I understand what you are trying to do (and lifting 150 with one arm is no easy feat) but you are lifting way too damn heavy to incorporate the actual fundamental principals of a cheat curl. Props to you for getting that much weight up without hurting yourself, but the results you desire would be better obtained with a lower weight that your bicep muscle can still have SOME control over. Usually going heavy is to help with the negative concentration of the curl which is totally lacking here.
@dreamside13 As this video is over 3 years old.I usually do not go this crazy often. Bt used here and there have found it beneficial in increasing strength, power and explosiveness. These are more my goals over just targeting the biceps for growth. I have vids up and more recent ones of me setting American/World records in curls in competition which are judged and stricter then this. So in that regard I have been able to achive resu I have desired. Hope that somewhat helps to explain my goal.
@RANarine Because I train mainly for strength, major overload like this at times I have found to help me. It has helped me achive American/World records in my divisions in competition which I have vids of.. I don't go this crazy often though, but have found it usefull now and then and is a fun change for me as well. Also, you can get injured doing just about any lift really..
@RANarine To gain strength explosivess, and get the feel for heavier weight. This is not something I do all the time but have found it to work great to shock the body into strenth gains used now and then.

An with a clean you usually dive under the weight instead of lean back to get it up..But whatever it looks like it is very difficult to do with nearly your own bodyweight for repetitions at any age let alone 17.

On exercises where you can't do your ridiculous swinging motions (like bench and squats) your lifts are not even remotely impressive. It baffles me why you would adopt such an absurd training style. @JohnGolbunny Yes, I have seen people that train similar. And you can't say my lifts aren't that impressive. I don't specialize in bech or squats so they are not amazing but I still think they are fairly good for my size. I have done 300 raw at around 165 paused before on bench and recently did 405 for 4 front squats a bit above parallel so I do't think thats too horrible. And I have deadlifted 550 raw before as well. I wouldn't say you can use much momentum on a deadlift of all things..

You can cheat just as much or even more on the bench press. And I can probably do more then 300 now Im just giving you what I did in the past.. Also, in the low 300's at 165-170 bdw is more then average. Although not incredible but still better then many my weight and age can do. And swinging or jerking this kind of weight is not easy

Plus grip ma have a small thing to do with it but mines not weak neither is Pauls. So you really can't use that. Your also basing an opinion of a video I made almost 3 YEARS AGO!!!!

@lacou666 Honesty, its been over a year since Ive done this excersise near this heavy.. I use it here and there for fun and overload andhave actualy found it useful to increase my strength. But also, you gotta think that many other excersises have a risk of their own as well..
yo man if ur doing this for overload, you need to have a spotter and used a locked in motion for instance smith machine so you are actually putting tension on the muscle so it has a chance to overload and fail, swinging does nothing other than destroying your back, your 17 and you weight 166, what your body needs is quality repetitions from week to week, trust me, you need to train as hard as you can but it has to be quality training, keep up the good work consistency is key!

If strength is the main goal, super strit form isn't always gonna be the answer..

But I just havent done it in meets. in NASA there is a division called "powersports" which is curl, bench, and deadlift for total. Second, this type of training now and then has actually helped me get the feel for heavier weights to increase strength although I dont do it that much... I curl in competition and have set World records which I have other vids of so yes it has done good for me FYI

@mvax Well in a true clean, I would not be bring my arm up in a curl like motion and supinating at the top. Rather I would pull it up and try to squat under it instead of leaning back. I also wou ld start it at the center of my body.. It might kinda look like a clean but regardless NOT easy when its almost your bodyweight..

But I use this every now and then for super overload on my muscles to help increase my strength. I compete in the NASA powerlifting fed in the powersports division which consists of curl, bench, and deadlift for total. Since the curl is one of the events these are some of my techniques. I have the best coefficient curl and world records.

i don't know why people would hit the thumbs down button on this the guy weighed only 16 lbs. more than the dumbbell and he got the 'bell into a supinated position with wrist turned in, so people get so envious when they see people alternate curl 70 + lb. for sets dumbbells because they can't do it themselves!

