  • the most important thing that you should know is that the "w" is just like the "v" in english.. so "wie geht es dir" sounds like VEE-GAYT-ES-DEAR. dear as in the begining of a letter.

  • Ist doch gut für den Anfang :)

  • ..learning new a language is fun!.. I like German language its a fun learning.. x]

  • Fugly!

  • keep going :)

deutsch -> just speak that englisch

wie geht es dir -> Vi gayt esss Dear

mir geht es gut -> Mihr gayt esss guhht

gute nacht -> guhhte Na chrrrt (not as a k more as a c)

aufwiedersehen -> auhhfwidseine (seine like in french)

    ahhh - behhh - cehhh - dehhh - ehhh - eefff - geehh (g like the start of gay) - haa - iihhh - jottt - kahh - ehhl - ehmm - ehnn - ohh - pehhh - kuh or quh - err - ess - tehh - uhh - fauhh - wehhh - iks or x - yüpsilon - zett

  • "how are you" seems similar to "We gates deer"

  • Pronunciation for the #s Einz z-vei drei fier funf zecs seeben ocht noin ten I'm not sure that I translated the pronunciations into writing okay, but hope this helps!
  • vee gayt ess deer (:

    meer gayt ess gut.

    Auf-veeder-zehn

    and so on :P

  • @Itchtaca

    hahahah best subtitle ever !!!!!

    biß spirter

einz zwai dry fier fünp sex sierben aqt nön zern :-)

  • Wow... I thought I had pronunciation problems xD don't worry though, you'll get better, and since this video was made over 2 years ago, I'll take an educated guess that you're a lot better now :) I have trouble rolling my r's too, but only with some words.

"Bruder" is one that always gets me, but NOTHING gets me like "Reparieren". Practice always makes perfect though.

  • vier is just like "fear" ^^ with a German r of course . This video made me smile all through :D I love your effort

  • Just say "Wie geht es dir?" like "Vee get es deer?". Two of the other ones are (more or less) "Meer get es goot" and "Ouf veedersehen.". I hope that helps, although I am sure your German has developed since you posted the video.

  • sounds soooo cute :)

    liebe grüße aus deutschland

  • Sounds quite good!

Love from England (once more haha) xx

  • Hey,

WIE GEHT ES DIR is pronounced roughly as VEE GATE ES DEER? Then you just have to German it up a little bit, and ta da!

    Greetings from England xx

  • Hi ! one important thing you may know the best way to learn a language and improve it is .speak with your self no problem if you got a languag book .perhaps Maybe i know 70 languges or 27 yet .bla bla .i am to talkative .Although i can speak German ..listen it very easy to say that .i know French. Arabic . Vietnamese.anyhow . i wonder if you can add me . agra2987@yahoo.com .i'll add u on utube .lolz, listen good try .

  • I'm a little late commenting, sorry. haha. Well, if you have an more questions I'm available. I speak 5 languages fluently. My first language is English.

  • (Eye as in Eyeball. lol) Eye-nz. Tsf-eye. Dr-eye. F-eer. F(ue)nf. Zeks. Zee-ben. Ah-cht. Noyn. Ts-ehn. This is coming from someone whose first language isn't German. I'm using English interjections. A lot of Germans don't understand this method. Like for the word "Um" in German, to teach it, I would spell it as "Owm" in our language as an Eng.Interjection even though the W is NOT pronounced; it's only to help an Americans. And for "Bring" in German, "BrEE-nk" in English etc. Hope I helped you!

  • yeah why not naked? try to speak: fischers fritze fischt frische fische. frische fische fischt fischers fritze. ;) oder: der dachdecker deckt dein dach, drum dank dem dachdecker, der dein dach deckt....

  • Wie ghet = vee get . Guten morgen (: good job ! auf weidersehan

  • You don't need to roll the "R" - only Bavarians do so.

Our "SP + ST" sound shp + sht, the german "Z" sounds "TS".

