Great job blending the dialogue, scenes, music, sound effects, camera shots and themes together! How long did it take you to edit this? Where you going for visual continuity or thematic or both?
And for all those Michael bay haters....his specialty is action. He is very good at it. His place in the movie world is to enertain in a highly visual and energetic way.
@tiberiius It took me a couple of weeks, I believe. To answer your question, it was definitely a mix of the two. Tying shots together in a way that felt right, also exploring the pervasive theme of obsession.
Christopher Nolan is one of the most overrated directors of our generation. His films are the definition of style over substance, and yet not even his style is unique or even coherent.
@calmsnowfall I disagree. You could make that argument for Memento and The Prestige (saying they are based on gimmicks and tricking the audience), but I genuinely believe that Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and Inception possess substance. The Batman movies are great as an examination of psychology, morality, and crime. Inception is a movie I will never be able to rave enough about because it questions what we truly know and how it is distinguishable from what we feel.
I have a feeling that in 15-20 years from now,we will talk about Nolan with the same way we do about De Palma or Scorcese.Very possible.Every director that came in this job with something new,fresh,stayed....
Wow, this was an excellent montage. And to think, you can also add clips from Inception and Following, and in 2012 clips from The Dark Knight Rises. Nolan is my favorite director, he's incredible! Fave film is a toss-up between Inception and Memento
This video will be updated with "Following" and "Inception" when MacBook Pros start growing on trees. I don't want to half-ass it. Rest assured, it will be worth the wait.
he s an awesome director with raw directing talent & complex script which makes audience to think... i ve watched all his movies including "doodlebug" short movie. i liked INCEPTION
The Prestige is his best imo. Best editing ever. It jumps all over the place but you don't even notice - it just flows along intricately but naturally. How that was achieved I do not know.
@KINGJADEX Snyder?!? his name is quite out of place among directors such as Burton and Nolan... Cameron is acceptable if we consider pre-Titanic era.
@slaskrevenge Snyder may only have a few films but, one was one of the best horror remakes of all time (Dawn of the Dead), one was an epic story that no one had ever seen before (300), one was a badass character study of fsome super heroes in the 1980's, and in one he was able to make fucking owls badass and the animation looked so real (Owls of Ga'hoole: Legend of the Gaurdians)! And his Unreleased film Suckerpunch looks like a really fun movie with kick ass fight scenes.
@KINGJADEX romero movies didn't need remakes.. 300 is epic?!? C'mon, rallenty + SPARTAAAAAAA + gallons of blood and CGI... that is not epic, that is vulgar videoclip-style, Snyder should be directing tv spots... as for Watchmen, maybe you haven't read the original comic, do it and see that there's nothing left of the brilliant source. But your frequent use of the word "badass" makes me think that you just want that from movies. Personally I want more..
I love the movie Inception...it was really great, it's a very original piece of work... and so I started to search for other works of Nolan and found out that most of his films that I've watched were those films that really stuck with my memories...movies like Memento and Dark Knight... I already am a fan of his creativity... ^-^
There's more to Nolan than just making films. It's too early to compare him to Kubrick or Hitchcock, but the movies he has made so far seem to point to an artist trying to get a message out. Nolan seems to mix the profound into his block busters, he sure isn't a Michael Bay, put it that way. 4 of his movies have left me thinking 'there's more to that than meets the eye, that's too many to be a coinsidence. He's a great film maker and I can't see what he does next.
Well done. Excellent review of the correlations of his work. So full of nuance and intricacy... he really is a visionary. Nolan is quickly becoming one of my favorite directors. Good tribute to his work.
Wow that was fuckin' amazing! You do a Nolan proud tribute! I hope they make the next batman villain simliar to Robin William's character in Insomnia. Where he calls and harrassess Bruce Wayne at his home or in some hotel where he's hiding out at.
Have you seen Insomnia? Those were the best scenes. It also seems like it would fit into the storyline where people are trying to figure out Batman really is. What better way to do it than by phone calls in some dark room? Or make it resemble the black and white phone scenes from Memento. Maybe the Riddler can be the guy who calls Batman? Or maybe as a way to keep the Joker in the story. I'm sure someone can do a good Heath Joker type voice?
