Throw a supersnake at a zr1 and i think we havea winner, aerodynamics won't make up for an extra 150 hp. Plus mustangs are a base car, they are sold to be worked on, Ford even sells performance racing parts for mustangs. Don't get me wrong i love corvettes, i love all american cars. But respect a modded mustang it might come back and bite you in the ass.(not saying this one was modded)
@TiconderogaX Agree the ZR1 is no comparison to ANY mustang (stock to stock), but a Super Snake and Z06 are pretty close in times and in price. Thing is in this video, this GT500 ran pretty good against the Z06, and is some 20K less in price.
@Punisher7121 The Z06 is $75k runs 11.4? I'm not to sure, but I know the 2012's are faster than the old ones that ran 11.6. The Super Snake is $40k on top of the $50k for the GT500 and runs 11.9. I wouldn't say that's close, not at those speeds.
@TiconderogaX What I read has the Z06 running 11.5-11.6 and the Super Snake running 11.7-11.8. A Super Snake is 30K on top, so it'll put it around 80K. It is about 5K more than the Z06, but the price and times are a little closer than you indicated. Not saying the Super Snake is better, just that the vehicles are comparable.
@Punisher7121 Wow. You're probably the first Ford guy who has made an honest calculation of the new SuperSnake. The Z06's use to run 11.6, but now they use the same suspension as the ZR1 and are suppose to be quite a bit faster now. I can't find an accurate source for the Z06's new time in the 1/4 mile, but I would say 11.4 is a fair estimate. Also I was arguing with someone the other day about the super snake and decided to look up the cost. It's actually $80k ontop of the $30k for a donor 5.0.
@TiconderogaX I own a 5.0 now, but definitely have respect for GM as my previous vehicle was an LS1 Camaro and I loved the LT1 TA I had years back. 2012 Z06, I'm reading info from chevy.com. Chevy's site has 0-60 times for the 12 Z06 same as the 2011, which leads me to believe the 1/4 will be really close to the same also. Super Snake I've read from 11.7 to 11.8. The 750HP version of Super Snake can be had for 30K on top of the Cobra price, which should be right at or under 50K for coupe.

I did some work to my KR, (625 rwhp vs Z's 489 rwhp), and it's still 4 tenths slower in a 1/4. The KR gets tired after 3 consecutive runs while the Z gets faster, (Z will run all day without a whimper while the KR begins to break stuff after 3 runs, no joke) The KR would also never take a turn nearly as well as a base vette much less a Z. It's not meant to take turns fast, it's not a well balanced car. In spite of it's flaws, it's still great fun to drive, looks cool, and I'm happy to own it.

Vetts hang with Ford GTs (The later GT 40, NOT Mustang GTs), and Vipers while Mustangs hang with Camaros and Challengers, (they are similar cars a similar feel). BTW, I know because I own both A 08 Shelby GT500KR and an 06 Z06. I like both cars but there is nothing to compare between them!!!

@patwwe I am an 08' Z06 owner... Haha the price difference it considerable. Mine was roughly $81K, a ZR1 starts at about $110k... The Z06 also has the potential to make a lot more power, due to the 7L V8... A supercharger pushing no more then 8psi will put you past 700bhp easily...

KnowsAll, huuhumm, sorry, it is on a "Ford" and if "Ford" didn't want that "product" on their car, they'd take it off. Another words, that car is Ford, I don't care if the paint was from Japan and tires are Khumo and the windshield is Canadian and the leather is from Taiwan and the intake is from China. It is being put out as a Ford! I know, I know, all of the Mustang I S N O T made in America. I know the blower on it is not made by Ford, but they allow it on their car and sell it as a Ford.
Interestingly enough, Car and Driver has an article on how much of the Mustang is American. I quote "if 75 percent (by value) or more of a car’s parts come from the U.S. or Canada, it’s considered a domestic product; less than that, and it’s not" and the mustang is below 65% American parts, which is probably why the Mustang brand has such a quality control issue. So technically, it's not even really an American car according to government standard regulation.
IF you don't believe me just do a google search on "Japanese parts on a Mustang" if you have the guts too. You'll be really surprised and Ford owners may be a bit saddened. I'm just glad that is not the case with my Corvette and all the wonderful things going on in Kentucky.

