  • jesus drummers can't spell.

  • @killercrabman it is spelled "hi hat" not "high hat", just so you know

  • Dude... at first "Tigger" looked like the "N-word" and I was about to flip out on you. I was like, "Man, what does this boy think he's doin'!?"

  • Lol, this guys is dope... I'll totally support this guys band. Appreciated, this is really gonna help my beat making skills

  • is there a stoty about the tigger suit?

  • DUDE I HAVE THE SAME COSTUME AS YOU!!!!!!!! I was thinking about making YT videos with it but i guess i wont steal ur thunder?

  • nice beats :D what kindof cymbels do you need and what cost it ???

  • How long have you been playing?

  • spring break in august?

  • Comment removed

  • Even if it wasn't planned, the sticks hitting together in 1:19 fit perfect in to the beat

had to laugh a bit about that ; )

  • =/ can't find #5, I don't know if it's in the video (a notice of some sort) but I write this before starting the vid, maybe I would forget it during the vid. If there's no #5, then that's... awkward...

  • Thank you so much for the help. You're videos are the only helpful things I've found online. I really appreciate it.

  • great vid. very helpful! don't you get hot in your suit?

  • yes, finally i found this beat :)

  • thanks

  • thanks beast, if i make it big (yeah right...) i owe you one.

  • 3:32 Theres an extra bass hit.

  • whereve u been =[?

  • what symbols do you have i just bo a stock chepo drum set and i need to set it up

    please reply!

  • @88KITTY55 He has Zildjian A customs, but those are expensive cymbals. If you're a beginner, I suggest a Zildjian ZBT cymbal set. They sound good for the price, and will last a long while for beginners.

  • spit fire hat!!!

    yeah thats whats up!

  • i wanna know the story behind the tigger suit.

  • A

    W

    S

    O

    M

    E

     xD

  • thanks

  • why is it when people go to double strokes there elbows come up

  • @grjjboy it's probably either their arms are tightening or bad technique. but it doesnt make to much of a difffrence. This guy still owns.

  • if anyone asks me later for my teacher, i'll say his name is tigger. great videos, helping a lot ;) 5 stars

  • hey your good and i watch your vids but i have to ask why the costume

  • @kevinbeldin the question is why not the costume

  • @curtistheninja or mabye its why buy the costume?

  • @kevinbeldin Well, It is a little weird... But alot of drummers wear caps or hats of some descriptions.. Chad Smith for example.

    ;)

  • @knockadingdong yea but ive never seen someone where a full body costumes i dont think

  • man i am a full percussionist and my school band has drumset... i tried this song in a middle of concert to make the song interesting i got in trouble hahahahaha ........dude you are awesome!!!!!!!

  • LMFAO the first part of the video, when you were siting down durmming, cuz of how the costume folded it looked like it said "ngger"

    I laughed :P

but as usual, love the lesson :D

  • hey can you tell me what snare is it?

    salutes from argentina man !

  • where is 5?^^

  • I got an issue !! I cannot drop my right hand onto the snare, i need to use my left hand, and drop it under my right to hit the snare instead. This "sometimes" tangles up with my right forearm, lol. I was thinking of adapting a remote hihat setup to the right of me located just above the bass. I've tried practicing with the right, but it just aint me. Im using a Yamaha rack kit, so i dont have a lot of room for movement on this thing. Any advice guys ?. Cheers, John (Sydney).

  • Dont be a quitter. Just keep practicing SLOW!!!

  • @dwsnare so ur sayin that when ur right hand is on the hi-hat, u cant move ur right hand down to the snare? well, it might be because ur not moving your whole arm backwards. if u do that, then it moves your hand ontop of the snare drum and then all u have to do is drop the snare.

the motion with your whole arm should look like its sawing an invisible piece of wood inbetween the hi-hat and the snare lol

  • Yeah, i know where your going with it, but for me to favour my right hand as a lead just puts me outta balance and time.

Im so used to leading with my left, it's just second nature to me. I've tried over and over leading with my right, but it suks big time, lol.

I just need to harden the f**k up, hehe. I'lle work something out, i've still got this idea of a remote hihat set up just to right of me.

Thanks for your reply Crisp, i'lle get the saw out and start practicing - sounds cool.

  • @dwsnare just practice slowly coz thats the key to success =)

  • where is 5?

