My Cairn terrier is named Dexter too! He's a black brindle. They are such great dogs. He trained quickly. He gets bored quickly, but has figured out if he drops his ball at the top of the stairs, he can play fetch by himself.
@bexymjpop keep them in a fairly small area that you are in. so you can keep a very close eye on your dog. That way if they start to go in the house you are there ready to stop it. take them out often, so they don't have a chance to go in the house. give them a treat every time they do their business outside. Cairns are notoriously hard to house break and it takes real effort on your part.
Sure be very consistent. go out with your pup every time until it does its business then praise. Some people use treats too. These dogs are hard to house train, be prepared for a rough few months. Also get on the cairn terrier forum for more tips.
That is awesome that your pup is training so well at such a very young age...that is proof of the pudding that Cairns are one of the smartest dogs there are !!...yeahhhhhh..good job!...we raise Cairns, and enjoy them very much!...thanks for the show!

What a good dog! I may be a little biased as Dex is my nephew and all. I was hoping I would be the first comment, stupid Jeremy. Just kidding!!!
