Man, I almost forgot. How embarassing. I'm posting this message on all my favorite Combat! vids; today is Veterans Day.
We watch and love these characters for the attributes they possess. Bravery, integrity, the commitment to doing the right thing, no matter the personal cost. There are real life soldiers with these very traits, right now. We need a moment of silence and contemplation to realize that precious generation-- the WWll one-- is almost totally lost to us. What a tragedy that is.
Unbelievable video. I've never heard this song before, which for me adds to the illusion that it was made just for Hanley. Perfect. I love this song. The words are so powerful and meaningful, a person would have to have the IQ of a turnip to not appreciate it. The ending was just excellent in its grim reality and perfect timing. The song ended and moved seamlessly into the episode's own stark soundtrack. Thanks for this. PS I can't watch the Tribute to Saunders (my fave!) here in the US! Help?

Rick Jason as an actor is actually much more compelling than Vic Morrow, who's also superb. Read Jason's fascinating online autobiography, in which he details the mistakes he made as a rising young actor, when he'd obviously been earmarked for a great movie career. He wound up in "Combat!" instead, a good show but he should've joined the ranks of Cooper, Wayne, Gable, Lancaster, etc. He fought the studios over beginning pay plus angered a couple of the wrong brass, winding up in "Combat!"
UNFORGETTABLE portrayal of a great leader. I was 5 when I watched Combat! with my dad. When I think back, the first of my few specific memories are of his eyes and face, so much expression without one word. Then I remember he was called Lieutenant. As a child he was my favorite. I remember anticipating him on the screen every week and being disappointed when it was a "grumpy" Sarge episode. As an adult I now love the whole squad since I have finally re-watched the episodes. I'm hooked!
The video is kind of dark and can't see it well. I don't like the music for the video although the sentiment is nice. Combat! is a great show and the character of Hanely is very realistic. I was sad to hear that actor Rick Jason commited suicide in 2000 a week after a Combat! reunion. Very sad.
In fact, it's not disrespectful at all. I find this particular song truly salutes Hanley's character. However, not everyone agrees and you are entitled to your opinion. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the video! My respects to the people and country who fought for freedom and noble causes. My respect also to the people who are at the battlefield now. However, America is not what it used to be. Those were good times full of noble ideals.
Excellent Vid!!! ... Captured the scorns of WWII ... I watch Combat! almost every night since I found a channel that reruns it ... Used to watch it weekly as a kid in the 60's ... The realisms of war potrayed on the small screen were like no other back then ... Scary and heartening to say the least ... Thanks for posting!
I'm glad you enjoyed it. The next planned songvid will be a salute to the entire squad. Eventually I will work my way around to Littlejohn and Billy, for now we'll have to make do with Saunders, Hanley, Kirby, Caje and Doc. Again, thanks!

Rick Jason was a superb actor and writer (Scapbook of My Mind). Television is not the same without shows like Combat.

doesnt anyone like Sgt Saunders?

We all love THE SARGE. If Combat were Lord of the Rings, Hanley would be Frodo and Saunders would be Samwise.

Saunders is great. Television was very lucky to have an actor of Vic Morrow's calliber.