  • 1:53 im one of them guys :S

  • spiker drummer can you give me lessons about how to practice drum rolls ....... PLEASE!!!

  • This reminds me of Richard Christy, because of his time in Death with their last album

  • Like your stuff man, this is exactly the kind of stuff i'd like to learn

  • KILL HIM!

  • where is lesso no 5?

    cant find it =X

  • That's a double bass lessons, my first spikey vid, indeed it is gone =P!!!!

  • I'm so glad you put up videos for beginners.

When I started playing drums there was no such thing as youtube, neither internet

  • 1:54 perfect description or joey jordison

  • DUDE, you are freaking amazing. clear instruction(you should really give teaching a thought). Just watching you drum inspires me to no end. Keep it up man, keep rocking \m/

P.S. the tigger suit kicks ass

  • Is there a lesson 5 that i missed somewhere, i couldnt find it.

  • basically when u do RLRL your playing 16th notes hes doing a 16th notes rock beat... I would also say that using a pillow for this exercise is not a wise choice lol you want bounce.

  • You do a really good job of explaning it ive never done a varation on single and doubles on the hi hat,

  • i just learned these like a eek ago good fun

  • Fuckin insane just so happens to be the definition for your tigger suit

  • This isn't actually that uncommon of a drum beat in metal songs. maybe not extreme metal, but a surprising amount of songs use it.

Two super famous ones being Smoke on the Water and Run to the Hills.

  • Smoke on the Water is not metal...

  • actually, it was considered back in the day. That is true metal or actually "just metal" they pioneered and inspired the metal genre and now, you get more extreme stuff which is referred to as metal.

  • Though Deep Purple is actually considered early metal ; )

  • SUAVE!

  • damn it!!! this fucking left hand is so much slower than right!!!

  • Thank u very much!!

  • the beat after you say "fits really well into punk songs" are you using a double stroke role, if so how is it incorporated into the beat if not what is it?

Sorry if this is a stupid question

  • thanks for everything you do, you are really encouraging for me

  • i swear i thought i saw "nigger" on his costume..

  • lol

  • Spikeydrummer has the best intro on youtube : D

  • hey noscopes i noticed how many vids you had on your page of you playing the drums...i also noticed how many halo vids you have lol take the negativity somewhere else bub your just a hater

  • lets see ur videos smartass.. i cant wait!!

  • This guy is better than all the Dvds and books iv seen so far.

  • yea those diddles were closed as shit

  • i love the sound of your carash 0:05

  • Thanx!!!!!!!!! You help me a lot!!!!

    I'm having trouble with this...urr beat...hehe

Yup...I agree with u this beat is soooooo hard hahahahaha.....

  • spring break in august?

  • he prolly made the vids in spring then added them later on

  • lol you can just practice that for a realy long time and then u feel good about your self *chk*

  • This was a sweet lesson.

    I learned some new things.

    Thanks =]

  • do u do ur doubles with a bounce or using the fingers to drive the doubles?

  • he uses bounces (watch his vid on doublestroke rolls)

  • AWESOME!! 5 stars!! it really helps me out.. I really like your beat @ 0:14 - 0:18... lookin forward to catch it!! thanks dude!

  • Make a DVD, ill buy it, shoot ill buy it twice

  • hey man...do you have a band where you play drum...i mean, i like your song on the guitar but it´ll be nice a song with drum..

  • holy shit dude the intro beat to this blew my mind! that was sick

  • Comment removed

  • those technics are really good.......i have one simple question....i'm sorry my english is not perfect..please tell me....is absolutly necesary now how to read the book with musical notes(the partiture) to be a good drummer???...

  • No, its not neccessary to read musical notes.

A keen ear and practice is all you need

  • hey. im a metal fan and hi hat stuff is awesome! TOOL! lol

  • can u please go a little slow on the lessons, lol i gotta pause a lot xD

  • holy crap ur slow is my superfast xD, ur really good and i luv ur outfit

  • dude your a very good drummer. i´m a drummer myself...well trying to be. i´ve been playing for about 7 years, put not consistenly, so i´m not as good as i should be. i have the same problem you use to have. i keep my snare hand as such (i play left handed, so everything is switched) but i really don´t have a problem, thoe it would me easier to learn how to play the "right way"

  • spikey...you're amazing

  • i hope you never get rid of the tigger outfit!!

