This is man was a genuis all out punk funker and he lived fast and furious and we are blessed to have seen this man do his thing.Fire it up RICK!!!RIP
My favorite song by Rick, he best JAM ever. Also enough with the Prince talk, sure Prince was more successful but he doesn't compare to Rick James, Rick made better music pure and simple, F Prince and the little pony he rode in naked on.
@1980Triumph I think their style of music is too different to truly compare. I think they are both talented artist and to say one is better would not be fair.
It's a hard call to say who was doing what first.Even in the book Rick James says he liked Prince because their style was similar. He never said Prince copyed that. He did say Prince would still some of his stage show when they toured together. Hell...they both copy a little from Sly! There is nothing new under the sun right?
oh it seems "The Time " with Morris Day copied him, very tightly...did ot know that. You notice Rick James never called Morris day and he time out or prince who produced for coping his stuff.....wow go ahead Rick you were a strong artist to let that go!
@talkischeapor not sure he did! He called out Prince many times. Get Rick James book confessions of a superfreak. There is a whole chapter about his beef with Prince.
@ednoroirika didnot know that! but wow he took all his persona..prince and morris day...wow..amazing...! you just never know...who is not original....
I love it!!! Only my man could keep the crowd "fired up" like that after the song ended! I sure do miss Rick, and now Teena. Thank you so much for posting, Asmithsacto.
@mgalore Very, very well said, Mgalore. I was a young kid but I cherish that era just the same. You get that same feeling you described today when you play those classics.
man he was just coming off the "fire it up tour" with prince as his opening act. this 1980 "garden of love" album was considered a flop, i got the cd it's actually pretty good! just a tad bit too many slow jams. summer love in particular is one of my favorites
@MrJonasprayer144 yeah this album had alot of slow jams but this was ricks fourth album and i think he was havin fun with tha writing of these particular ballads!this man was a complete genius of a musician in my book for that time in funk music. this is probrably my second favorite album next to bustin out of L7 from my boi rick!
Hi, Do you happen to have this entire episode? I'm trying to find out the name of a partifcular funk song people were dancing to (was in the barber shop when it was played and didn't get the name of the song)...Not refering to the nick & ashford song or the sos band songs.

Rick James would've been 64 years TODAY...born 2/1/48....its ironic that Don Cornelius ended his life today. RIP to them both. ♫♪♫♪♥
