Your mattress probably has a sheet of memory foam below plus 2-3 sheet of firmer, better material on top.

One thing memory foam is good for is

when someone has a giant ass or boobs and the bump makes him/her uncomfortable then the memory foam can help because when it sinks it takes down half the ass and makes the body straighter :)

Personally I prefer a firm but soft to the touch mattess. The old polyurethane I was talking about is no longer available. Last time I bought one was around 1995.

I have a tempur-pedic mattress and I think it's great. Whoever posted the thoughts about gases is not true of the tempur-pedic mattress. It gives great body support but they are very expensive. I have the rhapsody model and it's around $3,000.00. I don't sink into this mattress like quick sand either. It molds to your body based on the temperature of your body and does what it's suppose to do.

on topic: My friend bought one of thems and I have not heard any complaints. It is caveat emptor, however, as cheaper mattresses are mostly made overseas and have larger, less dense foam cells which can collapse and lose their "memory" before long.

I guess the memory foam mattress didn't work from costco because you are suppose to toss and turn alot less. Also I heard bad things about it. They are as flat as a panckake in less then a week. Also someone told me they get old discountinued merchandise. you get what you pay for.