@supadupaflyplaya, while there is much motor, exhaust, tranny, etc., with American made parts by SVT, there is still much of the vehicle with imported parts. There is still a quality control issue even with the SVT's. They don't make mustang like they used to in the late 60's. Yes the Z is a super car and will win every time against a cobra, but the new Camaro ZL-1 will totally destroy the gt500 too in cornering, stability, and straight line runs.The Ford GT is the only thing they have done well
@ZR1KOH, I never stated it was 100% just said had more american made parts than v6, gt models. Who really cares if a fender or cup holder, etc... is made in mexico, japan, china. As long as the drivetrain is american made thats all that counts as thats the real heart of the vehicle. SVT's are more than 80% american made parts. SVT's dont use same ECU's,engine harness,suspension,brakes,axles,interior,etc.. as the v6,gt. Most of these amreican made, Ive never had a problem with my 04 terminator.
@ZR1KOH, The new Camaro ZL-1 which by they way also has alot of imported parts too will probably destroy gt500 in handling due to solid axle but has no chance against the 03-04 cobra terminator which has IRS too and much lighter. I have to say the terminator was one of the best mustangs built with Forged steel crankshaft,forged Manley H-beam rods, forged aluminum pistons, fully balanced and matched, aluminum 32-valve heads, aluminum flywheel,aluminum driveshaft,aluminum axle pumpkin, IRS
@ZR1KOH,Supercharged, air to water intercooler, engine oil cooler, power steering oil cooler, trans oil cooler,brembo rotors,bilstien shocks, upgraded springs. The Terminator can easily be modded upto 1000hp safely without having to do anything internally as its all high performance already. Add simple bolt ons(pulley,tune,exhaust,CAI) and you can smoke stock Z06 corvettes. Take the governor off with tune and the car tops out at 203mph. By far one of the best mustangs ever built next to Cobra R
@supadupaflyplaya, take it easy... All that time, effort, and money, it would be better for you to get a vette and a warranty to back it up. The ZR-1 will do 210 easy, and the ZO6 will do "203mph" with just a few mods that won't void the warranty. Less effort, time, and money and now you have a car that looks good too. However, if you like the back seats, the ZL-1 will rock any mustang stock! Again the best thing to date Ford has done is the GT, period, end of story, that car is bad ass.
@ZR1KOH, time and money... what r u talking about. CAI, Exhaust,Throttle Body,Pulley and Flash Tuner are all cheap... No more than 2grand for parts with vehicle only costing 40grand when it was new. Thats a better deal than the Z06 which cost 80grand new. A hellion twin turbo kit runs for $6,500 and will almost make 1000hp with good tune. The Z06 over priced for what it can do, for that price it should be more powerful. The ZR1 is the only corvette I respect.
The Z06 and terminator both come with 6-speed trans with exactly the same gear ratios. Ford installed governor to max out at 160mph, take governor off and they hit 203mph exactly like Z06. As for warranty just flash stock tune back on, install stock supercharger pulley which takes less than 15mins and take it in for service and they will never know.
@m2gunner50, dont know what cobra your thinking about... But the only Cobra that came with a Tremec T-56 6-speed was 03-04 Cobra Terminators. Ford was originally going to install Terminators with 3.27 gears in axle and a 6900rpm rev limit which was hitting 76mph in 1st. They thought this was too high so they installed 3.55 gears in axle and put rev limit at 6500rpm which left it slightly under 60mph. Over ride factory rev limit with flash tuner to 7000rpm it will hit 60mph in 1st.
@supadupaflyplaya looked at a few vids of cobra accelleration, looks like there hitting around 50+ in first, but 2nd only gets them to around 75? ill admit they must be closer geared than i thought but doesnt the z06 hit like 90+ in 2nd?
@m2gunner50, Rev limit on Z06 is 7000rpm, cobra set at 6500rpm. this is why zo6 hits higher speeds per shift, but with tune to 7000rpm they are right on each other. Change axle gears to 3.27 and the top speed is much taller. Alot of people change gears to 3.73 & 4.10 to accelerate faster and lose top speed including a lower speed per shift. Trans gears are the same on both, the only difference is axle gears and rev limit which affect at which speed they both shift at.
@Blank101ful or stick a bigger and bigger supercharger. I like the new 5.0 and its natural HP potential. It would be nice if Ford didnt rely on Superchargers for power and actually went the old school way like back in the 428 Cobra Jet days. That was an awesome engine.

@92rednotch cheap affordable sports cars designed to put a smile on your face. the were meant to be cheaper so more people could buy one, and you could get one in highschool, how many kids get a corvettte in highschool? as you can tell it worked for ford. i love corvettes and mustangs but they are two different classes: corvette: viper, lambo, ferarri, porsche, ford gt, and many other sports cars. mustangs: camaro, challenger, and other cars. both are great value and fun.

The Corvette Z06 is in the supercar class and falls in the same class as the Ford GT. A modded mustang that can beat a Corvette Z06 should be respected though seeing as it doesnt even fall in the supercar class.

@SuperSnake330CID an old 03/04 terminator is faster than the new gt500s actually. the gt500 weighs 4000lb and has 540hp and the old cobra weighed about 3300lb and was under-rated a bit at 390hp. they are both nice cars but you just cant compare them to a corvette z06. it has over 500hp natuarally aspirated and weighs 3200, so yes this is the correct outcome. i still love mustangs and corvettes thats just how it is.

