Thank you for posting this little treasure! I always wanted to me Mr Akerman and see is museum/house and I was very sad to here of his passing. Thank you for posting this.
I was very fortunate to visit both Ackermansions-a warmer gentleman was not to be found in L.A. or anywhere. I even got to sing at a banquet at his and Ray Harryhausen's honor. He was a week shy of 90 when I last saw him in his Los Feliz home. The Ackerman visits were my favorite parts of my LA trips and it's hard going back now that Forry has left. We love and miss him.
this man is a true inspiration for me im 23 and only found out about forry 2 years ago but since then iv began bulding a collection of books and magazines on horror and scifi the most recent is a replica of weird tales #1
I only now heard the news. I am greatly saddened to learn that Fory has departed our dimension. Ironically, my childhood might not have been so rosy had it not been for Famous Monsters and the escape it provided me. Both the man and the magazine have had a definite influence not only on me personally, but even my channel here at Youtube. Famous Monsters made me wish that every day was Halloween (or at least monster filled).
What can I say? Forrest is gone and the world is a poorer place, and we all died a little. This is a man who was SO instrumental in so much of our popular fantastic culture.
This is a guy who Rod serling went to when he couldn't remember a science fiction story - Forrest knew it.
What did/or will happen to all this great stuff? I know he moved out of the mansion and into a smaller house ... so what has he done to preserve this? Is there a film museum that could display it all? Be a shame for it to be lost.
I bought a book from the 'Garagemahal' in 'Horrorwood, Karloffornia' from a fellow on eBay a few years back. He detailed as to how FJA was downsizing and selling off items. Wish that I had bought more than only one. It included a printed thank you note from FJA.
How weird. He said "my lifemask when I was alive". I know it was a joke but with the net keeping everything around forever it will be true some day unfortunately.
im only 12 and i no a lot about forry and famous monsters, old things are so much scarryer like phyco by i forgot his name but hes called the master of suspense!
4SJ is the greatest. He is so important to TRUE fantasy/Sci Fi writers, Fans, Artists, Filmakers. The fact tha Harlan Ellison says he wishes him dead speaks volumes (with or without a mouth - loud or otherwise Ellison!)
YES! Mom and I were at the drugstore that fateful year and FM #4 was on the BOTTOM shelf, within easy reach. I begged and cajoled and made all manner of foolish promises of indentured servitude, filial love etc. until she parted with - thirty five cents! Tana Leaf Tea never tasted so good!
I agree with the first poster. Forry, through these magazines, was a huge influence on my life as a formative adult. To see a cover evokes a set of associations that little else can.
I owe a good chunk of my childhood to Forrest Ackerman. I was one of those LUCKY kids in the late 60's/early 70's who stumbled on Famous Monsters of Filmland. To this day, if I see a cover of a particular issue of that magazine, I can remember exactly what grade I was in, what I did that summer, etc....as good as a photo album! :)

RIP, Mr. Ackerman. You will be missed. (Mr. Ackerman's cameo was the only thing redeemable about the horrid "Future War" movie.)
The mansion is an absolute Mecca for anyone interested in sci-fi or horror.

He was an influencial man in the movie industry of today. An awesome man who had an aim in life to be a collector of fantasy.

Sorry, but I have news directly from the source - he's dying.

Yeah, I've heard that as well. Very sad, he's a fuckin' legend. There will never be another like Forry.

Mr. Ackerman was recently diagnosed with congestive heart failure at 92.

Don't count Forry out of the game, yet--he's fighting pneumonia, and while things don't look good, I would wait to posting an obituary.
