Tony Levin and Manu Katché's performances are great on this album. Such a talented rhythm section! Produced by Daniel Lanois as well. Every song is amazing!
A true poet/writer of prose & heartfelt chords of spirit. My words fall short for the gifts this man chose to bring to bear his very soul with. Please listen & read the words to His "Peyote Healing Song". And you've got to love "The Bodeans"!
Why is my comment being delayed in posting? To me it is just a common courtesy to inform the uploader of a video I embed in an article in my Blog. This seems to be happening with every person I notify.
I believe, "The Bodeans," are singing background, as one of them accompany's him on "Somewhere Down That Crazy River," They are pretty good on their own.
I remember the day the Army moved in and relived the S.Q in Chateauguay, there were tanks on the ground and Jets flying over, and I just thought this is not good. And on the radio no shit Chom FM plays Show Down at Big Sky by Robbie Robertson.. So when I hear that song now it takes me back to Indian Summer90
Makes the hair stand-up on the back of my neck! What a song! You can't beat Robbie's songwriting with the BoDeans backing his raspy vocals. By the way, saw the BoDeans in Austin this year - as good as ever.
I have loved this tune since I first heard it! There is a deeply spiritual message contained within it. My sincere gratitude for posting this, kurdtss. Warmest regards.
the great spirit gave us this land to light our fires on and it is here that 'WE SHALL REMAIN' ←good program to watch, tells story from our side of the war.
What a life this guy has lived! As a kid, summers on the 6 Nations with Mom.At 16,playing across North America with a legend,Ronnie Hawkins. At 20,playing with Dylan on one of the most influential tours in music history. At 25,creating,with Levon,Rick,Richard, and Garth, one of the greatest bands ever. What a brain to pick.
let this serve as a reminder of the honor of the native people of north america. there were no ecological disasters like we have now. they didn't live off the land, they lived with it. something we need to return to before its too late...
Why the hell isn't Peter Gabriel in this vid? He sang a lot of the backup vocals on this track! Perhaps he was too busy writing (the later aborted) Sledgehammer II?
Just plain excellent! As wonderful as The BAND was, this solo from Jamie Robert Robertson beats all they ever played, and that is no small feat! A once in a lifetime achievement, perhaps, if so, I for one am all too glad that I encountered it! God bless you Robbie and any and all of the original BAND, this puppy will continue to SMOKE AD INFINITUM! Thanks to: kurdts for the upload, You Tube for the space, and to Robbie Robertson Fans worldwide REJOICE AND ROCK ON SHINDIGGERS, and carry on! PEACE
@9erfandex The Band's works overshadow Robertson's solo effotrs by such a wide margin it isn't funny. That said- I love this song, and most of his solo work. Robertson got a lot of songwriting credits by buying them from his former band mates-all but Levon Helm but in his defense was the major writer after the 1st 2 albums. Still this is a great song on a good album.
@harrill7 That sir is your opinion, and I refuse to infringe upon your civil right to the same, after all we are both U.S. citizens! BUT, if you had spent more time reading my comment, you would have realized that I could not have been more complimentary to the work of The Band, God Bless Them! AND as very good as the aforementioned work was, in MY opinion Robbie's solo L.P was an infinitely more gratifying listening experience! Therefore, in conclusion, let us simply agree to disagree!
@9erfandex Are you serious? Better than anything The Band ever played? The lyrics are good, but the music sounds like every other 'big important studio record' released in the '80s. Robertson broke up The Band so he could be a pop star and this dated pop dreck is what he got.
This was one of my absolute favourite albums at the time, and I played the vinyl to death. In a fit of nostalgia I thought I'd revisit it on youtube, and I just about remembered all the words.
The sound has dated a little, but nowhere nearly as badly as some 80's stuff. And the dated sound can't mask the fact that this is a great song.
Robbie Robertson is an unbelievable talent. I still listen to the Last Waltz all the time. It's been great discovering his new stuff. And the fact that he incorporates his culture into his music is beautiful.
myuncle and router..Could both of you be bigger assholes? Not likely. Too bad you idiots don't see talent when you see/hear it. Just ask my friends in US Special Forces 3rd Btn 5th Group (Green Beret)what they think of Robbie Robertson. You might just want to move from your location. Oh, don't bother, they can track you down no matter where you are.
Great Album. Daniel Lanois did this album AND U2's Joshua Tree AND Peter Gabriel's So at the same time. Unbelievable. All top 20 albums in my rotation. I played this on my iPod over and over on the way to Sturgis last year. What a ride. Thanks Robbie for 50 years of music!
The Métis are descendants of marriages of Cree, Ojibway, Saulteaux, and Menominee aboriginals to French Canadians, Scots and English, and are one of three recognized Aboriginal peoples in Canada, along with the First Nations (Indians} and Inuit (Eskimo).
The Beatles spinoff band that got dropped by Capitol, what, 25+ years ago, and sold about ten records? I looked 'em up. They're totally forgettable! "Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft" apparently got covered by the Carpenters, so they must've at least raked in SOME cash via that popular seventies duo. Better than nothin', I guess.
Robbie Robertson is a talent to be reckoned with..with the Band and on his own. Great voice, great promoter of native North Americans. Don't think he gets the credit he's due. I agree with CatFiain..a true Classic album...One of my all time favourites all these years later.
He's also half native-american, and somehow he was born in Canada. Weird combo of ethnicities, ha. But either way he wrote some of the best music in existence between this album and all of his material with The Band.
Well, you know, it is possible for foreigners to move to Canada, fornicate there, and produce a child. The U.S. is not the centre of the universe where everything begins and ends within its borders.
Daniel Lanois has to be given a lot of credit too. He was the Canadian producer of this album and is known mostly for producing U2, Bob Dylan and Peter Gabriel.
Everybody should own Daniel Lanois last two albums Shine and Belladonna. Excellent and earthy and moving.
at a certain time in your life, you have a lot of cd's. this is one that stands out from the bunch; too bad it was downhill from there. DID anything else come from him after?
