The Kirby has a very well made bypass motor that uses 4.5 amps on the carpet and 7 amps with the attachments. Most canisters use a 12 amp motor.
The Kirby (along with several other uprights) has very fast airflow...faster than most canisters. But suction? Just feel the end of the hose on a Kirby...and the end of the hose on any canister, when they are both running. You'll see the difference. It's dramatic.
