I'll probably be killed for even mentioning his name, but the good times ended when Sammy left the band. Van Halen was completely badass before him and with him they were arguably as good or better, but as soon as he left, VH lost what made them the best band in the world. Tattoo and the three songs that were written for the album Best of Both Worlds are absolute proof of this. Van Halen's worst song before those four, David or Sammy, is still way better than them.

Sorry people, I don't mean to rant and rave. I just remember when things were easier, that's all.
@MrMegaFredzeppelin Thanks BRO. You're cool. Some people would read my last comment and give me a negative reply. None of my friends have ever done that to me. That's why I value all my friends.
Diver Down was the first album edited in México, and I used to listen Van Halen all time between 1982-1985; they're a main part in the soundtrack of my youth and life...!!!
That's the kinda song that makes you wanna put on some blue jeans, a white t-shirt, black sunglasses, light up a cigarette and just be the coolest mutha-fucka in your town lol!!
@elvispresley718 Dude, go to hell. bruce Springstein sucks, and you know it. Eddie Van Halen is IT. I'm a ten year old GIRL, and I have Van Halen on my Ipod- Diver Down. Listen to some good music and maybe you'll get your effing facts right.
These guys with their racist/homophoebic argue-comments are so tough behind their keyboards. Why don't they use their neighbors wi-fi connection to look for a job?! Laughable man... HA!!!
This guy I know named Rich M from Canada but now living in the USA. He is a scum bag, I am pretty sure he continually has sand in his vagina. Biggest punk I ever met.
@mr198221 - Montrose was OK. I'm just saying that Van Halen was such a different band - such a BETTER band - with Dave, that if you liked Hagar's crap, or his versions of early VH, you never REALLY liked Van Halen. The music was better when David Lee Roth was the front man - period.
@RManFlint i can see that you are pretty angry, and maybe losing sleep over this. just try to keep perspective here, brohammer. elvis sang covers. and before him, coltrane played covers. and before him, the london philharmonic played covers. this is a great song. you dont like it? sweet. go blast Aurthur on your 8track hi-fi. the rest of us will listen to what we like, and quietly and without so much as an embolism move on to some other song. its that easy.

@RManFlint Actually more of an ACDC fan so I've heard. You know....ACDC?.....A real band. Not a Jew lead singer and a coke addict guy who plays little tricks on his guitar instead of actually PLAYING the fucking thing.
@RManFlint If ACDC ever makes a mistake and writes a "new" song that don't sound like ACDC,that will be the end of their career. It's funny how every one of gay ass Van Halens hits are a Kinks remake. They suck.Face it.

@iamjakt You love Van Halen and don't like Springsteen. I was going to give you more credit, but you did comfirm my opinion of your tastes in music. Geez.
Van Halen with DLR and Sammy Hagar kicked ass. I was a Van Halen nut the first time I heard Atomic Punk in 1978 I was 11 years old. I was a Hagar fan for life in 1979 when I heard Montrose. Can I get a hell yah "Rock Candy". This music is timeless. Van Halen is kick ass.
MY TAKE: VH and SH were greater individually than the sum of their parts. I saw both bands live before and after the mind-meld, and pre mashup they both rocked harder. The Van Hagar stuff was great radio pop but not the balls-out rock that both Halen and Hagar were known for. BUT THAT'S JUST ME TALKIN!
However, David Lee Roth was the Bomb. I remember hearing VH for the firs time it was cutting edge because of that combo of Eddies guitar accent by that one of a kind voice. Hagar was OK though.
Helluva version. LOVE. This song is fantastic no matter who does it. I love Bowie's version, of course Kinks but... even Van Halen rocks it. Not that I don't love Van Halen, but well, I'm not big on covers. This rocks though. It's just so great a song.
I liked them with David and liked them with Sammy. No reason to choose sides. It's like picking apples or oranges as a favorite...why not enjoy both? Kind of like ACDC, both Bon or Bruce had great songs, why limit yourself to one or the other?
Van Hagar is like a kid born because of a failed condom: A mistake that shouldnt have happend, and a bitch to hear about. Van Halen with DLR is like sex in summer on the california beach with a real fine babe. a bottle of jack and a hawaiian shirt
@lighhtningking I disagree, because i think Sammy saved VH. Who else could have replaced Dave then? No one made more sense than Sammy, who kicked ass in Montrose, solo, and still today with Chickenfoot!
Ive been listening to music and scrutinizing and studying such things my entire life and honestly I can't even put into words how amazing this band is... and they arent even my favorite!
@wchristo100 They will be if you go out and listen to ALL their history of music. You ain't heard nothin' yet. you'll hear. This is just a taste. Cheers.
The 1970s brings back licentious, depraved memories of the glorious days before AIDS, Hep C, Alzheimers, and death in general. My car was a veritable brothel on wheels. Let's bring back those filthy days, dammitt!!!
@GoEagles35 Not impossible, I LOVE them both. I can watch Sammy solo OR Van Halen. I don't understand the war that is going on with this. They both rock!!! Good music is what it is. Peace.
@rd80schild Me too. I discovered VH, or at least really paid attention to them with the 'Fair Warning' album, pretty much MY Van Halen 1. I saw them 'live' twice with Sammy. If i could have saw them with Dave i would have, but i think ppl are crazy to put down the Sammy era, when you can arguably say their biggest hit came - 'Right Now' - in the Sammy era. Both fit perfect. I was devastated when i heard they broke up, but to me, Sammy made sense, to be the one to keep the band going.
When this album came out I was cruising in my 1980 turbo Trans Am with the T tops off, with this cassette in the player.Where have all the good times gone? Those were really good times for me!I wasn't married no kids and had babes running our my ears!Love em and leave em just like KISS said!Naw not really.I had some hot ones that wasn't no one night stands.Dawg I miss those days.HUM,there was Lisa,Amy,Renee,Tonya,Terri,Linda,Darlene...oh my I"m sorry I was back in the 80's baby!

Where have all the good times gone, i mean 1984?

Both were good but I personally liked Diamond Dave's personality and showmanship better.

Why do all Van Halen fans feel the need to pick a side? Is it really that impossible to like both Dave and Sammy? I know I do. Sue me. :)

@GoEagles35 Totally.

@GoEagles35 While I do like both eras, I personally feel that the Roth era made the best albums.

@H057IL3 VH III is a very under-rated album. :) If you are really are a Gary fan, pick up his latest Hurtsmile album. It rocks!

@GoEagles35 Hurtsmile is okay, but Extreme and Van Halen are better :)
High five!

@GoEagles35 I liked them both apart, and then still the same together. Good music.