@Joe22c No, that's right. Don't worry about people - they're generally wrong. I'm going as far as 'Batman Begins' being better than 'The Dark Knight', which was still better than The Prestige, which was better than Insomnia but not as good as The Following, which was bested by Memento, which was better than ALL of those films and just as good as Inception ... a Masterpiece.
@Raymint i also enjoyed batman begins more than the dark knight (excessive hype anyone?) I wanted to see a great movie, not only a nice performance by heath as joker and an uninteresting aaron eckhart character
@NaruMaiden wtf?? Eckhart was SUPERB, his character is probably the best in the whole movie. And no, Joker isn't the protagonist of The Dark Knight. Begins is great, but TDK is EPIC.
@slaskrevenge meh, opinions opinions... I didn't like TDK because I wanted a superhero movie with batman, not a "crime thriller", and I actually think Snyder is better than Burton, freaking awesome Watchmen adaptation, Burton? Alice in Wonderland bored me.
@NaruMaiden well, I think we should thank mr. Nolan for giving us MORE than just a normal superhero movie (is batman a "superhero"? I think no). Watchmen is awesome?? Did u read the comic book? If yes I don't understand why you like that mixture of martial arts, slow-motion and awful costumes... AiW was bad,I know that, but I think movies like Sweeney Todd, Edward Scissorhands, the 2 Batman and Big Fish are much better than 300 or WM..
@slaskrevenge I didn't say it in the tone of "ZOMG WATCHMEN IS FREAKING AWESOME I LUV IT!!!!11", I did some research before watching the film and I know it's a great graphic novel, original fans of the comic loved the film. Awful costumes? They placed nipples on them to 'parody' Batman and Robin. I feel Snyder is better because he's created enjoyable films with orgasmic visuals, even if they were only a few. Sadly all he's done til today are only adaptations....
@NaruMaiden I give u an advice: read the comic book. Really, do it and then come back here and try to say that Snyder did a good job. As for the original fans, i don't think they actually loved it.. Alan Moore's work was brilliant, elegant and sophisticated (and Gibbons' pictures too), 300 was fine because the comic book is non stop action with no plot, Snyder's good for that, but not for clever stories.
The costumes were ridicolous because they were the opposite of the ones in the comic.
@slaskrevenge Yeah I'll possibly check the Watchmen comic if I find it. BTW Snyder as the director of The Man of Steel?? Wonder how this will turn out.
@NaruMaiden for now i think complaining won't be useful. I can just hope mr. Snyder, under the guide of Nolan and Goyer will try to improve his directing and focus on the essence of the story he has to tell, not just the look of the movie...
with superman he must forget what he has done with the previous comic book.
Excellent, EXCELLENT video! Very well done. The music, the dialogue, and the images fit absolutely perfectly. Christopher Nolan is one of my favorite directors. I have seen all of his films so far, and they are amazing, exhilarating, mind challenging, and thought provoking. I remember going to the theatre to see Memento for the 1st time. I was blown away by it's unique story telling and tone of the film. I was thinking to myself, the guy is going to very far in the industry.
@victor1174 Prestige you must watch several times to fully appreciate it. love the movie and I plan to read the book it was based on. Christian bale hugh jackman michael caine andy serkis and david bowie. hell of a cast and an amazing plot and twist as well.
I'm a sap for great films. I love watching good movies, and I have seen 5 out of the 6 films that Mr. Nolan has directed. To me, Nolan is in the hall of fame as one of the greatest directors of all time (amongst gods like hitchcock, scorsese, etc). I often think to myself and say "gosh...this guy is only 38 years old...hitchcock was directing films until he died in 1980, over 5 decades of movies. It makes me wonder about how many more great films this director will make in the future...
yeah i totally agree that he shd direct a bond film. he would b perfect for it.
but b4 that, first things first. This guy & bruce wayne have an unfinished business. lol. v r eagerly waitin 4 a Batman 3 plz :) to give a masterpiece of a trilogy to the world.
