Lets celebrate december 3rd ( Ozzys Bday) as the new christmas, or replacement for christmas! Fuck yeah, presents, hard rock, and partying on a national scale!! We will just call it Ozzymas or something for now, and when he dies (if he dies) it shall become Ozzfest!!! in memorial of the most amazing miraculous more than just a person who has ever lived so far!!!! And we shall prevail over all others!!!!! HAA HAAAAAA HAAAAAAAAA!!! HAA! HAAAAAAAA!!!!HAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!HA!HA!HA!HA! HAAAAAAAAAAA!!!
i can see myself 50 years from now, teaching my grand kids who ozzy was, and his works with randy. and making them ozz-heads like myself. teach them what music is. cant wait(:
There are 3 released versions of this great song. This is the version with the re-recorded bass/drums. The version on the '80 Crazy Train 7" from the UK is by far the best version where the guitars are mixed so much better (ala Crazy Train & I Don't Know) and there's no cowbell in the chorus. The '84 remix that was on Japan only releases dulled the mix & had the cowbell. Let Ozzy and Epic know you want the original 7" mix plus the Live EP on the upcoming 30th anniversary Blizzard reissue.
I love the 2002 remastered... they fixed a LOT of the mixes with Randy's solos... especially the beginning of the Mr. Crowley one... on the record the first solo starts 1/16 a beat off,
the downbeat on that measure is cut off a bit, they fixed it in the remastered.
For some reason, I always imagine a priest trying to romance a very hot vampire when I hear either "Steal Away The Night" or this song... weird, because I HATE freakin' damn vampires
Funny thing is that Randy wrote this solo for Quiet Riot's 'Breaking Up Is A Heartache' he rehashed the solo with a couple extra licks but it's almost exactly the same...
If you like this song check out the Randy Rhoads years Quiet Riot CD...
lol your right, i just heard that song and he used pretty much the same chord progression of this solo for the entire song. and he had only written the first half of the solo back then and played it twice in different octaves.
He does still write. im pretty sure anyway. he did his black rain album in 2007 and i heard that he is working on another. he hasnt been touring 2009 and i heard it was because hes doin another album. not sure though.
remember that in this version, i believe that the drums and bass have been dubbed in to replace the original bass and drum lines. this happeded because of the original drumist and bassist sueing over royalites.
Solo is very good and classic Randy, but it can't touch the ones on either Crazy Train or Crowley. The other guitar track during the solo is really annoying. I bet RR wasn't happy with this recording
It is well documented that Randy was not happy with some of the solos on Diary, because the producers were rushing the album. At least one of them was a scratch track/solo that he never intended for mass consumption.
I realize Blizzard was before Diary, but because it is a rare track, it may very well have been rushed.
acctually, this song was made kinda for a b side, so was no bone movies, however, just before a gig randy, bob daisley and lee kerslake started you said it all, and tht replaced it on the b side. kinda cool. randy did a dif solo live, but he as i know, he did like this solo. very into his style, classical, melodic.
Btw, I agree that Randy would like the solo. It is classic, as I said. I doubt if he would like the 2nd guitar part during the solo, in terms of arrangement and recording.
Similarly, Ozzy has said that Randy wouldn't have liked Tribute, because of the recording quality. Of course, by that point, the tragedy had changed everything and we were joyous for anything.
So this is the bonus track on Blizzard? I assume that means the CD version only of Blizzard right? I've never heard this before. It's Randy Rhoads right?

But they added the horrible bass and drum redo's. Bad idea on their part. They have nothing on Kerslake and Daisley.
