  • This movie is unbelievable! I have never seen a more logical and well-made movie in my life. Nolan is a mastermind, I don't know how he can make such amazing creations. I love how Nolan experiments with reality in his movies, but this movie just takes the cake completely. This movie is remarkable. Watch it.

  • Faker.

  • I remember watching it for the first time and all I could think of was "How is this gonna end? Can they pull it off? It better be good."

They did pull it off. Amazingly.

  • Still Nolan's best! Probably always will be.

  • 9:07 he has a tatoo saying ive done it and another reminding him that john G raped and murdered his wife even though shes lying with him? wtf does that mean?

  • @Kangarilla9323 Oh shit, never noticed that before.

  • @Kangarilla9323 I keep asking the same thing and no one can tell me.

  • @Kangarilla9323 He had already killed the 'real' John G before the events of the movie while his wife was still alive. The tattoo has since been removed and due to it being removed Leonard is unaware that he has already killed John G. Teddy uses Leonard to go around killing other John G's and takes advantage of his condition to kill drug dealers/criminals. (namely Jimmy G) Teddy is actually a cop and is Leonard's friend.

  • I've seen Inception, The Prestige, and the Dark Knight so I thought I was ready for whatever this movie had to throw at me....I was not ready lol.

  • I thought this was the beginning

  • @DrProctorDoesCoke I WAS JUST GONNA SAY THAT LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

  • did anyone else come here to try to make better sense of the ending?

  • 2:05

hmm exactly what that same guy does in the matrix :P

  • am i the only one who thinks shutter island kind of ripped off this ending?

  • @HostilePottery how?

  • I won't say Nolan is the best director working today but the man has built a great body of work in a relatively short amount of time. Its even more impressive considering his level of involvement in terms of script-writing and technical effects.

I think its hard to argue that noone is better at making larger, commercial films that can still appeal to "serious" film enthusiasts. To date, the Batman movies are the only superhero movies of interest to me.

  • PT Anderson I can agree with, but Aronofsky better than Nolan? Hardly....

For starters, I personally find Requiem for a Dream and Black Swan to both be highly overrated movies. I know Aronofsky likes to dabble in the surreal, but both those movies were buoyed by great singular performances.

You could make the same argument for the Wrestler as well - I found it to be a pretty standard redemption movie elevated by the awesome Rourke. As for the Fountain, great, grand ideas but what a messy film.

  • love this movie. remember sammy jenkins

  • Incredible film to watch stoned

  • 'Now, where was I?'

    What an ending!!

  • I have come to the conclusion that Christopher Nolan is the greatest director of this generation.

  • this movie intrigued me instantly [watched it on tv as clips of one of the 2002 academy award nominee] couldn’t seem to find it anywhere in my mind-fucking-forsaken country :-| had read the screenplay --n luv it-- yeeaaars before finally got it from a friend [that obviously had it downloaded from the internet..

then in the movie, i found a quote that fit my experience [in looking for this movie] perfectly: can't remember to forget you....

    soo glaad :-]

  • In Nolan We Trust

  • @1Minute60Seconds in Nolan we will always trust ^^

  • God I love how Teddy is actually Lenny's only friend.

When Lenny hits him: "LENNY! That shit kills!"

  • do i lie to myself to be happy...?? best quote

  • i just noticed for the first time in the scene where sammy jankis is in the mental care facility, you can see lenny 's face flash in place of sammy's for a few frames. totally awesome!

  • I think this movie leaves many possible interpretations that make complete sense. I mean, Teddy could be or not be John G.

  • Never gets old. A classic of the decade and one of the best ever made. For a film about memory loss its unforgettable.

  • this is the ending of this movie but this is the beginning of the story,, lol this movie is amazing

  • what a fucking epic movie ... i still tell friends that have never seen this to check it out - afterwards they are completely floored and thank me =D

  • The clues don't matter. That's not the point of the movie. There could be a thousand different variables, all of them false.

  • @ brianispurelove: Figth Club!

  • @Miamija Fight Club is david fincher.

  • @Nepveubrospictures Yeah but you have to remember that Natalie was probably a little upset that Lenny killed her husband and was driving around in his car and wearing his clothes. Although yes she was still a complete bitch.

  • WHAT THE FUUUUUCK. I wanted to see this movie SO bad, and the I found it on the internet. And it played it in chronological order. -.- I'm pissed.