& dis video was very well edited but i wanted more cool n motivatin dialogues from his movies n less music in it...
@pnt28 I completely agree with you about Nolan doing a Bond film and about Batman. In fact, he had even said that it is one of his childhood dreams to direct one a Bond movie.
Batman Begins, The Prestige and The Dark Knight are some of my favorite films. Until I saw Batman Begins I hated Batman because all I ever saw of him was from that other film which... shouldn't be named.
i highly encourage you to watch memento. it is the better than the batman films in my opinion. In the short time since i have watched it, it has become one of my top 5 favorite movies of all time and is film that you will want to eatch again as soon as it's over.
Totally agree. I love TDK and BB but man, Memento is just completely flawless. It's my favorite movie at the moment followed by Fight Club and Following.
Christopher Nolan is among the most talented and brilliant directors of his generation. I don't know much about film, but I find his work heavily influenced by S. Kubrick, Ridley Scott and Michael Mann. I must tell you that you have a lot of talent as an editor, this is a very good piece of film, congratulations. Now, let's wait for another of Nolan masterpieces.
The piece focuses chiefly on the personal journeys and obsessions of Nolan's protagonists, so there wasn't quite room for a focus on his villains, et all. But since I'm interested in revisiting this, I might expand on the peripheral characters. We'll see.
An excellent tribute! Yeah, there could have been a bit more of some of the actors (but of course sometimes there just isn't enough space;). But still, 5/5!
Its just a shame that Michael Caine was never seen in the video. Hes worked with Nolan on 3 different films. More of Heath Ledger, Robin Williams, David Bowie and Gary Oldman would have been cool too. Still a fantastic video. 5 stars.
nolan is a living legend....never takes his audience for granted.....works out fantastic plots....creates masterpieces out of topics never even thought of!
Great editing. 5 of the best films I have ever seen. Chris Nolan likes to work with the Aussies doesnt he. Hugh Jackman, Guy Pierce and Heath Ledger, most notabley. I'm an Aussie actor.... and I really hope I have the honor of working with him some day.
Im not gonna insult man, don't worry. It is my belief that Nolan is a few notches above Fincher. First of all, he always writes or co-writes the scripts of his films, which are always very intelligent.
Memento - mindbolwingly excellent film.
Insomnia - very good thriller
Batman Begins - excellent superhero movie, different from the rest for its realistic approach.
Well, thank you for the response (and also for keeping your response civil). But now I have something new to contrast and compare. Bringing no other films or filmmakers into the discussion...The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button is far better than The Dark Knight. Both are very well made, and both made you forget that you were watching something very fictional because of how it makes you take the subject matter so seriously. Both were handled with care too, but...
But I waited the entire time I was, not just watching, but witnessing the process that Fincher went through to make Benjamin Button with every skill that he could use with all caution and consideration of what is necessary and what is, in fact, unnecessary. The point being is that Benjamin Button as a film never takes a misstep and never makes a false move. And it makes a much clearer commentary of life than "Synecdoche, New York" ever hoped to make.
Once again, I appreciate the fact that you were able to discuss the differences between Nolan and Fincher. And once again, thank you for that. But now the discussion is between, not two filmmakers, but two specific films. And The Dark Knight is nowhere near as great as Benjamin Button actually is. There's a big difference in hoping that the Best Picture of 2008 is The Dark Knight, and knowing that there is no better film released this year other than The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button.
By the way, I just wanted to add that I am only willing to talk about this if you have seen both Dark Knight and Benjamin Button, because one thing that they do have very much in common is that you can't see all of their greatness in the advertising alone. By the way, let it be known that I am getting very annoyed by the character count. It's "good" to know that the freedom of expression online has a timer on it.
The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button. Go see it. Ignore the advertising that says that Valkerie is "the reason why you go to the movies". That review is misplaced and it belongs to David Fincher's pitch-perfect masterpiece that actually deserves the credit of masterpiece. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it and I never wanted it to end (and not a lot of films have had that affect on me). Sorry about this comment, by the way. I just had to get it out of my system.
