I don't understand how you pro-choicers can stare this in the face and say the mother is wrong for not having an abortion and going through treatment. You support the mother's choice, right? That was her choice. Or is this some all-women-have-an-equal-choice-but-some-choices-are-more-equal-than-others thing?
@lilpinkchick95 Nope, the point of being pro-choice is supporting whatever choice a woman makes, whether it be abortion, adoption, or starting a family. :)
I don't think she would've had a long life anyhow. She probably thought "Why would I kill my baby, to simply be in the same situation?" She IS an absolute Saint to me!!
Why do Catholics insist that these women who have established relationships and people who depend on them are wise and good for refusing medical treatment against medical advice for some fetus who was incapable of thought or emotion??
I'm torn on this one.. I find it both selfish and selfless- the child is mom's property, and hers to decide the value of, but she had an obligation to her husband, and a long life ahead of her... Her child will grow up w/o a mother and knowing it's mother chose it over her own life, and while that will bring about a certain amount of gratitude, it will also bring about a lot of guilt, and heartache..
I don't know what I'd do in this situation, really..
How could u be pro choice and said u would've done the same thing in the situation? Because if u could abort a baby just because of inconvinient financial situation..what makes u think ur not gona abort a baby when you're dying of cancer? You're contradicting urself TheirMommie. Have some common sense
@thesoftshock Sometimes not everything can work out perfectly but at least the baby can have life now. It isn't suicide...refusing treatment is not suicide.
She did as Jesus would have done, gave her life for her child. It takes courage and great faith to do what she did. No matter what anyone says, this was clearly an act of love.
I feel sorry for that poor little boy,he'll have to grow up not ever having a boi- mother. That is so sad.I don't see where this mother is a heroic or she would still be alive and taking care of other children she could have had and be with the man she loved.
She sacrificed her life for the life of her baby because she understood she was not in authority to make the decision on who's life has more value. And BTW, my own mother grew up without a mother. She's just fine as are her siblings. Don't you know anyone adopted? Maybe you are just as stupid as your words.
@eskhemo She was entirely the only authority to decide who's life has more value as the baby was still a part of her and not a separate viable being or she could have given birth to it and begun treatment. Whilst not viable it was part of her and up to her to decide. It was entirely her decision.
Are you kidding? This is terrifying! This woman could have been treated instead of dying a slow painful...not to mention POST PREGNANCY! death. My she is rest in peace is appropriate...but should she even be resting?!
I am actually not Christian or pro-life (I think it depends entirely on the situation, and that it's no one else's business) but I would have done the same thing in her position, and I admire her for doing so. Half the time those treatments don't work anyway, and sometimes people are more miserable through the treatment than through the actual disease.
I'm sure her baby will thank her and remember her forever. :)
This is an amazing story - I cant wait to meet this wonderful lady in heaven - she is a true hero. Im reminded of Jesus words in John 15 - 'Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.'
this was a tough choice. I still think if she had other children before this one what would she do? would she still sacrifice herself to save one and leave the rest motherless? God knows what a trial this would be!!!
@oldsterone yeah :) im muslim and i think this is so beautiful. the selflessness of this woman and courage really strikes me. She went above and beyond her duty as a mother, let alone as a human being. May God bless her and give her entrance into paradise.

Now this child will grow up without a mother and the father will not have spousal support in raising his child. Too bad.
BTW, does that count as suicide?

The Mother did not get a chance of salvation, but the husban and child does have a chance for salvation if they choose to.

I am pro-choice but I too am moved by this story. I would have done the same thing if I had to make this decision.
I do not think that abortion should be used as a form of birth control but if the circumstance warrant it, yes, i believe it is still a choice.
May this woman rest in peace and her son know just how special and loved he was by her.

abortion is murder. why don't u tell us now which do u prefer the most.
1) abortion=murder
2) sacrife so others can live
JESUS CHOSE NOT TO KILL OTHERS BUT TO SACRIFE HIMSELF.... Now please repeat u'r choice.
