what's with all the philosophical talk? these things are overpriced industrial manipulators...that will have no application in the real industry (there is a reason why people weren't designing them to be humanoid in the first place...no need, a simple robo-arm will do).
These might look anthoropomorph but are not anthropofunctional (they don't function like humans do)...humans would have put this thing together three times faster and would learn how to do it 10 times faster than these things.
when you can program a robot just speaking to it, and you say "put that shit over it" and it reprograme its servos to do that task the simple jobs will get over.
To all the luddites talking about loss of jobs - this will mean robots do the dirty and boring jobs whilst we get to do more interesting ones. Secondly, full employment is easy, the Egyptians had it when building the pyramids - it is the quality of jobs that counts.
Hi. Aprox by the year 2020 a laptop will reach the human brain potential for processing data which means that there is a huge market waiting for hundreds of billions dollars to be sold or invested in humanoid robots and intelligent systems and the beginning of the bigger industry ever maid in human history. Search on Google luisbeck007 you will find the most complete humanoid robot list in the World, good information and interesting issues.
I do not think so...just like computers, robots just can't think by themselves; they use pre-defined programs, they are not humans, have no feelings;and will NEVER have ...stop believing that Terminator is true...it was just some kind of modern epic, nothing more ! No matter how modern and advanced the robots will be in the future, they will always be submitted to humans and will never try to dominate them, since auto-determination just can be applied to programmed machines...
You forget we keep creating AI (Artificial Intelligence) programs on computers. It won't be long till someone decide to put something like that on a robot. Making it capable for robots to deduct that humans are their own worst enemy, therefore must be eliminated. And since they have no feelings, "off with their heads," they'll say. Honda's Asimo is one of the few humanoid that has an AI chip. It can respond to "questions', not commands like others.
It's not that simple. Everything that we think and feel is controlled by our brain. There is no magic anything that makes life anything more than an extremely complex machine. Even if we never manage to develop self aware AI, there's still emulation. Simulate each and every thing that a brain does, simulate hormones and how they react. The result will be a self aware machine, even if it thinks exactly like a human.
That said, paranoia is stupid. People need to stop anthropomorphizing AI.
But the fact is, there is absolutely no reason why autonomous, thinking machines is impossible. You can say that they'll just be programming, but so are we. Life isn't special, it just happens to be the most complicated thing in the universe at the moment. At the moment, the only thing standing in our way is understanding of exactly how consciousness works, and the hardware that would be necessary to run something that complicated. The second one at least won't be an issue for much longer.
My belief on the universe is that the entire universe is a living thing which strives toward complexity. If you look at evolution, for instance, it's all about trying random new things, and if they end up more complex than the previous generation, they are kept, otherwise the deck is shuffled and a new attempt is made. I think that galactic strands, galaxies, solar systems, stars, etc. are also life forms on this same struggle for complexity, supernovae being the shuffling of their deck.

The future is here
those robots are more efficient than their counterparts the humans, but I wonder who is going to have money to spend if nobody has a job.

No one will need a job, because eventually we won't need money.

I'm sure the robots are thinking, "Can't wait till We get our own powerpack and weapons. WORLD DOMINATION!!!"
