Call me fucking crazy, but if I had the pleasure of meeting Bruce Lee I'd tell them that I want to be honored by him punching me somewhere, hard. Preferably so it doesn't rapture organs or break bones, which might be a hard effort on his part, but I would've wanted to be able to say that I took a punch from Bruce Lee and lived.

If he was standing in a balanced stance it wouldn't look anywhere near as impressive. I think Bruce Lee was incredible, but he was a showman & if truth be told a bit of a show off.. @KevinWrench actually it may be a parlor trick but if you watch this guy Sifu Rick Tucci, He stated it's about the fact the you can focus all your power into such a short range punch. So yes you are right about the stance, unfortunately by seeing this vid. If you saw the whole vid, he actually punches a board while a person is on a proper stance. But again it's about focusing all your energy into the fist with little to know way of gaining power at a short distance. The power is in you.
@Thereisalwaysmore we use a lot of short energy strikes, you can deliver a lot of energy in a short space. But the thing with energy strikes though, if delivered correctly the opponent should'nt move back much at all. The idea is to release the energy into the opponents body and cause a shock to there system not to send them flying across the room. I could show you both strikes and there is a world of difference between the two & I know which I would rather be hit with...

This isnt very impressive. This is easy to do. You dont even need to train a lot to do this trick. Notice how the Uke's feet are shoulder width apart. If you place your feet in an L shape one forward and other behind you then it changes your balance to where the effect would not be to throw u back and into a chair. try this on your friend at home just change your stance and see that it wont work nearly as well if you get into a fighting stance and not stand there like a goon

If I type in mma will people read this? (kidding) but one legacy of Bruce lee's that people seem to be forgetting is his son Brandon Lee. Only a few films under his belt before his untimely death while making The Crow. He had skill and in my opinion was a better actor than his father.

Bruce developed Jeet Kune Do for real life fighting with no rules..this includes jab to the eye, strikes to the throat, groin etc...if you want to be a sports fighter then fight in MMA. imo - The 'One inch punch' is - often - more of a powerful push (focused into one small area), rather than being an actual punch.
It seems a lot of the strength comes from the ground. You would need (very) good stance. Weak stance won't get you far. Resistance to impact absorbs power.
The better your stance, the more power you should be able to draw from the ground. The stronger your body, the better you can transfer that power. And I mention the mind as the ultimate weapon.
Sure. The effectiveness however (imo) depends on whether you try to push with your arm / body, or if you know how to draw strength from the ground through stance. Physical strength helps here. And so does mental acuity - clarity - sharpness.

Floyd, on the other hand, works his opponents out and then breaks piece by piece. If you place your feet in an L shape one forward and other behind you then it changes your balance to where the effect would not be to throw u back and into a chair. try this on your friend at home just change your stance and see that it wont work nearly as well if you get into a fighting stance and not stand there like a goon

..I wish people would stop comparing Bruce Lee to modern day sports fighters, the fighters you see in the UFC fight with rules..its just a sport. Bruce developed Jeet Kune Do for real life fighting with no rules..this includes jab to the eye, strikes to the throat, groin etc...if you want to be a sports fighter then fight in MMA. But if you want an art that will train you for all types of street combat..then Jeet Kune Do is for you.

imo - The 'One inch punch' is - often - more of a powerful push (focused into one small area), rather than being an actual punch.
It seems a lot of the strength comes from the ground. You would need (very) good stance. Weak stance won't get you far. Resistance to impact absorbs power.
The better your stance, the more power you should be able to draw from the ground. The stronger your body, the better you can transfer that power. And I mention the mind as the ultimate weapon.

Sure. The effectiveness however (imo) depends on whether you try to push with your arm / body, or if you know how to draw strength from the ground through stance. Physical strength helps here. And so does mental acuity - clarity - sharpness.

@marcsman229 The quality of opponent has nothing to do with the victories Floyd has had... because his a different type of fighter to Pacquaio. Pacquaio always goes looking for the knockout... Floyd, on the other hand, works his opponents out and then breaks piece by piece. Money's knockout of Hatton has to go down as one of the greatest in history... the timing of the punch and the technique required to pull it off was exemplary. I can't praise it enough.

He also indicates there might be more to it, but he doesn't specify it much. If you are referring to fairytale "chi" power. Yea, well- Bhuddistic teachings and legends only. But please look more up on Bruce Lee. I would recommend you to read some more about it before you argue with it to be fake.

Fuckin sucks that Bruce had to die young, as with all great prodigies. His knowledge in martial arts today would have been out of this world, though it already was anyways. His students would OWN the UFC, and that's no exageration as his knowledge and adaptation to modern martial arts would be no problemo for Bruce, He would actually find weaknesses in todays greatest.

@gamecollect101 Bruce most likely would not like UFC. Just like how Jackie Chan dislikes it.. these are guys who learned traditional kung-fu, Lee from Ip man and lee faught in the streets in a gang for a cause... They both did Kung-Fu demonstrationseventually lee did his Jeet demos as well, but the old breed of Chinese Martial Artists find UFC too violent, unneccesaryand I am sure he wouldn't have bothered to teach or adapt to it, as most old breeds like chan dont even like its existance.

@gamecollect101 actually they wouldnt! i love bruce lee, he's awesome in everyway possible but UFC fighters are some of the best all-around fighters in the world. if it were a kick boxing match hell yea he would own, but what happens when the fight goes to the ground? that was his only flaw in his fighting style.. i forget what its called but u can look it up and see what i mean...

@boricubano2005 I'm pretty sure you that Bruce Lee could handle some hot-shot UFC fighters. You may have forgotten, but he used to be known (still is known) as one ofm, "The best fighters in the world." He most likely has some sort of technique to get of the ground. If I know Bruce correctly, he would'nt skip something as important as that. And just for the record, I doubt the a UFC fighter would EVER get Bruce down onto the ground. Lolss !
