The Yellow Magic Orchestra of the 80s was truly a unique yet brilliant band. These guys were using cutting edge technology for that time, the REALLY deserve all the credit for ushering in the "Techno Sound", they started that sound hands down. They should have been given more play here the states.

They are unique sure, but not the groundlayers of this type of music. You shouldn't forget about Kraftwerk, Jean Michel Jarre and Mike Oldfield.

The difference is that very few people listens to Oldfield or Jarre anymore, so I think their music has outdated a bit. But YMO seems to be getting even more popular now, and Sakamoto's music is just everywhere.