@nickschmidt101, Total was a little over $2,000 total on just parts with custom tune. I installed everything myself except for custom tune which was done at a local dyno shop.

For me I see vettes everyday same with mustangs. I see c6 an ok it's coo. I see a z06 an that looks jus like a c6. I see mustang gt everyday. But when I see a 03 cobra or a gt500. I'm blown away. There badass looking. An they run wit vettes. I feel if I bought a gt500 I would turn more heads.
Everything else aside (brand preference), both Ford and Chevy have their merits, and both are a credit to American ingenuity and hot-rods in general. I've owned SVT Mustangs, and now a Z06 Corvette. The Z is hands down a dominate player in all things hot-rod. It does 1.1 G on the skid pad, traction enough to put 505 HP to the ground, 0-60 in <4 sec., and 60 -0 in <110 ft. And, the looks of the Z; well, ask your GF.

@ZR1KOH Its not a ford mustang product that is making that annoying wine sound. One of the biggest things to create "whine" is straight cut gears in the 'roots' blower drive. Straight cuts make noise, but are stronger because they don't try to push apart like helical gears do.
its not a gt500 its a terminator if u look at the rear view mirrors on the camera car, those are clearly 03/04 cobra, so that cobra had to be heavily modded to keep up with a STOCK vette

@marcomariaz26 It wouldn't matter if the vette lost, put both of them around the ring a couple of laps. Thats what the corvette is built for. Even though people really only use them for straight line. Its allot more fun to autocross than to drag, and its a ton of fun with my c4 vette.

@barcode0954 Were you looking at the Heffner GT1000? Or the HPE GT1000? The Heffner is like $300k and more then 1000hp, they just call it the GT1000. The HPE is like 997hp and runs 10.8-10.9, it's even on HPE's website.

@TiconderogaX I own a 5.0 now, but definitely have respect for GM as my previous vehicle was an LS1 Camaro and I loved the LT1 TA I had years back. 2012 Z06, I'm reading info from chevy.com. Chevy's site has 0-60 times for the 12 Z06 same as the 2011, which leads me to believe the 1/4 will be really close to the same also. Super Snake I've read from 11.7 to 11.8. The 750HP version of Super Snake can be had for 30K on top of the Cobra price, which should be right at or under 50K for coupe.

I did some work to my KR, (625 rwhp vs Z's 489 rwhp), and it's still 4 tenths slower in a 1/4. The KR gets tired after 3 consecutive runs while the Z gets faster, (Z will run all day without a whimper while the KR begins to break stuff after 3 runs, no joke) The KR would also never take a turn nearly as well as a base vette much less a Z. It's not meant to take turns fast, it's not a well balanced car. In spite of it's flaws, it's still great fun to drive, looks cool, and I'm happy to own it.

@patwwe I am an 08' Z06 owner... Haha the price difference it considerable. Mine was roughly $81K, a ZR1 starts at about $110k... The Z06 also has the potential to make a lot more power, due to the 7L V8... A supercharger pushing no more then 8psi will put you past 700bhp easily...

Interestingly enough, Car and Driver has an article on how much of the Mustang is American. I quote "if 75 percent (by value) or more of a car’s parts come from the U.S. or Canada, it’s considered a domestic product; less than that, and it’s not" and the mustang is below 65% American parts, which is probably why the Mustang brand has such a quality control issue. So technically, it's not even really an American car according to government standard regulation.

There is still a quality control issue even with the SVT's. They don't make mustang like they used to in the late 60's. Yes the Z is a super car and will win every time against a cobra, but the new Camaro ZL-1 will totally destroy the gt500 too in cornering, stability, and straight line runs.The Ford GT is the only thing they have done well

@ZR1KOH, I never stated it was 100% just said had more american made parts than v6, gt models. Who really cares if a fender or cup holder, etc... is made in mexico, japan, china. As long as the drivetrain is american made thats all that counts as thats the real heart of the vehicle. SVT's are more than 80% american made parts. SVT's dont use same ECU's,engine harness,suspension,brakes,axles,interior,etc.. as the v6,gt. Most of these amreican made, Ive never had a problem with my 04 terminator.

@ZR1KOH,Supercharged, air to water intercooler, engine oil cooler, power steering oil cooler, trans oil cooler,brembo rotors,bilstien shocks, upgraded springs. The Terminator can easily be modded upto 1000hp safely without having to do anything internally as its all high performance already. Add simple bolt ons(pulley,tune,exhaust,CAI) and you can smoke stock Z06 corvettes. Take the governor off with tune and the car tops out at 203mph. By far one of the best mustangs ever built next to Cobra R

The ZR-1 will do 210 easy, and the ZO6 will do "203mph" with just a few mods that won't void the warranty. Less effort, time, and money and now you have a car that looks good too. However, if you like the back seats, the ZL-1 will rock any mustang stock! Again the best thing to date Ford has done is the GT, period, end of story, that car is bad ass.

