@thehall92 Yep, definitely....most of them do or they may not recognize their names just respond to the person?? who knows... and some just choose to ignore you :)
i loved how some of the cats were showing off their food, and strutting around with it hanging out of their mouths. so damn cute. it doesn't matter if cats are wild or domestic, they still have some of that same hilarious mannerisms.
@ayesha080 First and foremost it's cruel and unnecessary, also feeding 130 cats live prey everyday would require a huge amount of space for the prey and time to hand it out. Then there's always the risk that the big cat could get injured (beak or claw in their eye etc..) We do feed live prey to our rehab bobcats that will be released back into the wild so they need to learn how to hunt :)
Boy that was extremely funny. It was like a scene in hangover... what was it again... I'll find it at freemoviebon anza [.] [com] and get back to you.

Those Tigers are gorgeous cats, Cameron and Joesph are hug Lions. They are so beautiful with their big full manes, the other cats are beautiful to. I would love to see Big Cat Rescue, where do I get the info on the place.
All big cats are solitary in the wild except the lion, so they will leave signals for other cats to mark their territory, spray, scratch marks, feces etc... They really don't want to come in contact with other cats. But desperate times can mean entering the territory of other cats, which may result in confrontations.
Joseph's pride as a male lion/male tiger + female lion/female tiger, they have always lived together and must of been raised together from a young age. But if you were to introduce a mature lion with a mature tiger they would definitely fight, depends on the cat's personality as to who would be in charge???
We don't really hide them, just place them so it's a different experience for them instead of being fed in the same place day after day :) good fun for them.
Animals eat bones, just as they would in the wild. Bones which have been cooked are what's dangerous to eat, because they are dried out and can splinter, tearing a throat or stomach, or anything in between.
Some people feed raw bones to their dogs in a specially prepared diet called BARF - which stands for Bones and Raw Food or Biologically Appropriate Raw Food. Google it!
Wow the power of the dominant male lions is incredible! That tiger joseph scared off was huge also. Are the lions always so protective of their food like cameron?
BTW is the guy in the begining with the turkeys from the show on animal planet called 'Lion Feeding frenzy"? Cuz i think i saw him on that show just a while ago.
Well our enclosures are designed to withstand up to category 4 storms, they're made up of cylinders and these act like trampolines if a tree were to fall on them. They are also rooted top and bottom by trees etc... growing through them so are very solid and flexible. All the cats have steel reinforced concrete dens to stay safe. If there was a category 5 hurricane on the way and we decided to evacuate BCR, the "lock-out" where we feed our cats have bottoms on.
So this is easy for us, it's a good place for the cats where they get fed, we can put food on their tray slide the door down behind them and detach the cage without sedating our cats which is something you don't want to do if you don't have to :)
I knew there were safety features there, but I didn't know all that. It's interesting. Thank you for letting us know, and now perhaps there should be a video about it sometime!
The large size of the liger is due to "genomic imprinting" - the unequal expression of genes depending on parent of origin i.e. whether certain growth genes are inherited from the male or the female which results in growth dysplasia.
We know they'd love it! But I know the animals we are feeding to them wouldn't! Never going to happen we all care about animal welfare staff and volunteers and feeding out live prey to big cats is not something we would ever do. sorry :(
Yeah we get that a lot, but it's just not a good thing to do, the cats could just end up "playing" with their food for a long time before finally killing the animal and there's also the risk that the cats could get injured by beak/claw of their dinner! The cougar can't roar but they do make a bunch of other different noises! I think that was actually Cameron our other male lion protecting his turkey, and they are servals in the video not clouded leopards, we no longer have them at the sanctuary.
We don't get to name many cats they all keep the names they come with, except for any bobcats we rehab and release back into the wild and the three cougars we rescued from Idaho, we got to name those cats :) As for telling them apart, it's just a matter of time, you just get to know the look of their face etc...
We have rescued cats from all different background, fur farms, retired circus cats, breeding facilities that have been shut down, pet trade, backyard breeders and a lioness that was seized in a drug raid! It's a crazy situation and something we are trying to fix, thanks for watching!
Some people got a cute little WILD animal without concern for their future. As the animal grew BIGGER, with danger instints taking over, they were abused with confinement; mistreated with beatings; and butchered with declawings and teeth removals. All to TRY to control them or make them manageable. BCR is just one of many places NECESSARY because some humans were selfish and had to have themself a wild animal at any cost, except they didn't have the money to take care of them properly!
I've never seen a white serval before...wow that's cool. Is this a melanistic thing like when leopards and jaguars are born black or is it due to inbreeding?
No melanism is what turns animals black, we have two white servals at the sanctuary their coloring is caused by a double recessive gene, from their parents, they aren't albino as they have blue eyes and some golden spots etc...
No, where we rescued them from they were living together and most probably were raised together from a young age so don't know any better. Of course if we tried to introduce two mature tigers/lions they would fight.
Great video. I love the way you end it! What was the light colored with the tufts on the ear tips? I know lynx have those, but it wasn't the right color, or usual color. Was that the sandcat? If not, which one was the sand cat. I Alex a snow leopard - or what? Also, it was so cute the way Baby knew her name, but the snarl when she got the food wasn't so cute..not the sound a pet would make! Snorkel is so large the turkey looked like a chicken . Thanks for sharing!
Thanks, the light colored cat was a caracal (african small cat) no sand cats in this podcast, alex is a very large bobcat! Baby is actually Artemis the cougar she is the smaller than her 2 brothers so we call her baby sometimes, but snorkel is a very big tiger!
I have a question, do you get paid for this? or is this a volunteer type of thing? If you do, about how much do you make? (sorry if this is personal or anything)
We have half a dozen staff members at the sanctuary, then over one hundred volunteers, that really help us keep the place going! The staff members do get paid, but it's not that much, but we have job satisfaction!
I suppose some volunteers might be considering jobs in animal science or zoology, and this is adding to their education. It takes a special person to dedicate their life to animals where they will surely witness abuse, suffering and death. With all that is known, their is still much of the science of animals yet to be discovered. Bless you all. It's wonderful and I'm sure it fills your heart to be part of it.
Hi, nope Tonga isn't albino, he as blue/green eyes and some golden/dark spots on his body, the white color is caused by a double recessive gene similar to the white tiger!
I came to Big Cat Rescue for the first time in March 2008. As our tour began we came to the cat-a-tat that holds Shere Kahn and China Doll, a random bird (game hen maybe?) flew above and into the cat-a-tat and China Doll was on it in a second, she killed it right away and then ate it. I was able to get a picture, just another reason these guys should not be anyone's pet. I love the Big Cat Rescue, the next tour I would like to do is the feeding tour!! Thanks for all you do!
oooh, bad move for the bird, it happens I guess! The feeding tour is cool, because you're guaranteed to see the cats up close and chomping through bones! You also see some species that you don't really get to see on the regular tour like the sandcat!
oooh, bad move for the bird, it happens I guess! The feeding tour is cool, because you're guaranteed to see the cats up close and chomping through bones! You also see some species that you don't really get to see on the regular tour like the sandcat!
Nope, as you can see we do feed them whole prey though we do this once a week rats for the small guys and rabbits for the larger cats all of which we buy form a supplier frozen. The only exception to this rule is Hope the rehab bobcat we are currently feeding her live rats so she can learn how to hunt ready for her release back into the wild!
That was simba, she is a siberian tiger, Joseph the male lion likes to be in charge of the pride and the turkeys! Simba got a turkey at the other end of the enclosure!
Yeah, Harley Davidson has a copyright on their sound of their engines, but I don't think they'll come after Joseph for sounding like 'a broke harley!'
Are you going to release the cats into the wild? Or are their hunting skills not so good so you don't want anything to happen to them? But anyways i think you do a great job with the cats!!
The ONLY cats BigCatRescue releases back into the wild are those they have under special circumstances - like the Bobcat which was injured and spent time there to rehabilitate. Those particular cats have VERY limited contact with people, and are fed live mice so they can be returned to their natural habitat without an unnatural imprint from humans.
Cameron has the most incredible mane I've ever seen on a lion before!

