Discovered Scriabin a couple years ago. Fabulous recording of Poems by Pascal Amoyel, Calliope label--to die for. I don't think there is anyone who did what Scriabin did. The Poeme Nocture Op 61 is so mystical--I had to listen a few times to appreciate it. This Neuhas is very well played and cleanly.
Per fortuna gli spregevoli bolscevichi non sono riusciti ad annullare l'immensa scuola musicale russa!!!!!!
Peccato che per molto tempo non siano potuti venire in occidente a farci conoscere il loro grande talento... Viva i russi !!!!
Sensuale, tragico, poetico, disperato, sognante..... >MUsica di una bellezza assoluta e sconvolgente!!!!!!
Wonderful interpretations that bring these poetic works to life. I love Scriabin harmonic ambiguities. These works were written very close to the 4th piano sonata and there are several similarities in harmony and piano figuration. The very distant Chopin influence can still be heard in Scriabin.
Op.32/1 is played wonderfully wistfully and whimsically; in Op.32/2 Neuhaus skilfully combines a sense of threat with one of exultation. This pianist was such a great artist and interpreter, yet he is generally known to the musical world as a teacher - well he did some good work there too!
Do you have any of the rare Neuhaus recordings? I'm intrigued by the thought of the 1st 3rd and 7th sonatas.
I recently heard Sofronitsky's sixth sonata, by the way. It's very poor sound and the performance is not as spectacular as I'd hoped, but it's worth a listen.
H.Neuhaus is way up there w/ sofronitzky and Horowitz.. They all were mad interpreters of Scriabin's music, all 3 unreachable and unique! Thanx for posting this absolute jewel!
Many thanks truecrypt for posting this, I can proudly say my mother was studying with him and Stanislav Neuhaus at Tchaikowsky Conservatoire in Moscow in the 60`s. Greatest music experience one could have with such legend.
Please visit my site for more details and her recordings.

Гениальный педагог и пианист! И сколько обаяния как в самой личности Нейгауза, так и в его игре! Рояль звучит божественно!
The ingenious teacher and the pianist! And how many charm both in person Neгgauz, and in his game! The grand piano sounds divinely!

This is another shining example of the stellar, highly musical and sensitive piano playing of this great pianist.

This was the real piano playing, now so forgotten and turned into that discoloured and empty thing so called virtuosism! Thank you so much!