    V sounds "F" most times

Your "ch" works quite fine - keep on!

  • the "w" makes the "v" sound

  • We get ass dear?....quite good*lol*

  • i knew what you were saying but your 1-10 was kinda bad but you did a good job in the most part !!!

  • Very good german =) I understood you ;)

You are cute and i like youre vid...thats why i tag you !! (video answer) =)

    greetings from germany :3

  • Wie geht es dir?

    vee gheyt ess deer

  • We get ass dear??? *lol*

  • Jonas is my real name =)

some words u musst learn, the best is what u do at end, speak with a sound

  • auf Wiedersehen sounds like Auf Veeder-saine. "W" sounds like "V" most times in Deutsche.

I.E. Wonderful = Wundervoll, which sounds like Vundervoll. Or you can say Wunderbar, but the first I used is a more literal translation.

Its hard at first for us English speakers, because our phonetics have changed slightly over the past 1500 years since English broke away from our Frisian forefathers which came from The Netherlands, Denmark and Germany. This is why much of English is so close to German.

  • vee geet es dear.

  • cute cat =D

  • "geht" is pronounced like the english word "gate"

  • @Passy666 are you crazy?

  • @Passy666 what the fuck are you talking about gate don't sound like geht

  • @Passy666 It would actually sound more like the Irish pronunciation of "gate": aka "geet"

  • @Passy666 not quite, but it's difficult to ddescribe it with english vowels

  • wie geht es dir

    wie = viiii

geht = you cant pronounce h. its more like a breath

  • @khosrow the 'h' in geht is actual a glottal maker because actually the word 'geht' is 'gehet' (you don't pronounce the 'h' !

  • make sure when you end a word with a b it is actually a airy p.

  • Its pronounced as ''vee gate ess deer'' its pretty simple.

oh and ''auf vee der zehn''

Remember the ''W'' it pronounced as ''V''

Please mail me if you need any more help! I'd be more than happy to help :)

  • if you are still interested in learning german, mail me :P

I want to work on my english, too .. why not helping each other :]

  • ha, i love how she was watching speedy's video as she says it. :)

  • You speek it, like you're afraid of it. You seem to know it, just push ahead. Your teacher should have had you learn to sing the german alfabet like I did.

  • Ich heiße ---

    Eesh haisseh ---

    My Name is ---

  • You're such a cute canadian!

And your doing a pretty good job!

German is a crappy language to learn.

Glad I didn't have to, haha.

  • Wie gehts es dir?

    Guten Abend!

  • Kiwi is cool - keep her - she's a native German and a good teacher!

  • German pronounciation is quite easy - much more phonetical than english.

Our vowels and consonants never change noise.

Your "ch" works quite good - congrats!

  • ahaha!

    omg

    conversation with yourself!

    haha

  • Yes W sound like a V in German

  • Not bad please remember following:

Wie geht's dir = vee gates dear

    Guten Tag= gooten tahk

Look a up German pronounciation guide. W is pronounced as v

  • really good (i am from germany) i understood everything ;)

  • gutE nacht !^^

    aber schon gut^^

  • Okay, hope that helps. If you pronounce only the parts in brakets, and combine them as marked, you will get pretty close to the natural sounding. Don't pronounce the parts outside the brakets.

    - [vi]sa [gay + d] [ass] [dear]

    - keep trying on "Nacht" (night) ;-)

    - c[ow + f] [vi]sa_[dir]t_[z]_s[ay + n]

    - [b]_k[iss] [sh]rine_[bay]_[t]_d[ir]t

    - 4 = [fear]

    - 9 = [n]_m[ine]

    - 10 = ba[ts]_s[ay + n]

    Hope that helps!

    Lue

  • i wonder if im pronouncing it right as well.

  • Wie Geht es Der is pronounced like this: Vee get es der. The W is pronounced like a V.

