It's not really an assumption. It's because of the lifestyle differences. Much like Japan, both men and women tend to have smaller frames. But that's changing due to changes in diet and lifestyle. It's not the WW2 anymore. The Japanese graduating highscool boys are much taller than many of the third year college guys. China is growing at a rate of 10%, it's no surprise that their waistlines would grow with their economy. Plus this woman was raised british. In China she may have been thiner.
