Now I forget but why do they add a diesel to the consist when a steam locomotive is leading? Backup?

@LNERA3 I think in this case it was backup as the tour was on the very busy East Coast Main Line. Cheers, Jeff.

Thanks for your comment. I was hoping it would stop at Newcastle for a while but, it just did a very quick stop for a crew change at the end of the platform and it was off again.
