Come on now people. Just because you can't get into their newer stuff doesn't mean it isn't any good. I would have to say the change can be attributed to their continuing evolvement as musicians as well as varying interests over time. I like to refer to it as the In Through The Outdoor syndrome. As a youngster I was very disappointed by Zeppelins last release due to the fact that it just wasn't Zeppelin enough. Some 30 years later, I see it as probably their finest moment.
seriously, this album was an OBSESSION with me. i listened to it non-stop all the way through every morning for all of freshman year. insanely great album. changed my life. long live U2!
It's nice to look back at when U2 was good. They started repeating themselves just about the time Bono was lauding the Pixies...and I never looked back.
I have been a fan since way back in 1980. I love all of their songs, especially the more obscure ones. They have changed with the times, and the changes have been good ones. They still crank out great stuff, in my opinion!

Fun Fact about this album: "Two hearts beat as one" is measured in at 5 minutes on the album but is only 4 minutes long. Look at the back of the CD case.
@1dgkonig - I think that was due to the fact how early a pressing you got - there were like 3 versions of this tune ( some of the early remixes before they werecalled that ) - htis album/cd is unreal - my opinion is that this was key to there success - it was the 2nd tier songs that held our breathe till he next rec came out - while radio burnt out the hits
Well, I actually think they didn't evolve in a positive way. The last albums are quite mainstream, and non-interesting in comparison to their early albums like the undoubtly best album The Unforgettable Fire.
I love this song. I love the whole War album. But they had to change course in music, or else they'll be irrelevant. A reason why they are still successful and still the biggest band out there.
I wish they'd write more music like this one and like the old stuff they did. But they always have to evolve to stay relevant. They say that they look across to the Killers, Kings of Leon .. etc. They're trying to stay alive. And good job with that!
@Apoptosis12 YEP!!! Simply brilliant!! First song I ever heard by U2 in '83,,,borrowed the LP from my local library and...WAS HOOKED!! Have been ever since, even though I miss those early years!!!!
Dude, I am one lucky sons 'a bitch: I saw the U2 War tour in the early 80's!!! When they played this song, Bono carried a white flag into the crowd. Pure energy and mostly U2 is significant.
Haha...Um, unfortunately, Europeans DO eat McDonalds-that's why McDonald's has stores there! Lets try to play nice though, ok? Especially when your screenname is...AN AMERICAN!