Fight Club - interesting but ultimately dissapointing TO ME. It has its great moments, but to me it just does not work (i know im in the minority here)
Zodiac - good. This is my opinion, and also the truth.
Good work. I'm a big fan of Nolan. I like that he showed Jacobs Ladder to his DP for Memento, and made David Julyan listen to the Thin Red Line soundtrack for inspiration. Also, using Analyse for the credits of Prestige, just works perfectly, I always associate the two together now. He has great taste. But good work here, thanks.
Let's start a riot. David Fincher is a better director than Christopher Nolan. And Benjamin Button is the serious competition that Dark Knight was looking for (just a passing thought).
Sorry. Bad choice of words. I'm not looking to fight anyone, and not even especially you. My post does not take back any previous statements that I had made for you and your respectful vid here. As far as the 2nd statement Best Picture-wise...I do think that TDK should be taken seriously as film and not just flick, but I'm also saying Benjamin is the only competition (aside from Revolutionary Road and Milk). I thought it would be interesting to discuss similarities in Nolan and Fincher films.
I have no idea about what specifically? What are your specific reasons for your own opinion? By the way, please be civilized about responding if you're able. I gave my word that I wouldn't fight about it.
i bloodly love nolan, i think is strength as a director is definitly in his scriptwriting. has anyone here seen his 1998 film following? its another interesting watch
You did an aamzing job with this video. Especially the quotes at the end you truly captured the art of Nolan. I wish there was some Following and more Dark Knight maybe when it comes out on dvd...
Yeah true, but as long as your next video tribute has ALL of his films then it'll be considered a masterpiece of a tribute. You've got the editing grace of Dody Dorn, mate.
Beautiful, amazing editing! I know I'm just restating what everyone's been saying to you, but, to put it in one word, wow. I especially like the bit at the end, with the quotes.
I can't put in words how much I really love this video. Nice job!
My other gripe is the video quality isn't great in certain places. I know it's youtube and video quality is never great, but hopefully you could do a touchup someday? You've inspired me to do my own Nolan tribute. Seriously mate, excellent editing and sound mixing. Once you add Following to the video it'll be a good 5 stars. Awesome, awesome stuff. Nolan is the ulimate showman. It's his world.
Ahh ok. Well you can buy it on Amazon. It's really cheap. But yeah, it is generally a hard find if you're not using internet access. But you've done a great job and i'm going to do my best to promote this video as I feel it deserves to be seen by people who respect this man. And by respect I don't mean the Batman fanboys who only care about Begins and TDK, but people who understand Nolan's authorship.
Ok, I am at a lost for words. I lot of hyperbole is used to describe videos that people like on youtube, but this...and I sincerely mean this...this is outstanding. You captured Nolan's authorship and recurring themes with ease. Loved the music choices too, though I was hoping you would stick out that 'Analyse'for a little bit longer. My only gripes with this is the absent 'Following' clips. I don't know why you didnt include that film in your montage as it's an essential Nolan film. 4 stars
jesus christ!, you don't have to see batman begins or the dark knight, only by taking a look at old memento you can see that Christopher Nolan is probably the most talented filmmaker alive.
Hey just wondering what programs you used to chop down the footage and edit it together. I have all of Nolans films and am doing a project on him for my Film Studies course next year and was looking to do a video similar to this to open the presentation.
I'm glad I'm the first to comment and say well done. I am so glad that you have a knack for momentum and focus (on all of Nolan's films, not just Batman). The only thing I could say against (and it's not a big deal considering how much time it must've taken to make) I kinda wish it was clearer though and not so much of the YouTube pixelated blur. But no harm and no foul okay. It is very very well put together from start to finish (and I loved the finish).
this is really good. especially from 3:55 onward, the music with the scenes and the transitions between them are very smooth.

@901Louis:
Roguemember 2 years ago
Insomnia = Nolan's most underrated film imo, and I wouldn't mind Robin Williams as the next Riddler
beetlejuice8892 2 years ago 4
Christopher Nolan has a truly enviable and amazing reputation.
Now for a comment that will be less universally agreed upon:
I actually enjoyed Memento more than the Dark Knight.