Do the animals ever receive live prey?
breedcancer2006 2 years ago
Nope, as you can see we do feed them whole prey though we do this once a week rats for the small guys and rabbits for the larger cats all of which we buy form a supplier frozen. The only exception to this rule is Hope the rehab bobcat we are currently feeding her live rats so she can learn how to hunt ready for her release back into the wild!

lol feed them kebab =)

what kind of tiger was it that ran away from the angry lion?
TheGrimAvenger 2 years ago
That was simba, she is a siberian tiger, Joseph the male lion likes to be in charge of the pride and the turkeys! Simba got a turkey at the other end of the enclosure!

camerosn sounds like a motor boat when he growls!

Holy crap! Joseph sounds like a broke harley! L0L
phunkaddikt 2 years ago
I've not heard that one before, but you're right and he's scary up close and personal!
BigCatRescue 2 years ago
Yeah, Harley Davidson has a copyright on their sound of their engines, but I don't think they'll come after Joseph for sounding like 'a broke harley!'

And that's why you shouldn't stick fingers in their territory.
jelly17000 2 years ago
Exactly well said!
BigCatRescue 2 years ago
Heh, big kitties make big bones go *crunch crunch*.
jelly17000 2 years ago
Are you going to release the cats into the wild? Or are their hunting skills not so good so you don't want anything to happen to them? But anyways i think you do a great job with the cats!!
19xxDenisexx98 2 years ago
The ONLY cats BigCatRescue releases back into the wild are those they have under special circumstances - like the Bobcat which was injured and spent time there to rehabilitate. Those particular cats have VERY limited contact with people, and are fed live mice so they can be returned to their natural habitat without an unnatural imprint from humans.

darikai219 2 years ago

that lion owned that tiger, lol
xenugears 3 years ago
No, cats require a really high protein diet, dogs can thrive on a vegatarian diet, but it's not suitable for cats to have a vegan diet.
BigCatRescue 3 years ago
the lion stole the turkey from the tiger.
how come only one turkey was given to two big cats?
kwfine 3 years ago
They all got a turkey each, we threw more in on the other end of the enclosure away form Joseph!
BigCatRescue 3 years ago
Hi BigCatRescue,
