lol before o heard you say you were going to extend the pump i was wondering what the point of it was becaue it would just be putting the water right back where it came from
@Lachlant1984 It is explained well in the video "What Home Buyers & Sellers Should Know About Radon Video PSA". I can't link to it here, but do a quick search and watch it.
@youtubasoarus My Dad always used to tell me to move out of the basement because of Radon, and I never knew what he was talking about until about a year ago.
I was told that my level wasn't all that bad compared to some other places that needed the fans, but I'd still rather have it as close to zero as I can.
How come your house accumulates radon in the first place? I've never heard of such a thing in Australia, but that might be something to do with the fact that 99.9% of houses in Australia don't have basements...
@uzaiyaro I've never even heard of Radon before, and I'm not even sure what this is all about, perhaps as you say this isn't a big problem here in Australia.
I kind of figured your house was in a more rural setting. It looks like you're off to a strong start with the whole radon thing...I take it that the unit goes into that hole in the floor and sucks the radon away?
@uxwbill I'm actually in a small city, still has a bit of a small town atmosphere though. The radon fan pulls air through the footing drains that are connected to the sump pit, since they are already below the slab anyhow. This removes the radon before it can come into the basement.
From what I remember being told, the air conditioner has a 10 ton cooling capacity. Some day I'll have to look at it myself and see.
@xsheryTV I've seen much worse, while busting up and replacing the floor would be the best idea, putting down a layer of self-leveling concrete to seal the floor would work.
@JL85FW That's basically what was done on the other side of the basement. Only problem is that it doesn't adhere to the old cement very well, just sits on top for the most part.
@Maxxarcade Unfortunately most of the time that's the way it works, if the existing isn't meticulously prepared before putting it down it just won't stick.
@Maxxarcade My grandmother had a pipe like that, i buried it under the backyard and brought it back about ground 30 feet away from the house. Just a thought?? :-) Looks like a nice set-up you have to get rid of the radon, i need to get a detector here.
@TheMrmagnetophon Ya we're thinking about having a trench put in that will be filled with gravel. The sump could then go in a perforated underground pipe. We need a trench to dry up the back yard anyhow, because it is always really muddy.

I've never even heard of Radon, what exactly is it? Can someone explain this all to me in layman's terms?

If i were you man, with all that nice stuff in your basement + the server, i would invest in a backup sump pump as well

Is that really a 10-ton air conditioner?

I should do the radon system here too. How does that work through your sump pump area?

Very nice, suck that radioactive crap outside.

@TheMrmagnetophon The land slopes downhill, but it could still use some help.
