I suggest using pva glue, put sand into the craters for a more realistic look, as if the rock that created the crater had been shot at and weathered down over the years. Unless it was made from an artillery shell or some other special weapon. It still would have eventually collected sediments in it.
@abc114able Interesting point. I think you could finish them in a variety of ways as the 40k universe has a crazy assortment of weapons/ordinances. I think aging them a bit as you describe would be a great way to set them apart from the traditional finished look for these pieces.
@Terranscapes I suppose you could cut of a skull or two from some figures' armor and that could put a nice look to it as if it was artillery and it had hit its mark. For the bullets, I believe that you could use some rice that's been cut in half, maybe?
When I unpacked them I was not impressed either. Trimming the flash off them is a bit of a challenge as well. Once I painted them and was putting on the final touches however, they really began to 'shine' and in the end I think they look really good if you give them the right touch with the brush.

It's really the first time that I see those craters look good on a table (before this video I thought that those pieces were absolute crap)
Thank you for making me change my mind ^^