Joe22c 2 years ago 55
@Joe22c No, that's right. Don't worry about people - they're generally wrong. I'm going as far as 'Batman Begins' being better than 'The Dark Knight', which was still better than The Prestige, which was better than Insomnia but not as good as The Following, which was bested by Memento, which was better than ALL of those films and just as good as Inception ... a Masterpiece.
Raymint 1 year ago
@Raymint i also enjoyed batman begins more than the dark knight (excessive hype anyone?) I wanted to see a great movie, not only a nice performance by heath as joker and an uninteresting aaron eckhart character
NaruMaiden 1 year ago
@NaruMaiden wtf?? Eckhart was SUPERB, his character is probably the best in the whole movie. And no, Joker isn't the protagonist of The Dark Knight. Begins is great, but TDK is EPIC.
slaskrevenge 1 year ago
@slaskrevenge meh, opinions opinions... I didn't like TDK because I wanted a superhero movie with batman, not a "crime thriller", and I actually think Snyder is better than Burton, freaking awesome Watchmen adaptation, Burton? Alice in Wonderland bored me.
NaruMaiden 1 year ago
@NaruMaiden well, I think we should thank mr. Nolan for giving us MORE than just a normal superhero movie (is batman a "superhero"? I think no). Watchmen is awesome?? Did u read the comic book? If yes I don't understand why you like that mixture of martial arts, slow-motion and awful costumes... AiW was bad,I know that, but I think movies like Sweeney Todd, Edward Scissorhands, the 2 Batman and Big Fish are much better than 300 or WM..
slaskrevenge 1 year ago
@slaskrevenge I didn't say it in the tone of "ZOMG WATCHMEN IS FREAKING AWESOME I LUV IT!!!!11", I did some research before watching the film and I know it's a great graphic novel, original fans of the comic loved the film. Awful costumes? They placed nipples on them to 'parody' Batman and Robin. I feel Snyder is better because he's created enjoyable films with orgasmic visuals, even if they were only a few. Sadly all he's done til today are only adaptations....
NaruMaiden 1 year ago
@NaruMaiden I give u an advice: read the comic book. Really, do it and then come back here and try to say that Snyder did a good job. As for the original fans, i don't think they actually loved it.. Alan Moore's work was brilliant, elegant and sophisticated (and Gibbons' pictures too), 300 was fine because the comic book is non stop action with no plot, Snyder's good for that, but not for clever stories.
The costumes were ridicolous because they were the opposite of the ones in the comic.
slaskrevenge 1 year ago
@slaskrevenge Yeah I'll possibly check the Watchmen comic if I find it. BTW Snyder as the director of The Man of Steel?? Wonder how this will turn out.
NaruMaiden 1 year ago
@NaruMaiden for now i think complaining won't be useful. I can just hope mr. Snyder, under the guide of Nolan and Goyer will try to improve his directing and focus on the essence of the story he has to tell, not just the look of the movie...
with superman he must forget what he has done with the previous comic book.
slaskrevenge 1 year ago
@Joe22c I completely agree. Memento is still his signature film. And as much as The Dark Knight is entertaining, it will never be Memento

Netherfist 2 years ago 3
I would say this, but I think you have to wait to have more movies before you have become a great. However, he is my favourite director.
fadetoblack22 2 years ago 4
Christopher Nolan along with the fact that he is from England should definitly direct the next James Bond movie.
God save the Queen.
gelimer 2 years ago 5
yeah i totally agree that he shd direct a bond film. he would b perfect for it.
but b4 that, first things first. This guy & bruce wayne have an unfinished business. lol. v r eagerly waitin 4 a Batman 3 plz :) to give a masterpiece of a trilogy to the world.
& dis video was very well edited but i wanted more cool n motivatin dialogues from his movies n less music in it...
pnt28 2 years ago 3
@pnt28 I completely agree with you about Nolan doing a Bond film and about Batman. In fact, he had even said that it is one of his childhood dreams to direct one a Bond movie.

