Jesus, I had forgotten about this gig, this was my first ever Cardiacs show. There was a big crew from the Twickenham area who went to this. We were smoking cigarettes dipped in amyl nitrate on the bus up to Surbiton, (I am not particularly proud of this). The floor was sprung and we were seeing how high we could jump. Great night!
I was at this gig in suburban Surbiton ! ..... it was brilliant as was all of there gigs ...... Jesus 22 years ago ! ..... Hang on, I saw them in Kingston when they were Cardiac arrest umm that was 1979 !!!!!
Simply the best track ever, closely followed by Is this the life. This is the first time I have listened to the Cardiacs in about fifteen years. They're great. Thanks to all for posting such great material
ahh to experience Cardiacs at their best was a delight to behold!! absolutely priceless and will always remains a v v good memory!! total respect and best wishes to Tim Smith etc for carrying on in good spirits but they will never reach those loft hights again...they really did deserve tremendous success for those shows...i cant think of a band that even come close to touching them....Arcade Fire would get a small nod but other than that...
Do you know, I actually think it's rather nice that the Cardiacs have never been a mainstream success. Pop does not deserve to be blessed with such talent. More talent and love and energy in one band than the whole of the insidious pop music industry. Yes, we need them both but I know which camp I sleep in - Absolutely covered in beer and flour!!
Thanks for your feedback. Much appreciated - I get those goosebumps too!
I remember seeing them at Stonehenge Free Festival in 1984 (the last one before everone got beaten up by Thatcher) on the bill just before The Enid and Hawkwind - incredible!

Paulo - you and me both mate - The Trudy were support at this gig as far as I remember - they're still going too!
Did you know that 'Richard Targett' of The Trudy was the original drummer with The Cardiacs?
'A Cake For Bertie's Birthday' - what a treat :o)

This is amazing footage; I've got goosebumps watching it.
I saw them do similar at my very first Cardiacs gig at the T&C in October '88.
Seeing that such a spectacle had been scorched in my memory ever since, it's incredibly strange to see it all again here.
Thank you so much for posting it up!
