  • I'm confused...you have a house on your property why are you building a dome too?

  • I love love love the concept of the dome home, but why do they have to be monoliths, unless you are going to house a lot of people in one? Remember... small footprint concept

  • Hobbit holes!

  • Im coming to Ecuador in January 2012, not planing on going back to where i come from. I want to LIVE, not work. Id love to come visit you guys. What i really want to do is make a community with this kind of housing: vvv simondale net/house/ . Ill be buying a bike and bringing a tent and all the money i have. Please give me a PM if the simondale house is interesting :)

  • Rockin' the domes! Wooo hooooo!

  • lube that drill press your bits will last longer and not create as much heat or squeek an good lube would be minral oil veg oil .....

  • Take a look at this Mexican Organic Arquitect, Javier Senosiain, arquitecturaorganica

Felicidades por seguir realizando sus sueños!!

  • you might wanna check out ashyana deane regarding the secret geometries and many other stuff..... very good interview on project camelot !!!

  • You guys are really living the dream and you're such an awesome example for the rest of the world to live by! We all need someone good and wholesome to look up to :)

  • Very cool. It's like Bag End meets an iPod! Good luck!

  • Cool, you are really building a dream out there. I love those domes as well as packed earth and earth ship construction. I would do the same thing if I had some land.

  • Awesome i would love a geometric dome home here in america on my grandparents land here in america...you two are so lucky to get this wow.... what i have been wanting is a cob oven and firepit outside...

  • So excited for you guys! Congratulations!! :)

  • I've been away camping for a while and WOW!! What amazing news. How fortunate you guys are to have all of that land in such a sacred area. Simply Amazing. I want to come live there!!

  • THANK YOU for getting that land just on the border of the nature conservation. I feel that you will be integrating into nature in the best way possible and what an important and beautiful place! : )

  • I LOVE what you guys are doing!!! Re: Faraday cage.. pretty much every structure has metal in it right. Even IKEA uses baby nails!

  • I can't wait to see the finished house. It's going to be epic-ly beautiful. My dream house on dream land. So sweet!!! I thought I recognized the voice of Antonio :) I can't wait until he puts up another video with his adorable Marina. My daughter Marikko loves watching their video's and it has been a long time since one :)

  • It's not good to live in any structure with metal in it. The metal makes a Faraday cage. Faraday Cages are harmful to your health and the last place you want to be for any extended period of time. Common symptoms are included dizziness, nausea, headaches, a sense of disorientation or feeling of being unable to concentrate or think clearly.

  • Ever heard of earthship homes? 100% off grid, water recycles, indoor green house, etc. Lots of info on you tube.

This is so exciting. I will have my home in the country one day too !

  • MATT, on your way up the mountain, coming from Malacatos, on your left, there is a huge white dome structure. Go ask the people there for more info...

    W

  • What about cob? Cob homes on that land would be beautiful. Blessings

  • You all look so happy! I'm so excited for you! That is the kind of living I am bringing into my life. Thank you for the inspiration!

  • I like holistic house plans. I hope it goes well for you. I want to build with totally natural unprocessed materials. I'll let you know how I get on :)

  • The earthbag structures must have an awful R-value/U-value... I'm guessing the domes are similar. Does the increased K-value make up for that? I'm no construction expert so I'm sure my ignorance is showing, maybe someone can educate me?

While these structures might be energy efficient, I think the more porous materials used in traditional construction are actually more healthy to live in unless you have really good air circulation.

  • Hi Matt/Angela, I have made a drawing of a hobbit house with similar qualities to what you are looking for, three storey, grass roof, stone chimney. Its on my website if you would like to see.

I can't wait to meet you guys there, Cedric would be very helpfull for you right now but we all have to wait another year, because this year it's India time for us.

Sending lots of love all the time to both of you and all the happy community and friends around you. Carole

  • The one at 2:50 for sure!

  • i would be more than willing to help but i cant go very long without some fresh organic free range beef (and i dont think i could bring my livestock with me)

  • Top tip - sounds like you need to use a drop of oil when drilling.

Looking forward the seeing the completed dome!

  • @eatmoreraw no doubt! I work in a machine shop, I was cringing at them drilling without fluid

  • What a cool and beautiful idea for a place to live in. Best of wishes and lots of smiles!!!!

  • and, if you investigate further, you can find some very elaborate earthbag structures just as awesome as the photos you have posted.

  • @17babaha those projects arent earthbags they are shotcrete

  • @BrunoBGarcia I'm aware of that...just suggesting the alternative of Earthbag structures

  • Wonderful location - I'd love to be there. Just curious though, why not build earthbag houses? It seems like they would be the perfect complement to the land. Owen Geiger has a website and blog if you want to check it out further.

  • Very cool! It's my dream to get some land and build an earthbag house!

  • Wow! How awesome. Nice work :o)

  • That seems like a cool idea to be able to have some shelter while you build there. Do you use stucco/mud in construction to get all the curves? Are you building them for esoteric reasons or are they more green than the house you currently have?

  • blessings

  • Why?

  • Awesome!

  • this is awesome guys! i'm excited for you! this looks like it's gonna be a fun project and a fun place to live.