Nacht, as in Guten nacht, is pronounced Naacht. Make sure you make the a sound, you were making an O sound, but good attempt. =)

Auf Wiedersehen is a little harder for English speakers sometimes. It's said this way:

Auf (Sounds like off) Wiedersehen= Vee-der-zane- The sehen could be said the way it sounds, like vee-der-zay-in, but you will always hear it pronounced vee-der-zane.

  • my family are german well some of them.

  • Very good. I think, many people in the world have problems with our letters "ch". Ansonsten ist dein deutsch eigentlich recht gut.

  • wee gayt es deer :P

  • wie (viiiii) geht (geeeet) es (es) dir (diiiiir) so this is the pronounciation!! if u have skyp i can tell u!

  • "Geht" is actually pronounced "Geh-t", just like it sounds :P

  • Great attempt! full points for giving it a go, instead of giving it away. The only way to learn is to listen carefully to each word and repeat it til you are comfortable with it. There is an online course that will email you 6 free lessons, look up rocketlanguages. And practice all the time until your friends put a sock in your mouth. I find it helpful to put on a German accent while saying the words, even if it seems strange.

  • Last word of advice, make sure you are saying the word the right way before you go repeating it again and again. It is so hard to "unlearn" soemthing you have learnt incorrectly.

Once again great video Michelle, I might try to do one too, in the near future.

  • hey gutes video irgendwie mag ich es ;-)

das hört sich gernicht mal so schlecht an ...viel spass noch beim lernen oder sprechen oder fallst du mal hier nach deutschland kommen solltes ;-)

  • Wow.. German really isn't as hard as you make it out to be.. The alphabet is basically the exact same as the English alphabet with the acception of ö,ä,ü and ß.

  • vee gate es deer

  • Wie geht es dir

  • Remember that ALL w's in German are pronounced like v's. And when you have an umlouted noun (with the dots above it) you have to kinda flatten your mouth at bit. It's hard to explain, but yes.

Wie geht es dir is pronounced Vee gate ess deer. To respond, you would say "es geht mir gut", pronounced ess gate meer goot.

bis spa"ter is pronounced just "biss spaater"

Remember the w's as v's thing!!

I have been taking german for two years, so if you have any more questions, i'd be glad to help!

  • The umloats can best be described as a long vowel in English. (such as für = fuer, and can be spelled both für or fuer)

  • Ok sorry didn't listen properly forget that last comment

  • how are you: Wie geht es Ihnen

is pronounced: veer gate(soft a) es eenen

    hope that helps.

  • it is ok keep working on it

  • du warst fein, aber das deutsche Aussprache ist etwas unterschiedliches dann Englisch.

  • Gesundheit...

    not that good :D

  • lol nicht ganz

das hast du gut gemacht, aber die deutsche und englische aussprache ist sehr unterschiedlich ;)

  • ^^ it was okay, but in germany you have the beneficial. Somebody can speak english ;D

I know my english is bad but i think you understand me too :D

  • haha, you're cute. and you're not doing that bad, you know... just keep practicing! ;)

  • If you need help, ask me.. cause I´m from Germany I can help you with the grammar and so on..

  • Okay so "aufwiedersehen" can seem overwhelming but I'll break it down.

    Auf=ouf

    wieder=veeder

    sehen=sayen

    Good job though! :D

  • das is witzig ^^ voll süß :D

nicht aufgeben, du schaffst das schon ^^

  • hot girl if wasnt emo

  • Wow I aspirare a parlare tedesco, perché l'accento è molto diverso dal mio,

  • This is so funny (das ist so lustig)!

Sorry. I am mean. I can not speack English better than you can speak German, I suppose. ^^

It is "Wie geht es dir" with a long e because there is a h which streches the letter.

And you have to say "Bis später" differently.

But I think this has to be very difficult for you because there is no "ä" in English.