  • 2:01-2:03 lol

  • 1. The Dark Knight Rises

    2. Memento

    3. Inception

    4. The Prestige

    5. batman Begins

    6. Insomnia

  • @thedeparted2006 the dark knight isn't on here? hmmmm

  • I love Joe Pantoliano's performance in this movie, he's perfect!

I had no clue that he was also Cypher in the Matrix until I looked it up on Wikipedia.

  • @Quikquik98 hes great in The Sopranos too as Ralphie

  • Every time I see this scene, I believe Teddy more and more.

  • @Crimelord2k10 Right, I keep watching the movie over and over for clues.

  • I don't care what you think of the movie, the ending? After about 8:40 is pure genius in every sense of the word.

  • I was doubtful about this movie bc it was about amnesia. But I feel dumb because it's more than that. In fact Christopher Nolans directing capabilities are so strong that he leaves you with that "somethings not right" feeling in the beginning just like how Leonard was in the movie about Natalie at one point

  • LENNY, THAT SHIT KILLS!! hahah lmao

  • The most EPIC ending in Hollywood!!!Love this movie!!!

  • Jesus christ, you idiots. If you don't get the story, look it up on wikipedia.

  • YOU ARE ALL IDIOTS TEDDY IS THE ONE WHO FUCKED HIS WIFE

  • @JAEGERSTER your one dumb motherfucker .. watch the movie again ... he set himself up to kill teddy .. nothing to do with his wife ... he even has a tatoo on his chest at 9:10 saying that he already killed jon g

  • @RGLoc1188 That tattoo could also be just his imagination... imagining that he would have that tattoo and be reunited with his wife after finally killing the attacker... if only he could remember doing it.

  • God dammit. Everyone here is missing the point. Look closely at when he's cuddling with his wife at the 9:10 mark. He has a tattoo saying that he killed the guy already. Is your mind blown?

  • @nickblattfilms so teddy was only trying to get the money? for a second i thought teddy was the one who raped her

  • my question is what does lenny do after killing teddy? now hes got teddy's license tatted onto his body. how is he gonna keep his false reality going?

  • Can someone explain the point of Natalie??

  • @RockingRobert23 she takes advantage of him and feels guilty afterward.

  • Respond to this video... as far as the narrative part goes, nolan used her character to show how bad lenny's memory problem was (where she spits in lenny's cup and makes him drink it is one example.)

  • One of the things i don't understand is the whole situation regarding Sammy. If he was a con-man/faker and he didn't have a wife, then who was it who showed up at Lenny's office that morning asking about Sammy's condition? Was that something he made up out of the blue to further disconnect himself from what he really did to his wife?

  • @Catmangamer

i think you might just have answered your own question, seeing that distorting your memory is one of the main themes in the movie...

  • The final five minutes of this movie and The Prestige are the biggest mindfucks I've ever watched.

  • Teddy was telling the truth. Why would he lie?

  • Do I lie to myself to be happy? In your case Teddy... yes I will.

  • I think I've seen this movie about 20 times and yet I keep finding new little things to make me think only a handful of truly masterpieces can do that

  • at 4:54 you can see him pointing to the place on his chest where his "I DID IT" tattoo should/will be. It's unclear whether he really got the tattoo...or if he was just imagining that he did in that flash...or if he had the tattoo removed so that he could still be on the mission to kill John G......but either way, this picture of himself raises a lot of questions. there's no leonard handwriting on the back or front of it, so instinctively, leonard doesn't want to trust it. such a good movie.

  • @jakemorask3 well, it was a blatant act in an attempt to call Sammy on his bluff.... which turned out to not be a bluff after all.

  • when does Grant say "Sammie?" or anything about Sammie? It seems like a whisper was thrown in during post @ 0:05 as an afterthought. dont get me wrong, i love the movie but that always confused me

  • @pathologicaldoubt

Yeah, he does say Sammy at 0:05, that's where Lenny realises that he killed the wrong guy -- he only tell people he meets and knows about Sammy, meaning, James F. Grantz wasn't the right John G.

  • LOL 1:03.

  • Leonard should have wrote down / tattoo'd to himself that he got the guy instead of going around killing John G's ..

  • Comment removed

  • god the very end always pisses me off lol

  • This was the single most mindfucking ending I ever saw. Twist after twist after twist...

