@cartooncam99 Well since I haven't seen much of the movie I can't really say, but what I've gathered is that the house is just manifesting his fears, one of his worst being if his son gets hurt so it goes after his son a lot. I don't think it can or wants to kill him, but then again "Big Ben" tried to cut off his hand and possibly other things I haven't seen yet. I think the Gargoyle was just trying to knock him down, which he succeeded in doing by shooting the rope.

Yeah, the movie itself isn't really scary...but the story behind it is actually pretty cool. It's like a psychological horror story more than anything. The guy is basically dealing with his own personal demons from war that are brought out through the house.

Same here. As a child, this whole movie was incomprehensibly terrifying to me. While I saw Evil Dead 2 (a very similar mixture of horror and comedy) around the the same time, I wasn't particulary scared or disturbed by it as much as House.
