I don't know if this is correct, in theory it could be quite simple but I was never a good programmer. So here goes, when an image is scanned the pixels are coded, hex colours etc, so when a shape ie a curve is detected it is matched against other pictures. I cant really explain it, but a visual representation would be better.
Yawning over stupid lies...Google search by image actually searches first by the name of the jpeg file, change the name and then do search by image....

few years ago two parents went out for dinner. A few hours later, the babysitter was calling to see if she could cover up the clown statue in the kids' room, the father said "Get the kids and get out of the house, we'll call the police, we don't have a clown statue". The "clown statue" was actually a killer that escaped from jail. If you don't post this on 10 videos tonight the clown will be in your bed at 3:00am with a chainsaw in his hand
Awe, a little bit of pride kicking in that such a large American corp use a landmark (The Clifton Suspension Bridge) in the demo local to me in Bristol, UK. nice one :o)
Must read this. Once you started there is no turning back. A little girl was raped and murdered in 1945. her body was not found until 1947. Then a boy last week read this and did not copy and paste this mesaage. The girl appeared in his room haunting him and killed him. If you do not copy and paste this onto 10 videos in the mext 30 minutes the dead girl will appear in your room tonight and haunt you and kill you. Well you better start to copy and paste if you want to live

Google copied Tineye's idea, without purchasing the company, just like they copied facebook with Google+.
Google should have bought tineye's idea , or at the very least pay them something for first coming up with the idea. Show a little sportsmanship google.
Tineye was never the original reverse image search. Did Facebook pay Myspace when they took their entire audience sending the once prominent company to it's knees? Was Myspace even the original social network?
It's called progression. If someone finds a cure for AIDS should they reimburse the companies who make medication to help remedy it?
Felt a need to say, I think this is a good idea. I have bagged on google quite a bit and I honestly never feel the need to say when I think google has done something good. So to show I don't hate everything google does, I wanted to say, this is a cool idea and what I would expect from a company like google used to be.
@Benzor1001 I loved what google and you tube was and started out as, as of late, I don't like the way google has been going about their business.
Google being as BIG as it is, it's hard not to use it. I guess I could use vimeo but it doesn't have the numbers.
This is what is dangerous about google these days, it could get to a point where they are too intertwined in all our lives, we're almost at that point already.
I'd say "Nice work, Google." But despite the amazing technology... Is uploading an image to search really more efficient, opposed to typing in your request?
@voop556 The thing is, you might want to discover new things that are too complicated to create a query for, or, you might not exactly know what you are searching for.
lol talking about privacy..i swear they more about us than ourselves..plus it is different people per second lol...(talking about independent advertisers lol)
i've tried abuot a hundred pictures.... everytime google gives me hundreds of others that do not look anything like mine.... i have a green shirt on in one so all of the results are people with green in their images....
@SnapShotOfASoul - so, you like having long, off-topic conversations with totally random people you don't know at all? Me too! Actally, what was this vid about? I'm a bit too off-topic.
It doesn't work well, I tried using a picture of a giraffe and the similar images were of people, horses, outdoor pictures that were similar in color, but there were no giraffes in the similar images. If they can't match a giraffe this thing will be useless for finding good porn, not that I would use it that way or anything...
@hcortens I'm no idiot - I'm in university level English and I'm just turning 16. I've had many teachers and professors and they all pronounced it Queerey. "Qwereeey" isn't even the correct way to say it in the dictionary I use.
@hcortens I can't get contacts because of my astigmatism (and why the fuck would I want to stick something in my eye anyways) and I do have a genetic disorder that makes me unable to lose weight properly, so yeah, thanks for practising what you preach. Loser. :)
@SnapshotOfASoul, I think this video is getting a lot of of off topic arguments. This seems like a cool Google feature. Not trying to argue, but people pronounce words differently in different parts of the world. Go to merriam-'s website and you see that they have query pronounced both ways. Webster has a nice little audio samples. I hope this helps.
@phatcartoon I don't use Webster's Dictionary (I have a very old Australian one from 1960 and a newer one that was given to me in school, but both aren't Webster's) but in some parts of the world I acknowledge that they may pronounce it that way. But for her accent she's doing it wrong. :) I'm an English language Nazi, sue me :P
@SnapshotOfASoul If I could sue all the English Nazis of the world I would. Nazis are always in the wrong; no matter the kind. In college I had two English professors that seem to have two different views on everything, but both always thought they were right. They use to drive me nuts. How do you know her accent is wrong? If she is from the States it can vary from state to state. haha! (just giving you a hard time). . . .Life is too short, don't let the little things get to you.
@phatcartoon Meh, I was just bored to begin with. :P I don't think I'm totally right on everything but just from experience and written fact I've been led to believe one way.
@GilvaSunner Ah, yeah true. But I guess maybe they've been trying to optimize it. You have to think about their servers. If they don't have enough of them and enough of everything, it would go slower, and more people would complain.
Yeahh... Right.

To all non-technical Guys here,
This is most comprehensive video ive seen ever.
Actually an image is simply a matrix(Rows n columns, not movie)
of pixels, each pixel can have color values for RED GREN n BLUE
form 0 t0 255, so by separating these we can apply PATTERN MATCHING Algorithms to find similar content(image) on web.
Simple, isn't it?