  • @MrDrumzOrz watch old boy if you like mind fucks. its really fucked up too

  • @MrDrumzOrz have you seen inception or the prestige those are full of twist too

  • I feel like im missing something.. after teddy helped him kill the original guy why didn't he just get a tattoo that said he killed him? then he would be satisfied and wouldnt need to keep looking for a guy who was already dead

  • @mgmgrand15x For the same reason he got the license plate tattoo at the end. So he can always have a puzzle in order to find his wife's "killer". He does not really want to live with the truth.

  • @caesar7277 No he did it so that he would kill Teddy then after that he would be fine because he took a pitcture of it so then he would be done AND THIS MOVIE IS A MINDFUCK!

  • @chaseissuper I disagree brother, He KNOWS he killed John G already (the mega smile picture of him is proof). At that point he isn't satisfied, or else instead of writing down Teddy's license plate number he would have wrote down "I got John G, mission complete" or something like that. But your right, this movie is a mindfuck. Who knows, my interpretation is probably way off, that's just the way I see it.

  • @caesar7277 That's how I see it.

  • Joe Pantiliano is the Shit!!!

  • My favourite movie of all time!

  • What is the music called played during the "i have to believe" speech?

  • @ceberusbotcatcher Memento's Main theme LOL.

  • I have to believe in a world outside my own mind. I have to believe that my actions still have meaning, even if i cant remember them. I have to believe that when my eyes are closed, the world is still there. Do i believe the world is still there? Is it still out there? Yeah. We all need mirrors to remind ourselves who we are.. im not different.

One of the greatest quotes ever, and the music fits PERFECTLY.

  • RIP Larry Holden! (aka Jimmy Grants) :(

  • Christopher Nolan is a great director. One of the best. What few people might not know is that the beauty of his masterpieces comes from the great understanding he has with his family. His wife is the often the producer of the movies and his brother Johnathan Nolan who did the screenplay of movies like Memento, The Dark Knight and Prestige. It just goes to show you that family is the most important relationship in life.

  • Although I loved TDK and I thought the Prestige was magical, Memento just blows those right out of the park.

  • yah know, I kind of thought Teddy was telling the truth, but the only thing I don't get is this... Why would Lenny take Teddy's picture for the first time on the day he killed the drug dealer? Didn't Teddy tell him that they were working together for over a year?? Why would Lenny not take his picture until that day? Weird.

  • TOP NOLAN MOVIES:

    1 - Memento

    2 - Inception

    3 - The prestige

    4 - The dark knight

    5 - Batman begins

    6 - Insomnia

    All masterpieces.

    I haven't watched Following yet.

  • @brianispurelove Following rocks.

  • @brianispurelove

Calling Insomnia a masterpiece is just bullshit.

  • @brianispurelove Following is amazing.

  • @TheArcticJaguar7

    Yet to watch

  • Gamol - i gave you a reason to live, and you were more than happy to help .You dont want the truth, you make up your own truth. The key to all the answers!

  • Top Nolan movies

    1. Dark night

    2. Memento

    3. Inception

    4. Batman Begins

    5. The prestige

    6. Following

  • @KADG81 Yeah i also liked The Dark "KNIGHT"

  • @Jazeson

    ups

  • @KADG81

Memento, Dark Knight, Inception, Batman Begins, Insomnia, The Prestige.

Regardless, Nolan is an incredible director. I've always liked Memento since about grade 7 when I first saw it, (11 years ago), and then I was thinking about it today and realized that Nolan is the director of it. That just made it 10x better for me.

  • Oh my god!!!

first time i saw this film, i was lost..then i saw it a second time, i was like O_O, then the third time i watched Memento, my face melted off.

If perfect movies don't exist, well damn, this is the closest thing.

  • Memento, to me, will always be Nolan's best work. Yes, better than The Dark Knight and Inception. This film is just so incredibly amazing.

  • RIP Larry Holden :(

  • Okay SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT!

The second attacker is not Teddy. That is the twist of the film. It is up for speculation but I think Teddy was telling the truth. The second attacker was real, but they killed that person already 1 year before. Lenny forgot and Teddy sets up more John G's for him to kill.

Leonard figures this out and decides to end it. He sets up Teddy to be the final John G by writting his license plate. He takes a picture at the end so he can remember an be satisfied

  • @churchdudeman ..... Isnt that what all the disscussions have concluded at.

