  • Thanks a lot!

  • I got the same screw driver as you xD

  • Way to perfect! :) thanks sooooooooooooooooooooooo much!

  • what did you say in your last words? "THANKS"? I am the one who should have said that! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR UPLOADING THIS VIDEO!! THANK YOU! (Y)

  • Thank you so much for making this video. You just saved me from buying a new trackball.

  • Jesus. Christ. I'm a girl, so I basically born with fear of disassemble things and not knowing how to put them back. Not only this helped me cleaning up everything and put everything back, but this actually worked and my trackball is normalized, so I'M WAAAAAY relief. Thanks.

  • Thank you very much for your tutorial! it helped alot!

  • this helped so much!

  • this is such a good help.....thnx

  • Thank you very much for this instructionvideo !!!

My BB trackball wasn't working properly, so I followed very carefully your clear directions, and after turning the power back on it worked again !. Thanks a lot.

  • seems very complicated and risky

  • THANK YOU SIR

  • Thanks, very helpful. I didn't have the guts to disassemble the trackball but was able to get it cleaned enough to get it working again.

  • this video save my 2000 to 2500 Rs. and thanx he creator of this video and youtube too........................

really this is very help full for bold 9000 trackboll problem

  • Thanks for this video. I replaced the trackball so I can now sell it as working rather than with a trackball that doesn't click ;)

  • thx men loveyou

  • Very useful, this video helped me so much.

    Thanks a lot.

  • this was very helpful

  • omg i think i love you ! thaaaaaanks

  • Thanks! worked like magic

  • Thanks a lot. It really helped me step by step n I successfully clean my phone's trackball. Sending it to service center not only takes a lot of time but the way they handle the devices completely ruins the device. If they repair one thing, they ruin somehting else. So doing it my self really helped me in a lot of sense. Thanks again:)

  • excellent guide...thanks for helpin me save the trouble of sendin my blackberry for repair which would take me like 2-3weeks for it...

followed exact procedures through this and solved the trackball problem..

    thumbs up for this...=)

  • awesome tutorial, helped me fix my bb. thanks for making it ;)

  • where can i get this t5 tool?

  • thanks a lot pal

  • This was a great how to video. It didn't take me 10 mins. but that's ok. I didn't have the proper tools anyway. I did however repair my trackball. Thank you for this video.

  • Thank you for well instruction to clean the trackball of blackberry... I did it! my pohne is like a new gain... once again thank you!!!

  • Thank you for your awesome video... I just followed your instructions and it worked perfectly. Thanks!

  • As you know there are several tutorials about cleaning the trackball - I tried them all trying to avoid opening up my BlackBerry - unfortunately none of them worked! So I bravely followed your tutorial and it has worked a treat! Removed a large ball of dust which had formed quite a hard lump so it was never going to come out without removing the trackball framework. Your instructions are excellent - thank you very much!

  • Excellent Tutorial. My only caveat was that there was no required item list in the description since i had to run about looking for stuff lol. Good tut otherwise

  • Thanks alot! Your tutorial really helped me out.

  • still a good tutorial

  • Trackball is s@@ks on a blackberry i have a curve 3G And bold 9700

  • This video saved my life!

  • Thank you, I fixed my mobile after watching this video, u r amazing :D

  • I've gone about everything you've said, just having a little trouble putting the back cover onto the little trackball bit. It seems impossible! I've funnily enough done it exactly this way before and been successful. I however don't know what I'm doing wrong now :( If anyone can offer any advise, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you!

  • Thank you!

  • Thankyou!! Wow, that was a lot of dust!

  • thank u.

  • Thank you very much for showing me how to clean my trackball... But my problem is not resolved ... My problem is when I click on the trackball, nothing happens ... Do you have a solution to my problem?

  • You could do all this which takes 10mins or buy computer cleaner which blast the dust in under 1min

  • Thank you so much!! You just saved me £15 on my excess and now I have a good working phone :)

  • Can you buy a Torx T5 in the UK? I am not good with this DIY stuff haha

  • Very useful video! Thank you very much!

  • I'd forgotten how easy it was supposed to be to use a trackball instead of pressing it down and getting really angry haha eurgh mine was literally filled with dust, no wonder it barely moved, thaaaaaaaaaaaanks :)

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

  • Cool guide, really, i've cleaned my ball in around 10-15 minutes, in 20 minutes everything was bk to normal

  • Awesome. I found another video on how to do this but they didn't tell me what to do, like I was supposed to just know what to do?!?! This helped A LOT!!!

