same one seen about two and a half minutes into the official video for Saint Matthews Returns To the Womb. You can even see a guy towards the rear of the stage in this video filming for the music video!
I saw Botch open for Neurosis, then saw them open for Dillenger about 2 months later, then they broke up :( I don't really listen to Dillenger anymore, but I'll listen to Botch (and Converge) until I die.
I know exactly what you mean. I loved Dillinger when I was in high school, I think they sort of fell from grace when they got their new singer. Dillinger didn't really mature well in their later albums like Botch and Converge. Dillinger is way too commercial now and their older style is easily imitated by newer bands, whereas Botch and Converge wannabes are only able to mimic certain aspects. It's very telling of Converge and Botch that indie snobs who don't like hardcore listen to them.
hmm i don't agree with u man. i loved converge, botch and dillinger really much when i was 18-20. now i really appreciate botch cause they are sort of a "modern rocknroll" band for me, and i love their rawness, but again, i love dillinger too, even in their last album, cause they are exploring something that no one ever do. so, false steps are admitted, but they're simply great.
Well put. Just because Ire Works wasn't as insane as Calculating Infinity doesn't mean DEP have "sold out" or anything. Like you said, they are exploring a new aspect of their genre and I think it worked really well. There may never be another Botch or Converge, but I think DEP are carrying the mathcore torch right now and it's great that they are becoming more mainstream, just means that a wider audience can now get their hands on mathcore.
I think DEP picked up where Botch left off and have taken the mathcore sound to a new level. Fair enough they seem a bit watered down now, but I think that's just them maturing as a band. I've been a fan of DEP since the beginning and LOVE Calculating Infinity, Irony is a Dead Scene etc, but you can't deny Ire Works is a masterpiece. It may be more mainstream but that doesn't make it any less good.
I love Botch, but I think if they were still together they'd have gone a similar way to DEP.
So I Know that Dave K. is in Minus The Bear, Tim Cook is in These Arms Are Snakes, as well as Roy with Dave V. Bud what's become of vocalist Tim Latone?
o and for the record Dave right now is a volunteer firefighter in Tacoma. he did however play drums in Roy for a little while instead of vocals. as far as Tim goes i have no clue wat hes up to so there u have it
these guys and coalesce were awesome. i guess a few bands today can be accepted with the whole 'math' rock thing. i'm mostly talking about dillinger escape plan. NOT NORMA JEAN. this bands was grand in all ways possible.
The guitar introduction is the intro of Swimming the Channel Vs. Driving the Chunnel and the song is Saint matthew returns to the womb. The album is We Are the Romans. Fuckin amazing
While I think both bands are great, I think Botch is far more interesting. They did it with a bit more style and finesse than Dillinger. Still a good band though.
i never saw botch but ive seen converge and dillinger...dillinger being my favourite of the two...i thought they were better, but converge was just like "FUUUUUUUCKKKKKK THIS IS INTENSE!!!" and it was awesome.
I was at this. Botch was my absolute favorite band at the time. I probably wasn't too far to the right of the camera, as far as I can remember. But my head got kicked a lot, and also got people dropped on it, so who knows? Awesome video.
This was my first live video of Botch i've seen. Other then the couple sketchy/shakey camera moments, they kick ass and makes me excited for Botch DVD that is said to come out this summer quoting from Hydra Head.