  • I'm confused wats going on

  • was the second attacker real or not?

  • Kind of like Shutter Island. But way better.

  • is it just me, or is EVERY single one of nolan's films flawless, perfect masterpieces?

  • @atomichead777 It's you

  • @atomichead777 nah its just you, i mean he made good films, but if he made flawless films, then he would be our new stanley kubrick alreaddy, but he isn't. or maybe our scorsese. but he isn't. what he is however is a dam good director

  • @malows1234 I do agree with you that Kubrik and Scorsese are amazing just not up to par with Nolan

  • @Nbohm8 not up to par with Nolan? is this some sort of a joke? so let me get this straight: you want to say that the guy who directed raging bull and taxi driver is not up to par with the guy who made a couple a great movies and blockbusters? kubrick made 2001, paths of glory, strangelove ,lolitha by the time he was 40. Nolan only made memento and prestige (MINUS the idiotic self aware ending) as his notable films. Dark knight was great but it will be remembered like indiana jones, not lawrence

  • @malows1234 Alright I phrased that bad, Kubrik and Scorsese are probably the two best directors of all time, but I'm trying to say is that Nolan is headed to the top

  • @Nbohm8 not really, kubrick and scorsese were the best directors of their generation. nolan is however outshined by paul thomas anderson, and aronofsky. he is a good director for sure. but there are many people better than him, if you want to get to the serious side of film.

  • @atomichead777 I wouldn't go so far as flawless.

Are they typically 8 billion times better written, and more interesting then about 98% of movies made, ever? Yep!

  • 8:35

  • You know what time it is? It's Beer O'Clock and I'm buying!

  • whats the song playing in the credits???

  • @boratcomic at the very end? only hear like 2 seconds of it? I know it is David Bowie.I'll have a look for the name of the song.

  • @sammyjenk1ns Thanks dude

  • @boratcomic David bowie "Something in the air"...No problem

  • love love love this soundtrack

  • if Leonard was really Sammy and killed his wife, then why would Teddy start telling the story he did at 4:04? So, Leonard's wife DID die in the attack. Unless Teddy's lying again.

Thanks for that mindfuck, Nolan -_-

  • @Nagitch she survived the attack but it was still rape and battery. so teddy/police got assigned to this case. following the attack leonard had his mental issues and eventually kills his wife with the insulin overdose. in order to justify his actions, lenny creates sammy (a real life fraud; one of lenny's clients) and accredits his own story to him. that's the clue to the events in the film... he would deliberately mislead himself to find meaning and purpose in his life.

  • Is this a drug deal?

    NO!...yeah, that and your thing.

  • Awesome film, I have seen it twice and I still scratch my head at some moments, lol

  • "You know, I'd rather be mistaken for a dead guy than a killer" - Epic quote, epic story, epic film.

  • i dunno, at the whole the guy's a moron, why don't just keeping a little book with him?

  • this guy is too consumed with revenge

  • classic

  • Mind is full of Fucks and Pant are full of Bricks

  • For some reason I just don't like Joe Pantoliano's acting here. There's nothing that's glaringly wrong or off about it, but the performance feels amateurish. And yes, I'm ready to be flamed.

  • @drewsky684 i actually agree with you, the movie with another actor would be totally awesome, while here its like "ok, the scripts so good we dont need superb attention to acting"

  • memento, the prestige, inception. christopher nolan has made a regular habit of creating movies with mind-blowing plot lines. this man is truly one of the greatest directors of our time.

  • i disagree with rabino because i dont believe sammy was lenny i do think that he was in a mental institution because of the memory problem and that his life ended up the way sammy life was deja vu...when person experiences the feeling that they have seen, experienced, or been someplace before even when they are sure that that is not really true. so i believe that lenny's wife was murdered that sammy story helps him to understand that he cant feel time but his memory needs revenge, kill john g

  • I think Teddy is the one who killed his wife.

Think about it, so much of what we consider the truth comes from him. But over the course of the movie, he's proven himself a liar.

This movie is so open-ended it's crazy.

  • @insertclevername14 naht really.