  • On the back cover of the ball... the metal 'spoon' that makes it click isn't there ... It fell off :( What do I do??? If you don't know what I'm talking about, look on top of your left hand at: @4:20

  • Thank you, your tutorial got my Bold back to full rock 'n roll.

  • Thank you very much. This was my first time repairing a cell phone and the first time I've bothered to comment on youtube. What a difference the replacement has made! Thanks again.

  • I managed to pop out the actual trackball from the case . And now the black things are impossible to put back . Whenever i go to put the metal case back on , it catches the magnets and fucks me over . HELP please .

  • Thanks a million! Getting a replacement phone out of my company is basically impossible, so this has got me out of a pinch. You da man!

  • I followed the steps and the trackball is now working. Many thanks

  • EWWW i just took the metal ring off and there is soo much dust!!! no wonder my trackball is always on the fritz

  • Thank you very much, I followed the steps just how you explained, and it's working like it should work again! Great video!

  • kay sooo. i put a new track ball in and it works and moves in al directions perfect. just it won't click to open and select stuff. HELP!!!!

  • So helpful! But can you make a video showing how to properly install the new replacement LCD screen? Or just explain to me how to?

Cuz i heard that if you touch the back of the LCD you get the dreaded sunspot D:

    Thanks so much!

  • thank you, you helped me out!

  • THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

  • instead of waiting a month for warranty, I changed my trackball by myself. Ofcourse this video helped me alot. Thank you for detail explanations.

  • Thank you very much! It helped a lot!!!

  • thanks, that helped a lot

  • why r u guys risking your blackberry for this method just listen to the black kid and wipe it with an alcohol pad works perfectly and no risk at all

  • nice, helpfull video.

  • Thank you very much Dave! You've just rocked my blackberry trackball world! Now... If you could rock my blackberry lcd screen replacement world... lol... Not a fan of the videos out there so far, and you actually describe and explain everthing as you're going... Thanks for your help!

  • que pena que tu ni hablas español loko, pero tu ere un vacano!!! lol

  • Thanks bruv'! Worked like a charm.

  • Thank you for taking the time to make this video . I took the whole thing apart and cleaned the rollers using a magnifying glass and some alcohol . When I got it back together it worked like new. I forgot how well it is supposed to work! I didn't even need to buy a new trackball !!! Well done!

  • Is the Bold 9700 this easy to take apart? I need to put a new keyboard in mine because the letters are wearing off.

  • Is the Bold 9700 this easy to take apart? I need to put a new keyboard in mine because the letters are wearing off.

  • YOUR AMAZING, YOU SAVED MY BLACKBERRYS LIFE!!!!! THANK YOU :D

  • you are amazing guys. it worked exactly as you said. thank you so much for helping me repair my BB (for free and in 10 minutes).

  • @BassGirlForever: add me on bbm for more info 2556D22A

  • @BassGirlForever: u gotta follow da instructions in the video but the part in the phone where the trackball goes on the board u gotta go in there. Remove da tape and lil metal sensor. Clean the dom and sensor carefully and put everything back together. Let me kno if that fixed ur prob. Dust & lint went under the sensor preventing it from making contact when pressed.

  • hey... i spilt alcohol on my phone last week and urm when i click the trackball down ... it doesnt work it scrolls fine but i have to use the enter button on the keypad to get into files or read messages. what do i do ? clean it ?

  • I did that a year ago for the 1st time... and repeat it maybe every month... i thought I'm the only one who do such bad things to her BB !! so I guess its normal ... its nice to know how ur BB works after all :)

  • I successfully was able to recover the clicking in feeling of the trackball by cleaning sensors on the baord. My trackabll was working fine but wasn't getting feeling of it bouncing back when it was pressed. If anyone wants help with this problem just drop me a comment and I will be glad to assist u. This is also for persons whose trackball cannot select items when pressed.

  • Dave, Thank You so much for this video!! My track ball would not allow me to scroll downward for weeks! Then I found your video, cleaned out my track ball and now my phone is as good as new!! You are a life saver!! <3

  • hi, thanks for support, I do everthing like u show in the video, but, when it closed all I start on my bb and the process bar starting system is restart at 20% .. do u know probably what could be the problem ? thank u !

  • Thanks. I was able to clean out all the gunk (looked like gulf of Mexico oil spill) and dust. Video gave me alot of confidence and was extremely simple. Again, thanks.

  • How long should it take to start back up???? He said it would take a while but how long?

  • Nice video. One question though. I had replaced a new trackball but it seems to have sunken in and no longer click. Any advice

  • Great video and clear instructions - couldn't believe the amount of dirt in there! I can now move "down" again. If you don't have a Torx 5 screwdriver you can also use a 1.4mm flat head, which is the smallest driver in the metric version of the mini screwdriver sets sold for $2.99 as most hardware stores.