Batman Begins, The Prestige and The Dark Knight are some of my favorite films. Until I saw Batman Begins I hated Batman because all I ever saw of him was from that other film which... shouldn't be named.
darthnazgul 2 years ago 3
i highly encourage you to watch memento. it is the better than the batman films in my opinion. In the short time since i have watched it, it has become one of my top 5 favorite movies of all time and is film that you will want to eatch again as soon as it's over.
rdub1050 2 years ago 4
Totally agree. I love TDK and BB but man, Memento is just completely flawless. It's my favorite movie at the moment followed by Fight Club and Following.

and your editing was grade A..you have just inspired me

Christopher Nolan is among the most talented and brilliant directors of his generation. I don't know much about film, but I find his work heavily influenced by S. Kubrick, Ridley Scott and Michael Mann. I must tell you that you have a lot of talent as an editor, this is a very good piece of film, congratulations. Now, let's wait for another of Nolan masterpieces.
willyjoel 3 years ago 3
Hmm, I couldn´t see the analyse.
DaveMcIroy 3 years ago
The piece focuses chiefly on the personal journeys and obsessions of Nolan's protagonists, so there wasn't quite room for a focus on his villains, et all. But since I'm interested in revisiting this, I might expand on the peripheral characters. We'll see.
LogicHat 3 years ago
An excellent tribute! Yeah, there could have been a bit more of some of the actors (but of course sometimes there just isn't enough space;). But still, 5/5!
PennywiseMania 3 years ago
Its just a shame that Michael Caine was never seen in the video. Hes worked with Nolan on 3 different films. More of Heath Ledger, Robin Williams, David Bowie and Gary Oldman would have been cool too. Still a fantastic video. 5 stars.

ImAManOfMyWord 3 years ago
this little music video just reminds me of how well written Memento was.
AnimeIntroStyles3 3 years ago
His films are always complex, often dark, and very intelligent scripted.
sacon05 3 years ago 5
Im not gonna insult man, don't worry. It is my belief that Nolan is a few notches above Fincher. First of all, he always writes or co-writes the scripts of his films, which are always very intelligent.
Memento - mindbolwingly excellent film.
Insomnia - very good thriller
Batman Begins - excellent superhero movie, different from the rest for its realistic approach.
The Prestige - brilliant film
Dark Knight - another excelent batman film.
sacon05 3 years ago
Well, thank you for the response (and also for keeping your response civil). But now I have something new to contrast and compare. Bringing no other films or filmmakers into the discussion...The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button is far better than The Dark Knight. Both are very well made, and both made you forget that you were watching something very fictional because of how it makes you take the subject matter so seriously. Both were handled with care too, but...
preacherton 3 years ago
But I waited the entire time I was, not just watching, but witnessing the process that Fincher went through to make Benjamin Button with every skill that he could use with all caution and consideration of what is necessary and what is, in fact, unnecessary. The point being is that Benjamin Button as a film never takes a misstep and never makes a false move. And it makes a much clearer commentary of life than "Synecdoche, New York" ever hoped to make.
preacherton 3 years ago
Once again, I appreciate the fact that you were able to discuss the differences between Nolan and Fincher. And once again, thank you for that. But now the discussion is between, not two filmmakers, but two specific films. And The Dark Knight is nowhere near as great as Benjamin Button actually is. There's a big difference in hoping that the Best Picture of 2008 is The Dark Knight, and knowing that there is no better film released this year other than The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button.
preacherton 3 years ago
By the way, I just wanted to add that I am only willing to talk about this if you have seen both Dark Knight and Benjamin Button, because one thing that they do have very much in common is that you can't see all of their greatness in the advertising alone. By the way, let it be known that I am getting very annoyed by the character count. It's "good" to know that the freedom of expression online has a timer on it.
preacherton 3 years ago
The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button. Go see it. Ignore the advertising that says that Valkerie is "the reason why you go to the movies". That review is misplaced and it belongs to David Fincher's pitch-perfect masterpiece that actually deserves the credit of masterpiece. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it and I never wanted it to end (and not a lot of films have had that affect on me). Sorry about this comment, by the way. I just had to get it out of my system.
preacherton 3 years ago
Fincher's films (he does not write his scripts):
Alien 3 - good
Se7en - actually this is a great movie to me.