  • @insertclevername14 well not really Teddy was not the killer at all Lenny did kill John.G but it would not stick in his memory so teddy used this to his advanage and had lenny kill all these drug dealers making him think they were John.G and thats the reason Lenny killed Teddy because Teddy was doing this

  • @delta2ish well that is is the truth if you belive what Teddy said but if he is lying like he proved us he can, well your explanation cant be the entire truth.Beliving that Teddy is the killer make sense (cuz he is call John G. and it is not like everyone name is John G.).Beliving that Lenny is a cerial killer is fine too ,beliving that Lenny is just crazy is fine too , beliving that Lenny can create new memories if he really wants is ok too...SO MANY EXPLANATIONS U KNOW

  • @rabino999 :P no lenny in that scene know she has already killed John.G but what he also knows is that teddy was sending him to find John.G but he is using him to kill other drug dealers so lenny is now giving himself an adventure to kill Teddy making himself to believe that he is john.G

  • @delta2ish dude you are right ! but that is only only true if Teddy is telling the truth he could be telling a big lie... cuz we cant be sure his wife is diabetic or not , so can we tell if he was sammy jenkins or if the story told by Teddy is true....no

  • @rabino999 The twist of this movie is that after all this time we see black and white sequances about sammy jankins and his story. What we can conclude is that Sammy Jenkings is not real he is a myth. But Teddy told Lenny that John.G was Jimmy the drug dealer. So Teddy has lied about many things but about Lenny's wife being diabatic is true as we see Lenny in a number of scenes burning a page from his file.

  • @rabino999 What we can conclude though is that Teddy is not lying but using Lenny but after all this about sammy and his wife its acuttly the story of Lenny and his wife cutting out alot of details from that story too. Lenny is Sammy, Sammy is Lenny, Teddy is not a killer at all but he is fucking with Lenny, Therefore Lenny shall give his life another reason to make himself believe John.G is the killer

  • @delta2ish i do believe that his wife was murdered, that lenny got help with finding the other killer thru a dirty cop but this cop was using lenny for so long by making lenny think that john g is the drug dealers teddy been dealing with. i do believe that he told the truth about killing john g as lenny created but he didnt remember. so what does lenny do ? he gives his life meaning because remember how can a person move on if he can't feel time. so he kills teddy and he got his revenge.

  • @delta2ish Nevermind dude you just cant understand my point just nevermind

  • My mother calls me Teddy

  • some of the best acting ever....

  • @Chimaira2689 acuttly the middle :P

  • Thanx...

  • And obviously ,when his number was checked-it was the same number plate number. So at the end of the day L shot the guy,who was wit him from the beginning..

  • and also, the "ive done it" tattoo, you dont think much of it. but that tattoo isnt there for the entire movie. it doesnt make sense WHATSOEVER to finally be on his pec? whats with that? he said he was gonna save it for when he kills john g. , and his wife is still there? that shot is literally impossible.

  • @Dempseyboi8 Nolan has got everyone mind fucked in each of his movies. Best just to relax and accept that your mind has been out done and completely fucked over by Christopher

  • Hi,at which part is "i ve done it" tattoo showed?Missed it.In any case,i think we guys got carried away.We focused on how he killed T,and forgot couple things:as much as repetitions were tried(electric shock test) it didn't stick. He got car number just after he saw T(last scene). And T was nothing but a crooced cop,who-after helping L,decided to make some cash, cause next morning L didn't remember shooting anyone. And finnaly-there are thousands of J.G.(Teddy himself)

  • @mokytojas pause at 9:09 and thats the shot im talking about with the "ive done it"

  • technically this is the middle....lol

  • Is the track from 6:20 onwards on the soundtracK?

  • Incredible score by Juylan

  • Undeniably a landmark film for showing the fragility and importance of memory, a vital function to the human mind and soul like never before. Life almost entirely depends on what we had experienced in the past to keep us going through the present which will determine our future. This explores a man who is stuck permanently with old thoughts, disconnected from the world trying to connect, give him a ultimate purpose to his life to keep going. Aren't we all like that more or less?

  • @acomerla21 Hey, you posted the exact same comment on another "memento" vid. XD

  • @acomerla21 Are you so desperate for attention that you post this comment on every "Memento" video?

  • @acomerla21 Gee...looks like the same exact comment you put on another video...

  • While you're watching this your mind can't comprehend the complete mindfuck going on, but thinking about it afterwards, you wonder why the fuck you didn't think about it before!!!

  • the indian movie ghajini was way better