  • I agree with others -- WONDERFUL video - especially the close-ups and detailed comments about "problem" areas when cleaning/replacing the trackball, and then reassembling the BB 9000. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

  • you really are my hero (y)

it's my first time to surgery a mobile phone, a blackberry, and get a great succeed because of your tutorial :D

there's a lot of dirt and fibers in the gear of trackball

thanks a bunch you've made my day

    xoxo

  • thanks a ton, my trackball has started working just by cleaning

  • Thanks for the video, very helpful.

  • This is great! Worked out very well! thanks!

  • Thanks, your directions worked perfectly!!

  • you sir are a LIFE SAVER!

  • hi, can anyone tell me plz. u see when u turn the trackball out, there a sticker, does it need to be white or red.

becz red mean water damager, i dont really no, help plz

  • dave, this is an amazing video :) Im not sure why my torx t5 isnt able to get into the screw :s Can you confirm whether this is a Torx T5? I wanna apologize for this inconvinience to all others that have had it work.

  • THANK YOU BIG TIME

  • best video so far... ive looked for like 2 weeks for a good video with proper instructions... this got me with a table full of parts right now xD good job!

  • THANK YOU!!!

    I appreciate it!!

  • too hard :s

  • Followed your instructions. It works great! :) thanks! keep it up!

  • thanksssss

  • Thanks again to everyone leaving feedback!

  • @pcbsolution how long should it take to turn back on????

  • @pcbsolution hi, thanks for support, I do everthing like u show in the video, but, when it closed all I start on my bb and the process bar starting system is restart at 20% .. do u know probably what could be the problem ? thank u !

  • @pcbsolution

  • @pcbsolution very nice video thanks!

  • legend mate thanks alot x

  • thanks so much. followed every step and my trackball works great

  • Worked fine :) people day its complicated but its easy if you just watch how they come out to know how it goes back

  • Or you can just buy a new one for 3 bucks

  • That was good thank you!

  • I couldn't just pass by without saying thaaaaaaaank you :)

for the clear and extensive tutorial.

  • FUCK YOU MY BB DIE

  • so, i put it back together and it definately works in all directions now, but if i move the ball up, it goes right, down is left, right is down, and left is up. how did I do that??

  • @WFMKdancer Hmm i'm not sure, but if you take a look at the video from 4:00 to 4:10, it shows the way the 4 black things are supposed to lie in the track ball.

If you pretend each black/grey thing is an aarow, and the black part is the arrowhead, then the 4 arrows are supposed to go clockwise.

I'm guessing they are currently counter-clockwise in your trackball, which means they are positioned over the wrong sensors below.

Sorry for the poor explanation. Message me for a picture if necessary.

  • @WFMKdancer PCB solution is definately correct the rollers are the problem. If the four magnetic rollers (black things) are taken out and put back in facing the wrong direction the ball will work in reverse. I tried doing everything I could find in reverse as a test and the only thing that affected the direction of the "curser" was the direction of the rollers.

  • way too complicated

  • thank uuuuuuuu !!!!

  • thanks to everyone for the encouragement and compliments!

  • thank uuuuuuuu

  • Thanks for the detailed video. There were many other trackball replacement videos on the web but this was by far the clearest one. Kudos!

  • Bit of a pain that the Bold requires disassembly whereas the Curve does not. Anyway, I saw another video where instead of taking apart the trackball, they soaked it in 90% isopropyl or rubbing alcohol for two hours then let it air dry. That way you don't have to deal with those pesky magnetic rollers.

  • thank you very much man this video is the best!!!!

  • Good instructions man, have been thinking about cleaning the trackball. this made it really easy.

  • Comment removed

  • @ravihans15 yes I have. turns out it was the screw driver that was messed up so I ordered a new one from ebay and it worked like a charm :)

  • You've got nice hands and a nice voice, if DYI doesn't work out, you could consider posting lullabies (:

My father's a construction engineer and I've always been interested in being capable of fixing things and making them better on my own, even if I'm normally occupied with completely different stuff. I just wish nobody will ever catch my in my fancy dress with a screwdriver fixing someone's bathroom shelves because this is what I tend to do when a party gets lame for a moment.

  • So what about the small "pressure pad" that goes under the trackball, how is that "secured" to that surface area? I replaced my trackball but didn't replace the small pad and i want to know should i have done that as well?

  • LMFAO Theres this metal thing under the trackpad. It snapped off! -.- Anyways im gonna try re-assemble it and see if it still works lmfao.