Thats a better deal than the Z06 which cost 80grand new. A hellion twin turbo kit runs for $6,500 and will almost make 1000hp with good tune. The Z06 over priced for what it can do, for that price it should be more powerful. The ZR1 is the only corvette I respect.

The Z06 and terminator both come with 6-speed trans with exactly the same gear ratios. Ford installed governor to max out at 160mph, take governor off and they hit 203mph exactly like Z06. As for warranty just flash stock tune back on, install stock supercharger pulley which takes less than 15mins and take it in for service and they will never know.

@m2gunner50, dont know what cobra your thinking about... But the only Cobra that came with a Tremec T-56 6-speed was 03-04 Cobra Terminators. Ford was originally going to install Terminators with 3.27 gears in axle and a 6900rpm rev limit which was hitting 76mph in 1st. They thought this was too high so they installed 3.55 gears in axle and put rev limit at 6500rpm which left it slightly under 60mph. Over ride factory rev limit with flash tuner to 7000rpm it will hit 60mph in 1st.

@m2gunner50, Rev limit on Z06 is 7000rpm, cobra set at 6500rpm. this is why zo6 hits higher speeds per shift, but with tune to 7000rpm they are right on each other. Change axle gears to 3.27 and the top speed is much taller. Alot of people change gears to 3.73 & 4.10 to accelerate faster and lose top speed including a lower speed per shift. Trans gears are the same on both, the only difference is axle gears and rev limit which affect at which speed they both shift at.

The Corvette Z06 is in the supercar class and falls in the same class as the Ford GT. @SuperSnake330CID an old 03/04 terminator is faster than the new gt500s actually. the gt500 weighs 4000lb and has 540hp and the old cobra weighed about 3300lb and was under-rated a bit at 390hp. they are both nice cars but you just cant compare them to a corvette z06. it has over 500hp natuarally aspirated and weighs 3200, so yes this is the correct outcome. i still love mustangs and corvettes thats just how it is.

For me I see vettes everyday same with mustangs. I see c6 an ok it's coo. I see a z06 an that looks jus like a c6. I see mustang gt everyday. But when I see a 03 cobra or a gt500. I'm blown away. There badass looking. An they run wit vettes. I feel if I bought a gt500 I would turn more heads.

Everything else aside (brand preference), both Ford and Chevy have their merits, and both are a credit to American ingenuity and hot-rods in general. I've owned SVT Mustangs, and now a Z06 Corvette. The Z is hands down a dominate player in all things hot-rod. It does 1.1 G on the skid pad, traction enough to put 505 HP to the ground, 0-60 in <4 sec., and 60 -0 in <110 ft. And, the looks of the Z; well, ask your GF.

@ZR1KOH Its not a ford mustang product that is making that annoying wine sound. One of the biggest things to create "whine" is straight cut gears in the 'roots' blower drive. Straight cuts make noise, but are stronger because they don't try to push apart like helical gears do.

its not a gt500 its a terminator if u look at the rear view mirrors on the camera car, those are clearly 03/04 cobra, so that cobra had to be heavily modded to keep up with a STOCK vette

2 different classes of cars. One is a 2-seater only for racing, the other actually has a back seat, people. Apples and oranges. IF the vette lost, Chevy should close up shop asap, to be honest...

@marcomariaz26 It wouldn't matter if the vette lost, put both of them around the ring a couple of laps. Thats what the corvette is built for. Even though people really only use them for straight line. Its allot more fun to autocross than to drag, and its a ton of fun with my c4 vette.

Z06 = $74,300
GT500 = $48,700
...not sure what planet you live on, but here on earth...a difference of more than $25,000.00 is nowhere near the same.
The new GT500 has always come from the factory with an eaton supercharger since re-introduction in 2006 (MY07)
The performance package adds a whopping ZERO hp/tq gain...

@barcode0954 Were you looking at the Heffner GT1000? Or the HPE GT1000? The Heffner is like $300k and more then 1000hp, they just call it the GT1000. The HPE is like 997hp and runs 10.8-10.9, it's even on HPE's website.

ZR1 - 638 horsepower, 0-60 in 3.2 seconds, 1/4mile in 11.2 at @130.5 mph
GT500 Super Snake - 750 hp, 0-60 in 4.1 seconds, 1/4 mile in 12.0 @ 120 mph
The super snake doesnt stand a chance against a car that weighs 600 lbs less even if it has 112 more horses. The Super Snake can barely beat the Z06 and thats with a 250 horsepower advantage. Not only that but a stock vette can beat a GT500 hands down.