But the rest was quite good :)

    Don't give up! ^^

    Liebe Grüße, Isabella

  • germans dont roll the r . a lot of them dont even can roll the r.

  • if you live in Austria or Swizterland....a lot of people roll their "R" there

  • There is a slight trill of the r found in German. Moreso in German than English for sure, but not a hard roll. The difference is found regionaly. My grandparents are Danube Swabians (Donauschwaben) and we roll our r's slightly, such is in "das Radio".

Also, unrequited2, Wie geht's dir should be pronounced: Vee gates deer. Many just say Wie geht's (depending on formality). Bis später is: bis shpater (long a) or shpeter (as in bet). It's a combination of the long a and short e for später.

  • ok i can help you with all of this, but im not shure i can do it on this comment, anyway, the hello and morgen and stuff. Ok guten tag is a og sound like frog not tag. Guten nocht all you need ot do is a flem sound deep in the throat. And last one ill od on the comment is Aufweidersehen, say it like this ow fieder sehn. If you get Xfire i can teach you it easier pm me on youtube for more help xD its hard to explain via comment.

  • You say it like Vee Gets Deer

  • If you think, german pronunciation is hard, then try something like dutch, arabic or maybe klingon har har.

And if you wanna know how to roll the R right just listen to some german music like "Rammstein" during practice

  • german W is pronouced like the english V

german V is pronouced like the english F

also, you're saying the alphabet in english... you should listen to it a few times before trying to say it with her.

  • wie geht's gut = vee gets goot (said like that)

  • oops i meant dir instead of gut lolzzz

so dir is pronounced like "deer"

  • Wie geht es dir?

    =

We get (pronounce the e longer then normal) as dear?

  • vee gayt es deer, gootin tog, bis spayter, and svai. just remember: w = v, v = f, s = z, and j = y. g's at the end of a end of a sentence = ch, d = t, and b = p. nice first try!

  • Warum sagt sie eigentlich statt "ch" immer "ck"?

    lol Strange! I think so.

  • ich finds geil.

    keep pactice

  • If I could I would come through my computer and into your computer and be your personal german tutor! then you could speak german perfectly! but too bad that don't work...

  • u say it as 'vi gets es dir' i study here in vienna university its hard at first

  • you've been doing quite nice. as already mentioned, there's a big difference between the english and german pronounciation of "v" and "w", but i'm sure you're gonna make it! not sure if you still keep track of the comments on your video, but i'm happy to see foreigners making such efforts in learning our language! good luck.

  • well im german so let me say this W or said like V like Walker would be Valker guten Tag is right and your doing good and rolling Rs is hard but keep at it well :)

  • armleuchter

  • "v gate s deer" would be closer. cause we as americans pronounce "get" differently than "gate" and "gate" is closer sounding to "geht" than "get" is.

  • Why thank you! :)

  • GAY!.... i can speak better...no offense....

  • W in german is V in english....wie (V) was (vas) warum (Varum).

  • @sbiwien3 no. i am german. and you DONT say Vas, if you mean what. you say it, as you speak it. really. and you say nAcht. aufwiiieeederseHen. but, to unrequited2 you are quiet good.

  • okay, if there is a "eu" in a German word, like in "neun", it has to be pronounced like "noin".

Well, after all those helping comments, I want another video with your new pronunciation. Would be great to see if it actually helped you! :)

  • I leave for Paris tomorrow, so when I get back I will make one! :D

  • cool, send me a message then, please. :)

    And have fun in Paris.

  • Thanks!

  • aaaa!!!, now i know what you are trying to say **wie geht's

    ok you pronounce it like

    vie gates

    "W" makes a vee sound

and "g" makes a gay sound

  • that was pretty well... especially without much training...

if you want to pronounce "wie geht es dir?" try "we get es deer" ;)

as for those who think it's bad... remember when you tried to speak English for the first time... :P

  • i think your problem is that you pronounce the german w wrong insted use v

Viel Glück, und halten Sie beim Versuch, bye!