Panic Room - mediocre film. Just good.
Fight Club - interesting but ultimately dissapointing TO ME. It has its great moments, but to me it just does not work (i know im in the minority here)
Zodiac - good. This is my opinion, and also the truth.
Bring it on baby! LOL, just kidding. Cheers.
sacon05 3 years ago
But good work here, thanks.
wearerabbits 3 years ago 2
Not to mention screening "Blade Runner" for his "Begins" cast and crew, saying "THIS is how we're going to make Batman."
LogicHat 3 years ago
how did he edit those movie scenes. i mean using which software?
mahor1987 1 year ago
Let's start a riot. David Fincher is a better director than Christopher Nolan. And Benjamin Button is the serious competition that Dark Knight was looking for (just a passing thought).
preacherton 3 years ago
Considering the mediocre buzz BB is receiving, I'm not so sure about that second assessment.
As for the first, eh, I dunno.
Please avoid any actual drama, by the way. I reserve the right to delete nasty comments.
LogicHat 3 years ago
I thought it would be interesting to discuss similarities in Nolan and Fincher films.
preacherton 3 years ago
barringer82 posted his Fincher tribute. That gives us something to compare and contrast.

Are you kidding me???!!! Fincher better than Nolan? You have no idea

I have no idea about what specifically? What are your specific reasons for your own opinion? By the way, please be civilized about responding if you're able. I gave my word that I wouldn't fight about it.

You did an aamzing job with this video. Especially the quotes at the end you truly captured the art of Nolan. I wish there was some Following and more Dark Knight maybe when it comes out on dvd...
manoffaith108 3 years ago 4
Oh, I'm gonna have FUN when that DVD comes out. I'll try to limit myself to just a couple video tributes. No need to overkill it.
LogicHat 3 years ago
Yeah true, but as long as your next video tribute has ALL of his films then it'll be considered a masterpiece of a tribute. You've got the editing grace of Dody Dorn, mate.
TheDarkKnight1985 3 years ago
Beautiful, amazing editing! I know I'm just restating what everyone's been saying to you, but, to put it in one word, wow. I especially like the bit at the end, with the quotes.

TheDarkKnight1985 3 years ago
Glad you liked it. As I stated in the clip description, I had a difficult time trying to track down "Following" on DVD.
iMovie was the main culprit for the lack of video quality. Some day I might go back with Final Cut and do a new cut, with "F" included.
LogicHat 3 years ago
TheDarkKnight1985 3 years ago
Ok, I am at a lost for words. I lot of hyperbole is used to describe videos that people like on youtube, but this...and I sincerely mean this...this is outstanding. You captured Nolan's authorship and recurring themes with ease. Loved the music choices too, though I was hoping you would stick out that 'Analyse'for a little bit longer. My only gripes with this is the absent 'Following' clips. I don't know why you didnt include that film in your montage as it's an essential Nolan film. 4 stars
TheDarkKnight1985 3 years ago
jesus christ!, you don't have to see batman begins or the dark knight, only by taking a look at old memento you can see that Christopher Nolan is probably the most talented filmmaker alive.
R.I.P Stanley Kubrick....

Hey just wondering what programs you used to chop down the footage and edit it together. I have all of Nolans films and am doing a project on him for my Film Studies course next year and was looking to do a video similar to this to open the presentation.
PeopleAlwaysLie 3 years ago
I used Handbrake to rip the footage from my DVDs. The montage was cut together with iMovie.
LogicHat 3 years ago
I'm glad I'm the first to comment and say well done. I am so glad that you have a knack for momentum and focus (on all of Nolan's films, not just Batman). The only thing I could say against (and it's not a big deal considering how much time it must've taken to make) I kinda wish it was clearer though and not so much of the YouTube pixelated blur. But no harm and no foul okay. It is very very well put together from start to finish (and I loved the finish).
preacherton 3 years ago
Thanks for the kind words!
The pixellation bit in this case is more a product of iMovie (cuz it's free) formatting than YouTube compression.
I knew that there was only one way to end the piece.