  • Dave Ming Chang. Lol just wanted to say that.

  • Dave! You helped me fix my PHONE! The people at Rogers wanted me to buy a new one cause this is the 2nd phone this happened on! You're the best DAVE! Thanks for the awesome vid! Nice camera work!

  • my trackball dont want to go left so if i do this would it work??

  • Just wanted to say nice video. Will order a couple spare trackballs as I'm sure this will be a regular occurence, but will give the cleaning a go tomorrow as I too don't want to be without it for more time than needed!

Will have a look at your HDD vids as well as they sound interesting!

    Good job and thanks.

  • this is very useful video, thx guy so much

  • cuantos marañeros estarian viendo este video?

  • k one problem. two of my screws are completely worn out, how do take them out now??!! HELP ME!!!!!

  • @Luq24 normally i would say drill it out, but i guess blackberrys are too delicate for that. I suppose you can be very careful and drill it out? I think it will be risky.

  • @Luq24 Don't drill it out, get a thin screw driver you don't need and put some super glue on it, then put the head of the screw driver with the super glue on the screw and let it dry abit. Once dry, screw it out and replace the screw. You can get some screws for cheap off ebay (Torx T6)

  • @Luq24 did you get a solution for this problem? I have a couple worn out screws as well

  • you forgot a important piece that holds the track ball piece in place, look at the frame at 1:38..... the little silver piece, if you watch the video through, you wont see him put it back on.... just wanted to point it out for ya!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Luq24 melt the plastic around the screw

  • the video helped me ALOT i just need to buy a new trackball!! took it apart cleaned it and it was great!

  • I would be prepared to go nuts after you get it all apart. The small pieces were easy for me but the little POS bar right under the screen would not let me put the circuit board back in without a fight (in which my screen lost, with a hairline crack in the top right corner). Took a half hour to get it back into place.

  • Thanx!!! Is there any warranty seal that could break? if by any chance in the future I have to send the phone to get fix, can they tell I opened? Because they try to get you out of the warranty saying it is scrached, even worst if the find out I opnend.

    Thanx again!

  • @gonzMato To be honest, i'm not sure. It might void your warranty.

  • @gonzMato it does, there are two or three screws that need to be removed with a small piece of easily breakable tape covering them and the only way to take them off is to pierce the tape.

  • @gonzMato Yeah they can tell. Once you touch the screws the warranty's out.

  • THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hey dave i got a question for you how to you get the bold to turn on i hold the power button and it does not turn on is there any issues with that, that you know of thanks randy can you also email me back at amsoilpro@msn.com thanks man

  • @amsoilpro Hi randy, sorry I don't know why it won't turn on. The best I can think of is the battery is out, but that's probably not it...

  • Many Thanks It worked!

  • BEST VIDEO....THANKS ALOT

  • thanks for that help mate :))))00 good work

  • dude, what kind of screwdriver is that ? and the number ?

  • Thank Dude

  • thank you very much

  • Thank u!

  • great video. thank you!

  • Thanks! That was really helpful.

  • wow this video is amazin really you help me thanks!!!

  • man you saved me, cleand my trackball, no problems, thanks to you. A good tool also for this "operation" is a needle.

  • thanks for the help!

  • i looked at a lot of videos for this and this was the most helpful--thanks!

  • Great video, I was able to take the trackball apart, clean everything thoroughly (including the rollers which are a PAIN to put back in btw) and put it all back together with few problems. However, whereas before my trackball would frequently refuse to spin right, now it has the same problem but with spinning left! I really don't know what I did wrong or what's wrong with my trackball. Dammit this is the WORST design feature, optical mouse should have been used on the 9000.

  • @kingpupnyc i think its the trackball thats broken, and not the sensors, so I think you can just buy another trackball from eBay for example.

I agree, trackball is kind of annoying, I guess the price to pay for being able to scroll in any direction :(

  • @pcbsolution Yep I think my trackball was beyond help. I ordered a new one from the net but whilst waiting for it to arrive, my trackball just became totally unusable. I took it to the AT&T warranty store in New York and they said that they don't even deal with Bold trackballs, they don't have them in stock and they won't replace them. So I ended up having to go to a small phone repair shop and they sold me a new one for $20. Overpriced sure, but I was desperate. It's as good as new now!

  • Dave, have you ever encountered issues with scrolling UP (in my case) after I have taken apart the trackball and cleaned virtually every little component??

It's pissing me off because I can only scroll left, right, and down, but not UP!

I even made sure that all pins are pushed back into place.

In any case, this was an awesome video. Thanks!
