They are breaking the Antarctic Treaty System which requires environmental impact studies before activities are allowed in antarctic waters. They are illegally refueling at sea with this study. I am not a law expert but I have also heard they could be taken to court over 4 more breaches of the law...but even breaking one law is still breaking the law right!

Most nations only claim 2 to 12 and sometimes for resources 200 miles off their coast line. I hardly think Australia is claiming waters well beyond 700 miles off their coast line. Research is being carried out without killing whales, but rarely do scientists go into the Antarctic. However there are ships on the way now.
Japans research is nix. They haven't really tried to hide the fact they are only hunting whales for food.
There is a ban and Japan is signatory to it. It specifically requires members not to hunt whales in the UN/IWC recognized whale sanctuary.
No other countries hunt as many whales as Japan and none of them outside their own waters.

Unable to locate in the Antarctic Treaty System a prohibition against whaling, can you locate it? What part of CITES is Japan in violation of? Your accusation is too sweeping. As for violating Australia's Antarctic Territory, I have to ask: why is not the Australian Navy enforcing their sovereignty over their territory? When did Australia take Japan to the World Court for this infraction?

OK, well, I have most of the documents on my computer, but I'm sure you can find the Antarctic Treaty online, the Japanese Govt. is violating Article IX part a, & f in this treaty,
As to why the Aust. navy is not enforcing anything is because mostly the aust. govt. are just jackasses and really don't care, but the pple do, their gov/.t shows concern sometimes, but never holds onto anything, plus millitary activities are against the treaty in antartica (article I) which kinda sucks

Sorry, not good enough. If Japan was breaking any laws the IWC or Sea Shepherd would have taken them to the International Court, and thus far that has not happened. Hence no laws have been violated. Also I do not care how you rate the Australian government, as any government would protect their territorial integrity if it was being violated.

If Japan is using loopholes then guess what? It is legal, not illegal as you claimed earlier. You then use proof of Japan's illegal activity by the fact their ship was refused in Australian ports for repairs. First I do not recall Japan making such a request. Second, if the Australians would have allowed Japan's whaling ship to enter an Australian port, the Australians would then have been able to arrest them for breaking their laws.

But it did not happen, because no Australian laws were broken by the Japanese. You claim Sea Shepherd is a non-profit, thus no authority to take Japan to court. Then how come Sea Shepherd claims they have the authority to enforce a law they claim Japan is breaking? Also once again why does not Australia take Japan to court? Is Australia a non-profit also?

are you listening to anything I'm saying... the aus govt is currently considering with NZ taking the japs to court, the SS cannot do this, they have no funds for this at all to do such an action, anyone can enforce the law., they have the authority to hold to this because this is what their money goes for, not taking pple to court, SS does not have a tenth of the money to take a govt to internation court, thats why theyare asking NZ and AUST to do it

you need to check your facts before you make claims, Japan DID MAKE A REQUEST to dock in aust. ports for repairs several weeks ago when they damaged one of their propellors in the south seas, they were obviously refused

whn d japs fuckd up their ship & needed repairs, they couldnt dock n Aust or NZ, so the moved northward 2 indonesia 2 get repairs, the officials n Ind. simply needed 2 c evidence of Japan's illegal whling activities & evidence that Aust will not allow Jap vessels to enter Aust ports for fuel or repair, they got d evidence, & got video evidence of hidden equipment on japans ships, and the japs are kicked out of IND. ports, d japs limp away w/ their tail between their legs& yes they do deserve it

the same could be said about sea shepherd...if they were breaking the law why arent they being charged with any offences?...because they are acting under the un charter for nature. Whalers in Antarctica are at least breaking the Antarctic treaty if not more laws. They are using sub-antarctic vessels and refueling at sea without an environmental impact assessment which is required by international law in antarctic territory.

the SS is currently offering NZ or AUST. 2 take the japs govt 2 international court, as they r both not fond of the SS's actions, the SS say if they will take them 2 international court.. they will back off on their aggressive tatics, the SS is sure the jap govt. will refuse to appear to such a court decision, prob not, but maybe, and if they do refuse,
the SS will have more room to do more aggressive tacktics to stop the jap govt... this is not the jap pple doing this, strictly their govt

Greenpeace just sits there and watches while the Japanese does their whaling operation. Greenpeace doesn't attempt to board, throw stink bombs, or use prop foulers on the japanesse boat. Japan doesn't stop whaling once greenpeace there, Greenpease doesn't scare the whalers but the SS does.

Why do you have such a problem with the Sea Shepard and Crew? They have the right do do what they are doing, as you have the right to Freedom of Speech in your many (informative) posts. They are doing what the Australian Government should be doing. There is a ban on whaling in this particular area. The Australian Government claims this to be considered a Protected Whale Sanctuary. Protected, by Who? It sure isn't the Australian Government!!!!!

Thank you for your comment. The Japanese whalers are hunting approximately 700 miles off the Australian coast line. Most nations only claim 2 to 12 and sometimes for resources 200 miles off their coast line. I hardly think Australia is claiming waters well beyond 700 miles off their coast line. Since the pander bears are in China, yes hunting them in China would be a violation of Chinas sovereignty.

Canadian's can say that the Sea Sheppards were in Canadian water though this has yet to be verified. Japan has no rights to arrest them as they aren't in japan's water. Do some research Sea Sheppard has always had a heli for the past 3 or 4 seasons. 2 years ago they built the Heli-pad on the Steve Erwin in 2/3days. This year they added a hanger to protect the heli from the elements. The heli is used to go out past the range of radar to spot the Japanese ships to guide the SS to the fleet