    =]

  • Hello requited2,

you do quite a good job on our language which is in general quite hard to learn for foreigners :)

You too seem to have problems with our pronounciation of "ch" which isn't pronounced as "k" its a bit more like a slight sigh. Sounds dumb but that it is yet the only way I know how to describe it for an english-speaking person :P

If you wish I could try to explain you how to better pronounce german words or first the ABC. :)

  • Wie geht es dir (VEE gayt S duur) i hope that helps the es is like the letter S.

    Guten Tag (GOO-ten tahk)

    Auf Wiedersehen (owf VEE-der-say-en)

    Hallo (hah-LOH)

    Guten Abend (GOO-ten AH-bend)

    Gute Nacht (GOO-tuh nakht)

    Guten Morgen (GOO-ten MOR-gen)

The main problems i saw, was that you said "w" like a english w. And you were a little off with pronounciation. But that's okay. I'll message you with some great sites that helped me out. You don't need to be able to roll rr's. Keep it up Essie

  • wie geht es dir... i can't explain how to say it xD you know the french yes "oui"? the first word (wie) sounds a little bit like that. geht... like get with a lot e's.. geeeeet...^^ es... i think^that was well^^ dir... like dear^^ hope that helps a little

  • Cool :] Yours was the first video i watched on YouTube :] Good job!

  • Sweet, thanks!

  • Ur 2 cute :3

  • Why thank you!

  • Wow, is german really so hard to pronounce?!

You have to learn a lot but hang on.

    Tschüß

  • HAHA yeah.... some words!

  • Your cutie D: keep it up!!!

  • Thank you :)

  • hey...i like your video and your German is really cute =) If you practice the "ch" a bit, everyone here will understand you !

  • *lol* thats cute. I can understand everything but "Wie geht es dir". You should learn to pronounce a long "I"... For example you say (english pronounced) "dire" instead of "deer", when you want to say "dir".

Apart from that, your "ch" is wrong, but this is typical *lol*

But thank you for the vid. It's funny for a german.

(sorry for my english, it's not the best, too ^^)

  • no offence but I found ur accant abit funny even though I dont know German but lve to learn so maybe u could teach me lol

  • HAHA thanks! :)

    I find it funny too.

  • HAHA thanks! :)

    I find it funny too.

  • Not that bad at all. I think it would be better if you would not force yourself to pronounce it in a certain way. "Nacht" for example. Simply say "Nackt" (that naked one), its okay if a native english speaking person says is that way. For "vier", simply say "fear".

  • Thank you!

  • lol, it's so sweet how you pronounced it! xD

    really cute.

  • Hahaha thanks! :D

  • If you don't understand some words I'll help you :-)

  • Hahahahahaha :D :D :D :D

  • the way you pronounce the words is sooooo ute xDD

    i'm german ^^

  • haha thanks! :)

  • Viel Glück mit Ihrem Deutsch!

  • here i'll try to help on number 1-10 their pronounced like this: 1 - eince 2 - tswayy 3 - drei 4 - feer 5 - foomf 6 - zeks 7 - zeeben 8 - achht 9 - noyin 10 - tzain
  • pronounce it like this -vee get es deer-

  • -or-

    vee get es dear xD

  • Aufwiedersehen sounds like onswedensea^^

  • German language in da house JAAA^^

  • Hahaha yes!

  • not naked? hahaha

  • HAHAHA :D

  • cute :D

  • Thank you :)

  • omg so cute

  • Thanks.

  • It is such a gorgeous language but I know I'd never get it right.

  • Yes it is!!

  • Ok, Guten tag sounds good. Btw, Danke - is pronounced don-ka. Number 6 is not sex... It's pronounced zeks. (sech) You'll get better trust me;) It's quite some hard. but just believe thats all I can say. I'm 13 I speak russian, english, french, german. Took lessons, practiced hours a day.

