The pain is unbelieveable. Give your partner (or parent) the power to make your decisions (if you are in too much pain to talk) but plan it in advance.
I'm a man, so there is no way I can speak to how women experience the pain of child birth.
However, I can tell you, from having been directly present/supportive to both my wife's deliveries in the tub, as well as being present for the deliveries of several friends babies (ALL without pain intervention), that a calm relaxed, and thoughtful approach free from fear and stress will vastly reduce the physical pain of child birth.

What I can't stand about the "modern medical model" for child birth delivery is how the whole process is so sterile and oriented for ease of the doctors rather than the mother. My wife and I delivered both our children in a birthing center, and I can tell you that the process is much more gentle and mother / child oriented than the process shown here.

The baby isn't dead. It sometimes takes a little encouragement for them to take the first breaths. This is why the nurse was rubbing/tapping on its foot. Suctioning and cleaning them, generally gets them started as well. =]

This is not how birth should be! Poor woman. This position CLOSES the birth canal about 30% and requires the woman to push the baby UP! Her legs should not be above her head! If left alone almost all women chose a squatting or similar position to deliver. There is a reason for this! No wonder she tore. This is an example of doctors putting their own comfort over that of the patient.
The placenta is a special organ that grows just for the support of the baby, and it's only present in the woman's uterus during the time she's pregnant. It's not a permanent organ, you grow a new one each time you have a baby. After the birth, the mom bleeds for a week or two, kind of like a period, but depending on whether or not she's breastfeeding, she can have a nice break of sometimes even up to a year from her period. :-D
I have one little girl and am 5 months pregnant with my second and am now thankful for the fact that i have to have c-sections. Surely thats not a normal amount of blood to lose, is it?
if your glad you have to have c-sctions cause you dont lose as much as you would in a vginal birth thats not true. my cousin had a c-section and lost so much blood she had to be put in the recovery room for 2 weeks.
Umm.... that wasn't gross, and personally, I think the people who are saying "OMFG! THAT IS SOOOO ICKY! I'M NEVER HAVING BABYS!" had horrible sex ed classes. Giving birth is not icky. It's the most natural thing in the world. And fears about "what it's going to do to your cooch" is not a valid reason to have a C-section (which scares me a hell of a lot more than a vaginal birth).

This is not how birth should be! Poor woman. This position CLOSES the birth canal about 30% and requires the woman to push the baby UP! Her legs should not be above her head! If left alone almost all women chose a squatting or similar position to deliver. There is a reason for this! No wonder she tore. This is an example of doctors putting their own comfort over that of the patient.

The placenta is a special organ that grows just for the support of the baby, and it's only present in the woman's uterus during the time she's pregnant. It's not a permanent organ, you grow a new one each time you have a baby. After the birth, the mom bleeds for a week or two, kind of like a period, but depending on whether or not she's breastfeeding, she can have a nice break of sometimes even up to a year from her period. :-D

I have one little girl and am 5 months pregnant with my second and am now thankful for the fact that i have to have c-sections. Surely thats not a normal amount of blood to lose, is it?

if your glad you have to have c-sctions cause you dont lose as much as you would in a vginal birth thats not true. my cousin had a c-section and lost so much blood she had to be put in the recovery room for 2 weeks.

Umm.... that wasn't gross, and personally, I think the people who are saying "OMFG! THAT IS SOOOO ICKY! I'M NEVER HAVING BABYS!" had horrible sex ed classes. Giving birth is not icky. It's the most natural thing in the world. And fears about "what it's going to do to your cooch" is not a valid reason to have a C-section (which scares me a hell of a lot more than a vaginal birth).
