  • WOW!! That's an amazingly true Jerry sound! I'm floored!

  • @Evster2012 funny thing is I'm not even using the super 2 pickup that Jerry guys love (including myself now!) I know re did my guitar with the jerry make over and it sounds even closer! I'll try to get a vid up soon!

  • @Gr4tefuldead Did you use a reverse wired parallel A11 middle split and Twinblade neck? I'm working on a Carvin walnut top build, hog body/neck and any advice would be much appreciated! This guy Clay on the Carvin community turned me on to these vids of yours. Are the JBL 120's a critical factor? Thanks in advance!

  • @Evster2012

Hey, your carvin youre building sounds like a great one! it was wired stock, so I assume it wasn't reversed. For the Jerry Tone, I find an E-120 or K-120 is needed. I blew it off for a while and bought one, and it's definitely a HUGE (imo) part of jerry's tones. It's really what cuts through and fattens some of those notes up. I hear the difference in the E-120 and the stock fender speakers in my twin easily! Good lick! Ask me anything if you need it!

  • @Gr4tefuldead I'm used to Celestion Vintage 30s in my cabs. So I suppose I'm accustomed to a more Brit EL34 sound. The Carvin ValveMaster and X100Bs I've had bridged that gap nicely. Thick British leads, and crystal clear American clean tones. Somebody needs to make a JBL120 replacement! But I guess eBay it is, lol! Thanks again! I haven't pulled the trigger on my new Carvin yet. I have a 1987 DC400 and an Amer Deluxe Strat. I can get close, but I want the DC135 with walnut on hog. X-mas time..

  • @Evster2012 hey its clay from the carvin board- i keep coming back here cuz i love this sound haha (and i just scored an H&K bluesmaster) there are some modern "substitutes" for the JBL's- Eminence Commonwealth, Beyma Liberty, Weber Neomag.... i'm looking into getting a speaker at the moment. i want a JBL but i'm afraid to buy an old one on ebay due to the nature of old speakers and the difficulty and cost of reconing properly... i'm probbaly gonna at least try a new model

  • @goldenmonkeycolor Hi Clay! In case you missed it, I did thank you profusely for your pickup recommendations. :) And I thank you again my friend! Congrats on the H&K! Nice score! See you around the forums!

  • @Gr4tefuldead did you ever try a "new" jbl "type" speaker? like the webers or eminence commonwealth? i'm just about to score a bluesmaster! how's your blues master holding up?

  • btw guitar used is carvin dc 145 with stock middle P/U I'm in the process of getting it routed for the middle humbucker.. and redoing all the electronics (keeping neck pu, dimarzio super 2, SD '59)
