  • The Victor Hotel in Victor, Colorado has a nice operating 1900 Otis birdcage elevator.

  • @dishpan22 Thanks for the information on the elevator at the Victor Hotel. If I ever get up that way I will have to pay a visit to that historic building. It looks like that may be the only elevator in town. I looked up the hotel up and found a picture of the elevator at this link

  • What did he say was the only one on this side of the Mississippi? As far as modernized cage elevators, there is one in a bathhouse in Hot Springs that has been modernized by Otis to operate off of push button controls and yet still has the old crank still inside. LittleRockElevators has it on his channel I believe. VERY nice elevator.

  • @neaelevator I just viewed the elevator you mentioned. It's at the Fordyce Bathhouse. While it is an oldie with the original cab, it did not appear to be a cage-type like the one I filmed. Also, the front of the cab has been totally replaced, not just the button panel but the door and door frame. I filmed an elevator similar to that one with the entire front end replaced and it looks so out of place considering the rest of the cab. That is what that elevator reminded me of.

  • What the guy may have been referring to is that this may be the only cage-type elevator on "this side of the Mississippi". He could be mistaken. This elevator also still has the original hand crank but it could not be seen because the cab is so dark. Note that the door is still original even though it is motorized and the button panel - though modern - does not look obviously out of place, it blends into the original design.

  • I still love this elevator!

The Richardson Building here in Leominster USED to have one of those. It was ripped out and replaced with a bland In-Ground hydro (1970's).

Wish it was still there, and had a VERY RESPECTFUL MODERNIZATION, like this elevator has.

  • @georgef551 Well that sucks! You would think out in your area they would be trying to preserve their historic buildings more including the elevators. Hydros are wack!

  • @NEXPAR

At least the 1904 MPE is still original, outside of the drywall that lines the 1970's elevator shaft. I got to do a video on that.
