It probably works with others as well, but there's virtually no chance of getting another one up there, since they explode so quickly. I'm sure it would work with a cork box, though.
I'm pretty sure it will only work with that bob-omb, because it has no movement unlike the other bob-ombs. Try to pick it up jump and press z, now it will be hanging in mid-air. Also if you let it blow and jump over the big hole to make another one spawn, it will be a normal bob-omb which you can't get stuck in the wall.

interesting. I did so, but when i grabbed the bombomb it grew as if it were about to be cloned, then blew up.

I've known for a while that its a weird bob-omb that one, but i've never seen it getting stuck in the wall =D..
Btw you can also get the small boxes stuck in the wall like that, I can make video if nessesary...