  • Man you are a really good drummer and i like the vids you make , i have just one question ... why do u use the trigger outfit ?

    xD !

  • damn you're good ;o

  • thank you!

  • Hi spikey! I'm a keyboardist but I think you're really good ;D Rock on man!

  • thanks man!

  • hey spikey! what size of stick would you suggest for me to use? right now im using a 5A..

  • I use 5b, I always enjoyed a heavier stick

  • Ahahaaha :D

Sorry but you totally asked for that.

    You're an amazing drummer though.

  • yeah dude the high hat is the easiest thing to double stroke rolls on.

  • very true, it has a good rebound

  • i wish i was as good as you

  • don't worry man... it only takes practice... if you put your mind to it, you'll be just fine... don't be discouraged

  • thanks

  • oh yeah i've seen your previous vids about the double strokes. . .

but still, i cant do the double strokes with speed like yours,

    any suggestion??

i tried to practice the double strokes on pillows from about a week ago. . .haha i'm a beginner btw. . .!!

  • man, I really don't suggest practicing on pillows... the most important part of these methods are the rebounds... that's the pivotal part... so always practice on bouncy surfaces

  • yeah hahah

thx for the tips man, , ,

    :)

    i really appreciate that!!

  • hi spikey,,,is that a RRLL pattern you Put Into the hi hat???

i cant keep up The speed man. . .

can You tell Me the patterns??

  • thanks for the question man... I'm pretty sure that in this video it's just RLRL until the part with the double stroke rolls (which would be RRLL)

  • hey spikey,

you are playing doubles at the hihat, but after your hand went to the snare, is there again one hit with the right hand at the hihat and then a double with the left hand?

or just a left double after?

sorry for my english, hope you understand what i mean..

great lessons by the way :)

saw all of them and i'm still learning mch with them :)

  • Thanks for the question, If I understand your question, correctly, then yes, you will take your right hand back into the regular right, left, right, left pattern. I hope this helped!

  • yes i got it :)

    thank you!

  • hei man.. just wondering

    is that necessary that you

    before you learn drums

    you should know how to

    plai guitar hehe

    i suck on guitar

    and little on drums

but youre video help a lot..

  • no man, don't worry at all... guitar is a totally different world... people usually don't know anything about anything when they start a new instrument.

  • you use a zildjan hig-hat right???

  • yes its a zildjian a hi-hat.

  • yep, it's an A custom

  • Yo, Spikey! Just wondering, what kind of set is that? Im planing on buy a new set soon.

  • I play a pearl master custom set... happy drum hunting!

  • i have played guitar for 7 years, and i just got a pearl drumset cause i like playin, and now thats all i play... ive played for about a month and im already better than ppl i know who have been playin 4 years cause these vids awesome job

  • cool man... that's real progress! I'm glad the videos have helped you with that... I'm very glad! keep it up man!

  • Damn .. I wish that I could play the drums and not the guitar. That was just too awesome man.

  • thanks man... I really appreciate it! but guitar is an amazing instrument... and you can actually write songs! not like drums... that's why I picked up the guitar... (besides there's no reason why you can't learn both!)

  • Yeah, well my parents didn't let me to play the drums, because they're too loud. I ended up buying a 50 watt tube amp few months ago and they weren't really happy about it. Going to see Opeth in december btw. :D

  • I'm sorry man... sometimes it can be difficult to play drums around people who don't like noise... have fun at Opeth! they always put on a great show!

  • i've a question, did you ever use the flying fingers technique when you double the time whit your hands?

    thanks

  • sure. not in this video however... this is just double stroke rolls

  • how long you been playing for?

i saw your video for the first 5 secs and sed wow

  • thanks man, I've been playing for about 10 years

  • i dont even play drums i play guitar, but yeah this guy is my hero lol [=

  • wow man... I'm honored dude... I've been working on guitar for about a year now... I've always thought guitar was just awesome...

  • i seen the video of you playing guitar also and im just sitting at my computer and thinking to myself like wow this dude is a beast at like everything lmao

  • lol thanks man... I really apreciaet it... I'm glad you think that!

  • great vid with some pro beats

  • thanks man!

  • woow i can't believe im the first one to see this :) anyway cool vid that sounds rad and i think u use something similar to this in death metal

  • lol thanks man... cool idea dude... have fun!