  • Oh my gosh, you are talented when it comes to speaking languages! I definitely envy you! :)

Thanks, I will make an updated video! :D

  • oh and "guten tag" is said like guhten tawg dont give up though! youre really doing good! german is an amazing language! :) it seems difficult at first, but once you get the hang of pronunciations its super easy, i promise. :) oh and "Tchuss" is informal. the numbers: eins- you said that good! zwei- zvi (long i) drei- dry vier- fear funf- good job! sechs- zeks (kinda sounds like sex haha) sieben- zeeben acht- good! neun- noin (like like the noi in noise) zehn- zayhn
  • like i was saying..

im going to show you how to congegate verbs using gehen, which means go.

    ich(i)- geh(e)

    du(you)- geh(st)

    er/sie/es(he/she/it)- geh(t)

    wir(we)- geh(en)

    Sie/sie( formal you/ plural you)- geh(en)

and when you are commanding someone you leave of all endings. so if i were to tell you in english, "go!" auf deutsch that would be "geh!"

therfor the response to how are you shouldnt be gehen, but geht, because you say "es geht" meaning "it goes".

  • guten morgen was perfekt! sehr gut gemacht. :) (good job)

ok but a few tips: "w" is pronounced like "v". so, wie gehts? (how are you) is pronounced like this: vee gaytz.

    and s is more like a z...

ok in the beginning you said, "wir geht es gut." but you have to congegate the verb. wir means we. and when the noun is plural the verb ends in "en". so the response to "wie gehts?" should be "es geht mir gut."

i have more to say, but im running out of remaining characters, so i have to post another

  • lol thats so cool^^...i would help you but i have not ideo how to explain that^^lol.....but guten tag and guten morgen was right^^

  • Yes, they are my best! :D

  • German is an easy language if you hear it from a person who speaks fluently like

Auf Wiedersen=(or sounds like) Auf Veedezane or Veedezen which means goodbye

  • Yes! :)

That is my favourite word to say because I can say it right, though I don't think I did in this video.

I am awesome at saying; guten morgen :D

  • When americans or canadiens say the word "Bratwurst" i always start loughing it sound so funny when you know how it would be pronounced right.I whish i could talk like you with this cool american/canadien slang but we learn to speak with the gay english slang in school.

  • I will teach you bad English slang! :P

  • this is adorable! lol I only know gutentagg...my aunt and uncle used to live in Germany so they can speak it though.

  • haha thanks! :)

  • so

first of all you forgot me

and you should pronounce it like this

    WE KEETS DIA

maybe this will help you ..;)

  • Sorry!

    Thanks!!

  • Some german music if u interested in it:

    v=2SoW5-tLe-U

    v=3X788-LPZ0w

    v=k0iWDOplOwk

    v=9pkLDEEs20U

    v=4OjVg8L9CWM

    v=T6MVM3owjAs&feature=related

wish you a nice day (or night dont now your time in that moment)

  • Thanks! :)

    (it's night.. well 2am)

  • My Englishteacher told us sometimes that English speaking people cant say much voices we use very often.

He sayed for example the "Sch"-"St" Ö an Ü and they say a German K when they should say the Ch.

Now i can see it in your Video!

But i think its not so bad for your first Attempt speaking an other language.

If you want learn also German Grammar and Spelling i must tell you that our Language is much more Complex in this 2 things that the easy language english ;)

  • German is definitely very complex!!!!

  • But you have big advantage over East Asians or Africans because the roots of English is indeed in the Old geerman as brought from the sachsen immigrants to Britain.

It is only with time strongly with the French mixed.

  • I noticed that I can make the right sounds for... ummm "nacht"

  • good because in your video its sound not like the german word for night its sounds like u would say nude.

U wont say "Nacht" u sound like "Nackt"

  • Yes, I realized I kept saying naked :D

  • Funny :D

  • HAHA thanks!