@MrTre516 it is a lot of lower body involvement but still it counts as a cheat curl in most dumbbell curling contests and as a "clean rep" in others where you are allowed 2 clean reps per arm, powabuilda under those rules can do 150 x 2, i haven't even done one rep with 150 yet
@RussianLion100 might appear that way. But I wouldn't say Im squatting way under it and catching it like a real clean. Even if it resembels taht somewhat still VERY difficult to do with that much weight especially that NEAR your bodyweight!

If you watch sm of my other videos, you will see I have set American/World Records in competition for curls so What I have done has worked well for me... If strength is the main goal, super strit form isn't always gonna be the answer..

@weiderlifter Well Ive done a good share of squatting believe me and have nothing against it! But I just havent done it in meets. in NASA there is a division called "powersports" which is curl, bench, and deadlift for total. So this kinda stuff has allowed me to get the feel for heavier weights for curls in meets which have rules and are much strcter. I have vids of the meet curls, as well as bench and deadift.

@rctriplefresh5 yeah well why don't the WSM competitiors video document it on youtube,also I am not on steroids like them and all of the their heavy dbell lifts are strictly cleaning and pushing movements not reverse cleans starting with the dumbbell at their sides AKA dumbbell cheat curls, in fact i e-mailed Travis Ortmayer and he said the most he's ever cheat alternate curled is 100's 5 a side, most WSM do only heavy barbell curls they don't want to risk crewing their midbacks up with dbells

Second, this type of training now and then has actually helped me get the feel for heavier weights to increase strength although I dont do it that much... I curl in competition and have set World records which I have other vids of so yes it has done good for me FYI

@AndyHarglesis I know, but I have done 110 on my right arm pretty near strictly and 75s are part of my warm up if that.. If someone is strong enough to sling up 150's they should be fine curling 75 strictly. Not trying to brag just stating the facts..

My max curl is 160lbs strict with both arms. Although I'm only 13, you are likely older so you have an advantage or likelihood of advantage.

But I cant make it public because Im not allowed to film at my the gym I filmed at and cant put anything up from there publicly. But if you added me I might be able to make you able to see it. as far as 2 arm curls I have one of an easy 170 for 2 warmup that was strict although it was filmed at a bad angle... Also a 181 curl near strict in comp an easy 190 in the gym.

@mvax Well in a true clean, I would not be bring my arm up in a curl like motion and supinating at the top. Rather I would pull it up and try to squat under it instead of leaning back. I also wou ld start it at the center of my body.. It might kinda look like a clean but regardless NOT easy when its almost your bodyweight..

(I see you have stated your point prior, but regardless) Your not activating any bicep. @WorkoutModerator I still a using some bicep regardless from brining my arm up and supinating at the top in a curl like motion even though I am swinging alot. But I use this every now and then for super overload on my muscles to help increase my strength. I compete in the NASA powerlifting fed in the powersports division which consists of curl, bench, and deadlift for total. Since the curl is one of the events these are some of my techniques. I have the best coefficient curl and world records.

i don't know why people would hit the thumbs down button on this the guy weighed only 16 lbs. more than the dumbbell and he got the 'bell into a supinated position with wrist turned in, so people get so envious when they see people alternate curl 70 + lb. for sets dumbbells because they can't do it themselves!

@MrTre516 Well since when is there a rules on cheat curls? I am cheating to get the weight up even if it means alot of cheat. I don't even do these that much, but once in a while I have found them great for overload and strength gains. They also are not very easy as they may look try it for yourself and see with this weight let alone nearly your own bodyweight!

@MrTre516 it is a lot of lower body involvement but still it counts as a cheat curl in most dumbbell curling contests and as a "clean rep" in others where you are allowed 2 clean reps per arm, powabuilda under those rules can do 150 x 2, i haven't even done one rep with 150 yet
