Why is everyone talking about emo shit? Pop is the true enemy. The problem isn't emo got too emo, its pop got into emo. Can't we all just agree, as ATDI fans, we all just want to punch Katey Perry in the tit? Please no more fighting, brothers.
I dont think theres a boombox in the world that can play this song as loud as i want to hear it lol but atd-i isnt emo. Its awesome! and yes people awesome is a music genre to me. suck it. ATD-I kicks ass and so do the people that like them.
@RossTheBoss1985 This band changed my entire spectrum of music appreciation. I threw away some albums because I discovered them at a small live show in a dying record shop in 1997.
yea i used to dig these guys' music back in High School when they were still from El Paso, Tx. Now they're just another LA band. Chuco Town gave em a certain flavor or feeling to their music, haha. It ain't LA but their is plenty of shit goin around here to be influenced by or write about. anyway ATDI is the shit, fuck the rest of them so called emos
didnt "screamo" (yet another stupid subgenre) evolved from "emo" or at least proto emo like rites of spring, embrace, fugazi and the whole "DC 85" scene thing? i thought that then west coast bands like heroin did what became screamo in like late 80s early 90s based off of that stuff? but of course. arguing about subgenres and where they develop from comes across as useless and pretentious to me, that is if you cant appreciate a band as its own entity. ATDI is basically theyre own genre to me.
I don't find anything wrong with categorizing a band into a genre. The human mind works by categorizing. When you try to relay the sound of a band to someone, genres becoming convenient. But obsessing over specific-sub-sub-subgenres is silly. A band name is the ultimate subgenre, for when you hear the words "At the Drive-In," you know the exact sound being discussed, as opposed to generic terms like "post-hardcore."
Enough rambling from me... the production on this album is better than R.O.C.'s
My friend and I walk by Fonda San Miguel's and as we approach a crowd 100 yards off I say "lost boys" he inquires "like breathing blood through the lungs of a soft child?" in other words "I love breathing, just filling my lungs with fresh air" and as we pass them by he asks me if I know what "crop dusting" is, "letting a fart out as you pass by a rude crowd". Lost Boys!
my fav atdi song especially when you are listening to the album all the way through they get you nice and depressed with the two songs before then when this song starts a wave of happiness always comes over me
Why does it always come down to the "There is no such thing as genre"/"Nah dude this is psychobilly techno-avant garde-technical-post-post-post-harcore-medio-lo-hi-blah-core-emo-contemporary-pop/rock-jazz-swing-latin funky town" crap?
If anyone respected Cedric or their favorite bands they would not talk about the genre. Of course I know you all respect him and love him, that's why you're here and we're all together :).
But yeah, its a powerful song and will remain it as long as I hear it.
Music as unique as the sound of ATDI simply cannot be put into a genre. It works against that very idea, its free and transends through many different genres in seconds. The same could be said with TMV, although many would say that they are true "Experimental Jazz-rock Fusion"
And in all honesty, i don't care what genre they are, a good bands a good band and this is my Favourite Band.
Back when it definitely wasn't cool to be emo. No faggot, slicked up black hair on these guys. No whining, what you hear is called singing. Back when lyrics were still done right, delicious and cryptic. nothing like "cut my wrists and black my eyeeesss I'm a faggot with no liiiife" like you hear from the pussies making music nowadays. Seems like nowadays no one takes you seriously unless you shove the message down their undeservings throats.
i honestly think the entire wave of emo-hatred would have been avoided if they hadn't called it 'emo'. calling it emo makes you understand it entirely in relation to the concept of 'male emotion' which is considered a bad thing by every moron in denial about their own nature.
@eamnr14 haha....isnt that a funny comment!Back in my day Emo evolved from screamo! Its sad when thats all people know of MTV coined genres....This si def. post hardcore! But still...you cant classify at the drive in as anything...You are right in calling out that poser!
@ybtt justin pearson and friends had greasy black hair with sick hair and white belts brah back in the day, brah no need to hate on aesthetics and usurp synapse wrote songs about suicide and saetia wrote lots of songs about broken hearts and bad relationships, so did rites of spring , have you heard don martin three? they are very whiny, theres also cnadyland carcrash they have as ong titled the pain will double if you leave me now, emo has had those characteristics since forever, look it up.
From back in the day when emo was something pure that everyone understood and not some washed up fad, when people actually screamed by screaming and not doing the pussy shit they do now.
Music is music, don't judge an entire genre of music (by that i mean anything with modern-day screaming). Music and ignorance don't mix, hope your ashamed, fuck you.
this is one of the greatest love songs ever made. it passionately portrays the bittersweet realities found in love and companionship. not only are the lyrics profound, angsty and honest, the musical compisition is top notch and pays ode to emo's rich history. if i had to pick an anthem for the happiest, most meaningful times in my life, this song would be it.
I'm glad you posted that comment. ATDI always had insanely cryptic lyrics, but this one song really puzzled me. When I read your interpretation, I looked over the lyrics and realized that it made sense; this song could definitely be about a relationship.
This is ATDI's most underrated song, IMO, and I would die to see a live show of this somewhere. I can already see Cedric jumping around like crazy, throwing all of his emotions into his singing

A genre is decided by a group of attributes covered by a collection of compositions by an artist, or band.
Unless there are no attributes, you cannot say a band t"ranscends genre" and Tmv are just doing to metal what Muse did to Indie.
ATDI aren't all that orignal, I've heard many bands with a similar sound, before and after they existed.
Although, ATDI are a great band, no doubt there.

of course ATDI were emo.
Acrobatic Tenement is one of the best emocore albums I've ever heard.
it's just the meaning of the word 'emo' became bastardized by modern pop-culture. Fuck that.
ATDI forever, they were the BEST.

lol if you want emo
listen to 'Pray for Plagues' by 'Bring Me The Horizon'
ParkwayDrive123987 2 years ago
Bring Me the Horizon are not emo at all.
they are best described as 'metalcore' which is nothing at all like 'emocore', not even close.
Real Emocore was in the 80s and early 90s.
See Sunny Day Real Estate, Hot Water Music, Jawbreaker for real emo.
AnarchyBegins 2 years ago
from wikipedia:
"They play a style of music that fuses death metal and metalcore, known as deathcore"
not emo-core in any sort of way, I'm afraid :P
ATDI is true emocore.
